Excel As A Database Backend To Load Into A Datagridview
Mar 8, 2011
I'm using Excel as a database backend to load into a datagridview.
This is how I connect and bind to the dgv:
vb.net Dim sFileName = filelocation & "checks.xls"
Dim connectionStringTemplate As String = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source={0};Extended Properties=""Excel 12.0 Xml;HDR=Yes;IMEX=1"""
[CODE]...
It connects and populates fine. I have a button for the user to "refresh" the datagridview. I cannot get it to correctly refill the dgv. I have tried setting the bindsource.datasource to Nothing along with the datagridview datasource, but I get an error that brings up the Visual Studio debugger with no real error message...
I was wondering if there is any way to load data from excel sheet into a datagridview in VB2008 dynamically. I have looked at few data connection codes but all of them involve the excel sheet and thw workbook name. Is there anyway that I enter the excel sheet name in a inputbox and the data from excel loads into datagridview without hardcoding the sheet name. I know data can be imported using the below code, here the programmer has to mention the excel workbook name, path and sheet name. [code]I am developing a program to perform some calculations and my data is in a number of excel workbooks and worksheets. I need to be able to bring the data from these excel sheets into the datagridview to perform calculations. So I was thinking if I could mention the excel sheet name in the GUI and then accordingly the data from that particular sheet would be loaded into the datagridview to perform calculations.
I've been using ms access bfore but want to upgrade coz the company im working in is getting bigger. With almost 10,000 new clients added every week. Im afraid access can't handle it anymore. So im planning to create a new database. Im really new to this SQL Express but have knowledge in sql using vb codes. Is it easy to be used as backend database?
i have code to load data from database to DataGridView.
VB.NET Imports System.DataImports System.Data.OleDb Public Class Form1 Dim dt As New DataTable Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Me.WindowState = FormWindowState.Maximized End Sub Sub setData()
I have a password protected database (.mdb) which has 2 different tables, and a DataGridView What I want to do is:
[Code]...
you would think that this would be simple, but with some sample code i found i could only get it to load and not save, or it would be written for a datagrid and not a datagridview.
I am developing an app that uses a sql backend database (hosted on a different machine). The app I am developing will be run on 10 different workstations simultaneously.Sometimes the app will change the database in such a way that the database needs to initiate a workflow process and I'm not sure of the best way to do this. Also, when database changes happen, how does one best notify the other app instances that the change has happened, so they know to refresh their data? I was thinking that triggers could help initiate the workflow but it might be nice to develop the actual workflow in .net code.Should I write another App to run as a service on the server and do the work and also to tell the client apps when things change?
easy way to simply load the data from database into a datagridview with one of the columns being a comboboxcolumn. Apparently there is no selectedvalue, selectedindex or value as in a combobox to return the combobox value. What I need is to verify if the database value is 'true' and if it is then I need to set the comboboxcolumn with a specific value.
Ex:
if ds.tables(0).rows(0)("flag") = "true" then datagridcolumn.selectedvalue = 1 else datagridcolumn.selectedvalue = 0 end if
I'm a bit new to VB.NET and I have a database which I want to connect to an access backend stored on a network drive for multiple users. I can view the Database in the solution explorer and the directory defaults to the project folder. How can I specify the directory to pull from my network drive? VS has copied this datasource and imported it locally which is fine for testing, but i need the file accessible for multiple users. Is this something I do when publishing?
How To on a database driven login form. I'll include the Administration Backend to go along with it soon. Dial-Up users should not use this thread, it is image heavy
I am an absolute newbie in both oracle and visual basic. I have covered some basics as tutorials and want to develop a database using Visual basic as front end and Oracle as back end. I have Visual Studio 2008 installed and I will use Visual Basic from that. I also have Oracle 10g express edition installed on my system.
I build my project and i got some problems. First i want to print barcode for books(toolstripmenu item). but i cant. here's the code that i found:
[code..]
second problem is printing again. i want to print my MS ACCESS .mdb from child datagridview's records.
third one i want to save and load(with dialogs) my database from main form to child forms' datagridview.and the last one is help provider. i prepare my own .htm help file, when press F1 it opens. but i dont know how to call provider to toolstripmenuitem and help provider keep my computer's path so when i call provider another computer, the programme cant find the path.
We are thinking about changing our current database system, MS Access 2007 front end and MS SQL Server 2005 backend to using a higher level language such as Visual Basic .Net. I wonder if this is the BEST solution for data management? Currently, among others, we have two big database programs that handle more than two hundred users and it's crashed often. That's the reason we think about changing to something that can handle these database programs effectively preferably using MS technology such as .Net.
I'm trying to export a datagridview to Excel and open the Excel spreadsheet (not SAVE the worksheet).
Public Sub ExcelRpt(ByVal DgvName As GridView, ByVal url As String) Dim xlApp As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application Dim xlWorkBook As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook Dim xlWorkSheet As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet
I'm starting with VB 2010. I have an Excel file with a lot of info (dates, kilometers, price, name, etc.). I have been reading about that but I don't do it right. I want to now If someone of you have some code to study or any other resource.
I am trying to load an array from an excel sheet (in xml), whic I have managed by altering some code kindly provided by Beth Massi. the trouble is that I don't really understand some of the original code, hence I cannot remove the binding to some objects in the GUI that I don't need.
I'm migrating to vb.net 2008 from long experience of vb6. I managed to create an Excel Sheet as an object, write data and save. How though, do I load an already created Excel file? The following code does a save, but what do I need to load a file?
ExcelSheet.SaveAs("C:UsersKochanskiDocumentsVisual Studio 2008ProjectsExcel TricksTEST.XLS")
I have an app, it was working but when it was copied to another machine, an error occuied.
Could Not load file or assembly Interop.Excel,Version 1.5.0.0Culture =neutral , publickey token=Null or one of its dependencies ,System could not find the file specified
I do have interop.excel.dll at the same place with app.
the following is a working button to load excel data into a listbox. When I first wrote it I just used a loop to pull items 1-10 to do testing. Then sufficiently forgot about it and remembered just now. So in short here's the button:
I am having a problem regarding to Importing file from excel to listview. Actually my problem is that my program will let the user define what database he/she want. I know already how to load on my listview from .txt, access, ms sqlserver, but my problem is the user want to open from excel file. Base from his data, the columns contained Contact, address, age, name and only in sheet1. My problem now is that the user want to call his/her excel act like a database. The tablename will be Sheet1 and if he/she want to display the age and name column he/she can view by calling the its columnname. The columname will act as a fieldname. How can I do this upon loading all of this to listview. I have here an example on how i load data from .txt(csv) format but i need an excel on how to load data coming from excel.[code]...
I have to use VB.Net. Microsoft provides black magic tools (in the Visual Studio IDE) for making AJAX work, but using these seems hopelessly complicated and documentation for these tools covers only the simplest examples. By contrast, writing the scripts myself seems much easier, and I will understand what is going on.
So my question is, is it possible to write my own AJAX javascript (creating the XMLHttpRequest object, etc.), and have the server-side function be written in VB.Net instead of PHP?
I use:Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop as well as a Reference from the "COM" tab called "Microsoft Excel 11.0 Object Library"
I built my program then copied the .exe from the inDebug folder to a location on my company's server. I then double clicked the .exe and it ran as I expected it would. My boss then tried (from another computer) and he gets this error:See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.
Why I've choosen this forum (VB.Net) instead of Reporting is this seems not a matter of reporting. When I load the report normally, it works fine. When I export the report to Excel, it works fine again. After that when I tried to open the report again, it gives the error : "Load Report Failed" . I've to restart my application for make it work fine again.I'm using a Crystal Report Viewer control to load the report.
