i am developing an application with vb.net incorporating a Datagridview control. i know that we can make a particular column as checkbox column or text colum or button column. Is there any property/method to make one cell as checkbox cell, other as text cell and another as buttton cell for particular column within the DGVW?

i have a column item-code, inside my database which i have bound to a datagrid view. The item-code comes in this format "A-B-C", i wish only to show the "B" part of the code, i have bound this column to the gridview and now wish to make it show the substring. I tried defaultcellstyle.format but don't know how to get a substring for it.

Well, I am adding a history to it and it allows the user to see the last 50 records searched. They get a grid showing the records. This, thus far, works perfectly What I want to do is this: I want to select a record (A cell) in the column 'Dog and have the text of that cell appear in a textbox. I have a dgv with some checkbox columns. When I load data in the dgv, and I want to check in the cellcontent_click event, whether an another cell value (this is a checkbox cell too) is true or false, I get the error that the operator = is not defined for
dbnull value and for boolean. F.e.:

the value,TrueValue,FalseValue always return as null... in the column I set the TrueValue to "true" and the FalseValue to "false" this is the first time i'm trying to access this control so I must doing something wrong here.

i am developing an application in VB.net implies some datagridview operations. the appl contains one DGVW with columns fixed programatically, one such column is Datagridviewcheckbox column. the datasource for dgvw is bounded by a datatable. the user needs to enter the values in the GUI.
supposing the user enters the 2x2 matrix values, and the user checked the checkbox last cell in the dgvw. The problem - the last cell value is not updating inside. if ii debug through code, the "cell(2,2).value" reurns null value whereas the rest of them returns the value what i entered.
if i clicked the mouse some where in the dgvw after entering the last cell value, then it is returning the exact value as expected.

How can I determine if the user clicked on a cell in the grid, or on the column header? In both cases the CellDoubleClick Handler is called. I want to handle only the first case.
View 2 RepliesI have a DataGridView that based on certain conditions certain columns or rows or cells need to be locked/disabled but the data in the columns or rows or cells needs to bvisibleNow let me define what I mean by lock/disable; the user cannot click on any cell that islocked/disabled, if the use is using the arrow keys the selected cell cannot move to a locked/disabled cell.So this means that setting the cell as read only will not work, the user can still place the cursor on that cell.

I've got this working but there's something I don't understand about it. I have a DataGridView and a listbox. I want to position the listbox to be the same location as the topmost visible cell in the column the mouse is in. The end result will be that a context menu will be provided to show the user the distinct values in that column which is why I want the listbox to show over the column that it's displaying data for, just below the header cell. I'm testing right now using the CellMouseEnter event and the following code is working:

This works fine when the columns unless the user changes the order of the column.
So what I am trying to achieve is to find the value if the cell even if the order of the columns is changed. Is there a way instead of saying column (0, eRow) I can add (ColumnHeaderName = "NameHere", eRow) or something along those lines.

I was thinking to add another column named "Symbol" and based on the "Status" column to format the cells of the "Symbol" column to display an image.
I edited the DGV, and add a new image column.
I created a directory in my solution called "references" where I put all the .bmp files
I don't know how to do this. My first thought was to put an expression in the DataTable Properties, but I didn't manage to make that work. Another way is to format the cells in the "Symbol" column, and again I don't know how to do that. I tried with "Select Case ... Case ... End Select" with no success.
LE: Should I Insert the .bmp files into SQL database (varbinary(MAX)) If yes, how?

View 6 RepliesI have a DataGridView (dgv) on a Windows form (VB.NET) which is bound to a datatable. One of the bound columns is a an ID (Foreign Key) to another datatable. All I want to do is Hide the ID column and populate an unbound column with the Name (ParmName) for the user. I searched the foreign value in the datatable and retrieved the information. I set the Value of the cell in the Datarow. All works well, but does not display. The cell accepts the value...I can even Debug.Print the values to the console. They are there just nothing displaying in DataGridView. Nothing odd about DataGridView. Should be straight forward...
