IDE :: AES Encryption That Is Reputable Or Bank Secure

I am trying to find some source code that is reputable such as code created by Microsoft or a similar entity that has released the source code for AES 128 encryption in the latest VB .net framework. My understanding of encryption methods is sufficient though, I am not an expert on the subject. The following source code [URL] on the MSDN network works very well in VB though with the advent of more secure AES encryption, I would like to be more prudent by using a more secure method. Unless someone can prove or explain that this source code is at a level of a "bank standard encryption" or better I would like to be pointed in the right direction of more secure code or advice from experts.

I am using a slightly modified version of this code. to create a mission critical application. That files that will be encrypted are very important. This has to be done from scratch because there are some other things that has to be done along with this. How secure is this? Its impossible to crack this encryption right? [Code]

What would be the best way of storing data securely away from users. What I have is a stack of files that get downloaded by the program, at the moment they COME encrypted, and stored in a temp location. Now where would be the be place to store them, and how would I store them? The program reads normal unencrypted files but in order for me to open them at the moment I nee to decrypt them in the temp folder and open them from there.This is bad because anyone could find the temp folder and simply copy out all the unencrypted files.Opening the files and then decrypting the bytearray is out of the question because the program only takes a filename as a option.

Is there a way to encrypt/decrypt text (string form) in VB.net using another string as a key? Meaning, if one user encrypts using this key, the other user needs to decrypt using the same key?I do NOT mean public and private key encryption or anything of the sort.If not, what is the second best way to encrypt/decrypt data without public/private keys?I want to make a simple way to send messages securely.

I've been trolling for a long time now and have decided to register as I finally have some time to start jumping into VB. The last time I coded VB, the current version was VB 4. I've been out of programming for a good while now and considered myself a beginner (tutorial example coder haha).
My question is: Where is a good place to start learning VB.NET?
I know it's an often asked and answered question - but let me give you a bit more information so more specialized replies might be given.
I'm in INFOSEC/COMSEC and would like to (eventually) develop a program that contains a DB of information that is read by the application and saves input information into a DB (encrypted) as well. The program will be a 800-53 C&A control assessment program; used for tracking system compliance for federal information systems. I would like to be able to develop such a tool to make my life easier at work instead of using Excel spreadsheets to track everything.
I would like to learn:
- Input / Output methods and validation (for secure coding)
- Read/Write DB Encryption (RSA or other 128-bit) for user input information
- Ability to generate PDF reports from the primary keys and data sets from the above DB
My goal is to create a program that allows a user to install the program, setup a 'master' account that a serial/key has been generated for - that master account is then allowed to create new projects (progress saved in DB). A project asks the user certain questions pertaining to information systems and takes the input and saves it into the DB (encrypted). When the assessment is completed, I would like the program to be able to generate a PDF report from the DB (from a layout template I created).

What are some good libraries that've been written in VB.NET? The best would be open source, as that would allow interested developers to take a look at some good VB.NET code and see how the language can be used effectively. But I'd be interested to know about any libraries at all, particularly reputable ones.Long-winded explanation of where I'm coming from: Generally speaking, when VB.NET and C# are compared, there is a lot of strong support for C#, accompanied by some bashing of VB.NET until a respected developer comes along and acts as The Voice Of Reason, pointing out that while VB prior to VB.NET had its fair share of issues, VB.NET is really a very strong, fully OOP language that is, feature-wise, right about on par with C# (with the exception of certain things like a full-bodied lamba syntax [pre-VB10] or the yield keyword, as many C# faithfuls are quick to point out).
I myself, having written plenty of code in both VB.NET and C#, fall squarely in the "I prefer C#, but don't consider VB.NET any less of a language" camp. However, one thing I have noticed is that when it comes to respected and/or widely-used libraries for .NET, everyting is written in C#. Or at least that's been my impression. This strikes me as a little strange because, aside from the abovementioned sprinkling of nice features (in particular the yield keyword), I tend to view the VB.NET/C# divide as primarily a matter of personal taste. Obviously, plenty of developers prefer C#. But I personally know some developers (good ones) who prefer VB.NET, which would lead me to suspect that surely some libraries (good ones) would be written in VB.NET.

I have set up a method in vb.net and in xcode for encrypting a string using as far as i can tell the same parameters for an AES encryption.I've looked all over the place but cannot find information on whether they use the same encryption algorithm and settings.

I am creating a banking system using excel and visual basic programming. To create a withdrawal macro I must have a button which will perform the following things: Ask the user via input box the account number, amount and pin. The program should then search for the relevant record in the account sheet, check the pin and reduce the balance by the correct amount. a message box should then result that tells the user they have made a successful withdrawal the program should not allow a withdrawal if this makes the corresponding balance less than - 1000

I am doing an assignment for my intermediate programming class. It is due tonight at 730. Anyways, I am almost finished, but I have run into a snag. I have this "bank application" and we are storing the info in a text file. However, whenever there is a deposit or withdrawal, the "accounts.txt" file is to be updated. All of the new account info is being written to a "Temp.txt" file and eventually will be renamed to the new "Accounts.txt" file. The problem I'm having is that it isn't writing non-updated account info to the temp file and I don't know how to make it do that while keeping the accounts in order and not rewriting the same account info more than once.

I have an awful lot of it "down" by now, in that I understand how to design a form and add buttons, how to set properties and am even learning "procedures and parameters". But I think I'm missing something, and it's probably my own fault as I jump around the book (I'm about 1/2 way through the 500 page volume, and have completed chapters from the beginning and middle) I think I understand the "Visual" part, and I think I even understand enough of the "Basic" part to get going.
I want to write a simple program to take our downloaded bank statements (what better time to do this than tax time and sort them out. They are .pdfs so I need to first copy the text and sort of "break it apart" and add tabs etc so I can import to a database (I've been playing around a lot with databases too, and have a good grasp on that part of the equation) I have been reading (in the book) about reading text files with StreamReader, and Replacing Text Within a String, etc. how to "get going..." how to even start writing a program. Do I start with a form? Do I need to create a Visual interface to run the Basic?
Are there existing examples somewhere I could "get my feet wet" working with that already have simple find/replace functions? It's almost as if I know too much about the more complex stuff like "Denoting Scope Using Variable Prefixes", but not how to write a simple program. I'm adding to this -- as I think about it, the main "Project" used throughout the book is a Picture Viewer. I think it if had been a "data replacer" or something like that, I wouldn't be asking this question! I don't want to open a picture, I want to manipulate a text file.

I'm using VB 2008 express edition.I have to show the growth of savings in a bank account using input from two text boxes that will be deposit amount and interest rate. I have attached a picture of my form.I have declared my variables and now I'm working on my processing.When the compute button is hit, based on the deposit amount and the interest rate, the amount of years it takes to double the money and the amount of years it takes to become a millionaire with that amount will be displayed in the lower text boxes.
Here's some of my math reasoning...
Doubling time formula : 2P = P(1+ i)^n I tried solving for ^n and got: n = logP(1 + i)/log2P
Is this correct? How do I express logarithms in VB?As for the amount of years that it takes to become a millionaire, can I simply take the deposit amount for example $500 dollars and divide 1,000,000 by 500 to get 2000 so it takes 2000 deposits of 500 dollars each to reach 1 million. Is my arithmetic correct?

I'm trying to display a list of "bank transactions" (these are fake, it's a game) so no need to worry about security but what tool should I use? I've use a Grid view for other parts of the game and don't want to "overuse" this tool.The list may have 2 rows it may have 30 rows although I might limit this? It will need to be able to use a date, a text reason and a value.

What is best practice for securing DLL's for projects you are working on? Certain DLL's I am interested in developing will have data access layer (DAL) and business logic layer (BLL) functionality. There may be several apps that can eventually hit these DLL's to perform business specific functions. What is the best way to secure these DLL's so they can only be used by only creator's applications?Security for both blocking unauthorized use of the DLL's and security against possible decompilation are both desirable.

I'm developing a VB.Net and SQL Server 2005 Express application.Q: How to encrypt string values in the database to secure them from the one using my software and from DBAs (people who have access to the DB Server)? Here is what I tried:First, I used a Symmetric Encryption provided by the .Net Framework. But I noticed that I could not make partial searches (LIKE keyword). So, this is not working.
Then, I used a logic similar to the ROT13 to hide text. Although this logic works fine from VB.Net, once data has been stored in the database, the logic fails to decrypt data correctly. After some tries, I thought that the reason the logic failed was the Collation of the database (I do not know much about Collation topic).So, the first way doesn't allow partial searches, and the second way is not secure and also does not work because of the Collation or maybe another reason.I want to encrypt data. I've successfully hidden the schema by giving meaningless names to tables and columns.

I don't want my programs to be cracked. I have this simple authorization system that prompts my users to enter their forum credentials (I have a forum and the users must be registered members to use the programs).So I made a php script that will take in 3 strings sent in by my applications and it will check against the database if that user exists and is of the proper group and it will display a message on the page and my application then looks for the response in the page source which says if this particular user is allowed to use the program or not.
