Forms :: Best Way To View/print A Static Pdf?
Jan 29, 2010
Wondering what is the best method of viewing a pdf, and adding text to the pdf, then printing it out? Currently, I opened the pdf in Photoshop, saved it as a bitmap, made it the background image on a form, overlayed it with labels, and am using the form.print method. This isnt exactly the best way to do this. Does anyone else have any good suggestions (without spending more than say $40)?
Project Background:
I work for an aircraft manufacturer/maintainer, and every time we have a broken/removed part, I have to log into our part logistics website, then hand write a form with all the installed and broken parts info (a full page). My program parses all the necessary info from the website, then loads it into textboxes (to be modified if needed) which are then copied into the labels overlaying the image of the form I have to fill out.

I've got an .aspx page with this in it:
<%@ Import Namespace="System.Web.Mvc" %>
<%= AssetController.ScriptTag("/js/Community/CommunityWizard.js")%>
And I have an AssetController class:
Imports System.Web.Mvc
Public Class AssetController
Inherits Controller
[Code]...
What gives? I don't understand why I can use this controller everywhere in our ASP.NET Forms/MVC hybrid application, but not in a view.
EDIT: In fact, when I type <% System.Web. into the .aspx view, Mvc doesn't even appear in Intellisense!

I have a form with a datagridview on it. And whenever the user clicks a button on the bottom, a very small form pops up that has a set of checkboxes. After the user clicks print on that little form I want it to print the datagridview on the first form and whatever checkboxes the user checked off on the top right hand side of the datagridview. I've gotten it to print the datagridview itself. But how can I get the 2nd form to print with the datagrid view.

I have no idea what I have done wrong here, so I'll just attach my project as a zip file and see if any of you are kind enough to look into it for me.I am reasonably experienced in C#.NET but having trouble using VB.NET for a school assignment.I cannot open half of my forms in designer view because "To prevent possible data loss before loading the designer, the following errors must be resolved".

Im developing an app at the moment where standard letters need to be generated to be sent out to customers. With the customers details then filled in as you would expect... name, title, address, etc. This is an app ontop of a SQL db. The way i envisioned this working was to send the customer details to another form that had a crystal report in, and send the info via a SQL query, just as you might get a grid view to open with a query.
Thing is im struggling with it, getting the query to work especially. Ive built the report and put the relevant field place holders in there, but i cant get it to open with just the one customers info in there, it gets every customer and builds a report several thousand pages long! This is because of the "command" thats on the report that i stuck in there on a temp basis while i designed the thing.
However i want the the report to open via a button on another form, and then fill the report with the customers details (using the customer ID number on the form the button was clicked) Since im struggling with this so much, im actually wondering if im going the best way about this? Are there better ways of generating a standard letter that the end user can then view, check it, and hit print?

The application will be a distributed application using Access Runtime.

I am currently using DevExpress 10.2 within Visual Studio 2010. I am printing the contents of the GridControl (with both one and two GridViews contained within). This shows all the current visible columns (and not the invisible columns) and all the data in a viewable manner.
My issue is the print preview always shows all the grouped rows and the master-detail rows fully expanded. I want to make it so that if the user has none of the groups or rows expanded then the print preview displays the grid with none of the groups or rows expanded. Also if the user expands the first group and rows fully then only the first group and rows will be expanded in the print preview and none other.

I am having a strange issue with vb.net 2008. I have two forms that I designed, but I cannot bring them up to edit them. I can only view them when I run the program. I have attached a screen shot of my form showing while my program runs.

I'm in the process of adding EMR (Electronic Medical records) to my app. We have many PDF files that where created in Adobe LiveCycle and Acrobat Pro. Not sure if this is possible, but what I'd like to do is open a PDF file within my app and display it for the user to fillin the PDF form. Once PDF is filled in, I'd like to be notified (user clicks submit) when user is done, then get data out of PDF and save it to database. Or be able to fill in a PDF automatically and then display it to the user for editing. I know there are many tools out there to create/edit pdf files. The Acrobat SDK also includes a PDF viewer control, but the problem with this control is there is no way (I've found) to also edit the file through my program because the control don't expose the AcroForm class through the control. BTW, it this can be done PLEASE let me know how. Also note that most of these are dynamic PDF files (created in LiveCycle) and some of the third party tools don't provide support for these files.
I don't care if Acrobat reader is required to be installed on the user computer, I just need to be able to get some type of notification that the user is done filling in the forms. It might have been easier to just create a winform and with all required fields, but a lot of our users are not computer savy, and have been using the paper version of the PDF files for a while. I need to make it as easy as possible for them to jump in and start using the program, hince embedding the PDF into my app.

I have looked on the Microsoft help website that shows you how to print a document, and various coding fourms that show how to use the print function in specific lines in a document But what I need to print is a datagrid view of the database in VB.

I want to build a form with fields bound to a datasoruce that the user can scroll through (using the up and down arrows). This would be a detail screen, but I don't really want a visible data gird or list on the screen with it, but as I'm still designing this may be something I would want to try also. The screen would be read-only data with a search textbox that would be used to query the list of data. The user will enter a search term and then browse through the detail screen to locate the exact record they want. I'm somewhat restricted on design because I'm trying to replicate a legacy program and don't want to deviate too far from the original design. For my datasource I've got a List (of MyClass), I just need to figure out the binding and navigation.

is there anyway a compiled executable can be decompiled? in other words can its code be viewed? the reason why Im asking this if because I have a small project to do which for the most part is almost done, plus the instructor gave us the executable version of the application for us to test-drive, my application does everything but one thing. it is a small calculator application where there is a operator label that should display the arithmetic operator chosen by the user, per say I Im adding two number, there should be a box displaying the plus "+" sing or any other operator I pick, but I dont know how to get that done, so I would like to see the finished application code just to see how the coding should be done.

I have been playing with VB6 for quite a few years now and I can normally get by ok on my own.I finally made the move to VB.net, but I am totally lost.I have started writing a program that is basically a planner. It helps the user organize and plan activities with a client.I have created the ui and have added a BindingNavigator and it happily pulls in the records from my Access database which I can cycle through. What I would like it to be able to do is, allow the user to see all the current records (maybe in a flexgrid), select which record he/she would like to view, then the entire record is populated into the ui.I would have no problem in vb6 of course...but I could do with a little help in vb.net (2008).My main problem is I think is, once the flexgrid is populated, how to create the event that allows the user to view and update that record once in the ui.
