View 5 RepliesI have a program that uses two forms. The program opens to the Main form, and the user can navigate to the other form from the Main form through use of a button. Here's the way I've currently written it: When the Main form loads, it declares and instantiates the other form during the load procedure. When the user presses a button, the second form is displayed by means of the ShowDialog method. On the second form, there is a Return to Main Screen button which closes the second form, bringing the user back to the Main form.
So, here's the structure of the code:

Here's my reasoning: Originally, I wrote the code so that a new instance of the second form was created every time the button was pressed. The problem was that whatever data was displayed on the second form, previously, was lost when the user returned to it a second time. Since the user would be switching back and forth between these forms, frequently, I needed that data to persist.
What is the best practice for accomplishing this:
1) Declare and instantiate the second form on program start, as I have done, and use the button simply to show the form?
2) Declare and instantiate the second form each time the button is pressed but maintain the variables on the Main form and pass them ByRef to a custom constructor for the second form? Is this even possible?
3) Something else?

This code is used to load a PDF in a PDF viewer. Because the PDFs are sometimes huge and there is no idea on how fast the machines are that will access the app, I have created a form to show that the program is busy thus the "ShareClass.LoadingIndicator" routine.

The problem I have is that when the app runs and these subs fire, the LoadingIndicator form shows up but the ProgressBar1 and Label1 show as all black on the screen. I tried to make a screen shot of this but the screen shot showed nothing as if the form wasn't even there. How can I resolve this? What I would like to do is make the LoadingIndicator form be borderless so it appears as a label and progressbar laid ontop of the loading PDF reader as the PDF loads. If I take the transparency off it works fine.
I'm working on an update to one of my programs, and for some reason this new version isn't working on Windows XP. It crashes immediately upon launching (before the GUI is even visible on screen). This shows up in the Event Viewer[code]...

View 5 RepliesI'm facing problem while reference vb6 dll in .net project. When ever i refer a vb6 dll in .net project the interop dll is created with same version(1.2.0.0). Its creating problem for me as the setup used to deploy the application at client side does not replace the dll if the version is same as before. I want to change the version of the interop dll (created using vb6 dll). I read it cam done using tlbIMP but how to create tlb file for vb6 dll.

He responded that it would not run and the PC reported "this program requires Net Framework 2.0". He cannot update the PC in question with Net Framework 2.0. View 11 RepliesI have several programs written in VB2008 on a network shared drive. Multiple PC's which have access to this drive run the programs. The problem is when I want to upgrade the program or a file/picture with changes, either I cannot overwrite the .exe file because someone is running it, or for example, a background picture on an open form is loaded and then I cannot change the picture on the server. I thought of placing a timing loop in the programs to frequently check a file on the server, which when I need to make a change, I can fill with an appropriate trigger word (like "exit") that would have the program terminate and be unable to restart until I change the file to "OK", but this seems rather crude. I assume there's a better and more elegant method.

I wrote a program using VB 2005 Express edition using a computer with windows xp us edition. the program run fine on al machines here in San Diego but it gets a .net framework error on a computer in the Netherlands with a windows Xp Dutch edition.

View 4 RepliesI've been using a piece of code I found that reads in joystick movement into my VB application using DirectInput. Building an executable works great, the program operates as should be, however when I publish my program for final deployment, I get the following error:
"WindowsApplication has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Here's some of the error details:
