I have a utiility that users can re-order DataGridView Columns in to their hearts content. I want them to be able to create a named list so they can have multiple Column Patterns to choose from.When I restore though the re-ordered Columns are not where I saved them.

But when I run the code the fill method of the DataAdapter, the columns I created are not filled with data, but automatically generated columns appear. How can the columns I created at design time be filled with data?

The data coms back fine and is presenting in the DGV without any trouble, but I don't like the order the data is being returned in.A long solution might be to modify the SProc to return the data in a different order, but I prefer to handle this on the UI for simplicity. Also, I know the user can re-order but that presents a specific poblem in the way the columns are structured.Is there a way to programmatically change the order at runtime?Here's the ode I have on the UI. I have a datagrid bound to a datatable. The datatable will then be written to an xml file using the built in "WriteXML" function, which is sweet!
What I would like to do is update the table then overrite the existing XMl file when a cell value changes.
The problem is the "CellValueChanged" event is fired before changes are actually committed to the dataset. I do not want to use the "CellValidated" event because it will fire for each row when the file is forst loaded into the dataset and displayed in the datagrid.

I'm working on a simple "sports management" game just to test out whether I could make an actual one some time in the future, but for the life of me I haven't been able to figure out how to save the contents of the datagridview. I want it to be saved in a format that doesn't require the user to have Access or any other program, so that the only thing users need are the .exe and the database file. The issue I am having is that when I click the save button the data doesn't show up in the DataGridView until I close the application and then re open it.

I have a form which has a ListView and buttons to add/edit/delete items from this list. It has a save & a cancel button. On pressing the cancel button, I want to revert all the changes that have been done in the current form. So, while loading the form I keep a copy of the original list like below.
backupMyListView = MyListView
In the cancel button code, I do the opposite.
MyListView = refMyListView
Whats happening is that, the original listview is never restored because everytime MyListView was updated, backupMyListView also was getting updated.
How do I restore the original ListView on pressing the cancel button?
I have an application that has a part of it that modifies several windows services. When the form loads it checks the registry for the current status of the services.
What I would like to do is have it so that the application takes a snapshot of all the defined services when it is first installed and stores the defined settings for each of them. This way the services can be restored at a later time to there original settines. I would also like to make it so that a custom settings file can be created so that this custom configuration could be loaded which contains changes. The result would be the first file made would allow everything to be reset prior to any changes the second file would contain all the setting changes.

View 5 RepliesI have a DataGridView (dgv) on a Windows form (VB.NET) which is bound to a datatable. One of the bound columns is a an ID (Foreign Key) to another datatable. All I want to do is Hide the ID column and populate an unbound column with the Name (ParmName) for the user. I searched the foreign value in the datatable and retrieved the information. I set the Value of the cell in the Datarow. All works well, but does not display. The cell accepts the value...I can even Debug.Print the values to the console. They are there just nothing displaying in DataGridView. Nothing odd about DataGridView. Should be straight forward...

View 7 Replies(I used to use VB6.) I have been developing a database management program which is quite simple so far, with navigational controls, ability to delete record, datagrid, etc.
It uses databound textboxes, but when I modify the content of them it does not update the database. Same applies when I add a new record and fill in the textboxes.
When I select a row from my gridview by clicking on a linkbutton called 'Modify' and is the last cell in the row. Using the code below I can retrieve the key value from within the GridView1_RowCommand sub and move to the modify screen with the correct data.

When I try to access the first row it returns the first row value from the original Gridview and not from the re-ordered one.

I have searched the Internet and this forum for any help on making specialized lists in a Richtextbox instead of the default bulleted list (i.e: Numbered, Upper Roman, Lower Roman, etc.). I know that the default Richtextbox only supports Bulleted lists.
