View 1 Replieswe have a user that my program works fine for.. and another that it just crashes for.. they get this error
"You cannot start application <App_Name> from this location because it is already installed from a different location."
then they run it up again and it comes up.. and then just closes..in reading some stuff online it says its a framework 2.0 sp 1 issue ?these pc's have 3.5, but my program uses all 2.0 stuff..so is this a 2.0 sp level issue ? or should I make my programs start to use framework 3.0 instead ?
I have encounterd a problem when trying to re-enstall a program i have writen in vb 2008.I get the following message:"You cannot start application Shell from this location because it is already installed from a different location."This program is to be used on many workstation computers and i need to be able to update any changes by just reinstalling the program, no uninstalling needed first. If the program was installed from a cd first and needs to be updated from a flash disk this error will be a problem, if the update is from a cd as well then there is no problem.Is there a way to change the installation package to ignore where the program installs from and just update itself?

View 1 RepliesI know that to start a program at startup, we should add this subkey
"C:Program Files<myprogram's path><nameoftheprog>.exe"
to
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
Alright!
But the problem is when my program has to delete a certain file in C:/ at startup, it just can't because it's not ran as administrator!

How can I find the location of my application's executable in WPF (C# or VB.Net)?
I've used this code with windows forms:
Application.ExecutablePath.ToString();
But with WPF I received this error from Visual Studio:
System.Window.Application does not contain a definition for ExecutablePath.
I am creating an application and I have the numbers 1 - 20. Each number represents a location. They are continuous. I need a way to find the closest number to a given location. For example if the event is in location 8 and there are 2 people who can attend who are in locations 6 and 10. Then zone 6 would be chosen as its closest and also the lowest. If I needed the next highest closest number then I could pull all of the numbers into an array and sort them and then pull out the one which is the next highest zone. However as I need to find the closest number which could be lower, im not sure how to achieve this.

I am trying to write a simple Visual Basic 2008 installer that copies word macro templates to Word's startup directory. On Vista and 7, that directory is the user's AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWordSTARTUP directory. Is there a way that I can programmatically find this directory? I.e. is it safe to say that this directory will almost always be in this location such that I can simply get the user's home directory and then add AppDataetc.... or is there a registry or something else that I can access to get Word's current standard startup directory?
View 1 RepliesI have a datagrid view with 3 columns and variable rows. I have many rows so it is tough to know what is where so, the first row consists of names.I have a textbox in which I type in a name and hit a button. Doing this, I want the location of the that cell in terms of row.no and column.no.
Extended : for the adjacent ones just add +1, +2 etc to the column number right ?
How can I efficiently find the location of the first instance of a four byte sequence within a byte array? Is there something more efficient than looping through the whole array, or a built-in method?
I'm searching through a byte array for a pair of CrLF. I can't convert it to string for an InStr first because I need the position of it in the original byte array.
I am trying to figure out the location of this, as it delimits between a string portion and a binary portion, similar (well, exactly like for this part of it) to an HTTP header. There is a string portion, and two CrLf before the content begins.
So I have a string that I need to search through for certain strings. If they exist, then copy that string to a text box. There has to be an easier way to do this then what I have below

What is the best and fastest way to find the exact location(Drive/Folder) of a specific file, without scanning the whole drive. Right now, I am using those two instructions to locate EXCEL.EXE so I can properly call it with a shell command.[code]It is quite a long process, and I have to deal with some access denied folder like System Volume Information. I am quite new to VB programming.

View 1 RepliesI have a procedure at the end of my console application that ask the user to either hit enter to end the program, or type s to perform another search. The issue I'm having is no matter what the user types in the program end. What I would like to happen is if the user types s, then the program starts over and lets the user perform another search. The program is procedural and I need to find a way to start back off at the top of the program which ask the user to type a name to search.

View 2 RepliesI am using a System.Diagnostics.Process to execute dirquota.exe. I catch an exception at .Start() which is "The system cannot find the file specified".
I am now doing:
foreach (var fi in new DirectoryInfo(@"C:WindowsSystem32").GetFiles())
{
Console.WriteLine(fi.Name);
}
This outputs pretty much every file in that directory apart from dirquota.exe.

View 3 RepliesI have made my application to start automaticly when windows start (registry ../currentversion/run/appname + path). In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?
