Interface And Graphics :: Looping A Paint Event Run On A Timer
Nov 20, 2009
I've got this code which draws a line and it moves down to a point then two curves are drawn coming off of it. I need to get it to repeat itself after a short period, so there's a constant flow of lines moving down then becoming curves.[code]

This is a working example which draws a rectangle on different location every timer_tick and I fully understand now how it's working:
Code:
Dim i, timercount As Integer
Private Sub PictureBox1_Paint(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.PaintEventArgs) Handles PictureBox1.Paint
[code]....
Now I'm looking for a way to draw this rectangles without refreshing them every single tick. I've just started using Visual Basic and I really don't know how to call/raise PictureBox1_Paint event every timer_tick or how to store drawing data in member variables?

I've got a basic idea of what i'm wanting to do, just been out of it too long to remember how to do it. I'm wanting to load an image, not display it. Get all the pixel data, then redraw the image pixel for pixel in mspaint.

This one is killing me. I don't think this would be so difficult if M$ documentation was to the point and talked in normal speak (I guess they don't understand KISS).it seems unnecessarily difficult to raise a paint event without a picturebox getting redrawn (all existing graphics erased). Invalidate, Refresh and Update all erase the picturebox. All I want to do is get the procedure ( with Handles Picturebox1.paint) to fire so I can draw to it without erasing what is already there. I looked into the RaiseEvent statement but there are a zillion errors that pop up for one reason or another telling me I can't do it. So: 1. How the heck can I get this to work? 2. Does anyone know of a great book on vb.NET that doesn't try to impress anyone with it's command of the English language, but instead teaches. As far as I can tell, M$ is full of themselves in a major way?

Running a graphics effect in the Paint event of a Form. I am thinking of something like a screensaver effect, not necessarily full-screen either. Would a background worker be better suited to this idea or using another thread? I wouldn't want something that is very demanding on a computer processor. In fact, what I was originally thinking, is it possible to put a Windows screensaver program inside a Form?

I am running an application to control at 1, 10 and 100 Hz to compare their response for a control systems class. I have a timer that reads data from hardware, a timer that updates the screen and does the control, and a timer that writes data to a file. I've been having problems with the speed of the write timer, so I created a buffer. It takes 0 ms to load the buffer, and the buffer is written to file using a synchronized streamwriter and a thread every 100 iterations. It also flips back and forth between two buffers so there are no read/write conflicts. If I try to run at 10 Hz, the timer executes on average every 109 ms. If I try to run at 100 Hz, the timer executes on average ever 15-16 ms.

I'm beginning the process of trying to recreate minesweeper. See the attached picture of the version on my computer. My guess would be all the click-able locations are images. But notice the beveled borders around all the components, and how they separate the different section of the game. How would I go about created that? And what about the digitized timer and mine counter. Are those images too? I'm fairly new to VB programming (windows programming in general).

I have tried to realign the image by down and right one pixel, but still only part of the first row and column are visible when zoomed.I can't find exactly what I'm looking for online.
My computer is an HP-Pavillion dv9600 Notebook PC.
OS: Windows Vista SP2 32-bit
The following code reproduces the problem:

Is it possible to detect a mouse leave to the left. For example: I have a label and when I hover over it the text changes to "Hovering", and when I leave the label from the left I want the text to change to "Exit left" or if I leave the label from the right that text changes to "Exit right".

Back in the VB6 days, I could count on frmWhatever_Resize() to be fired when a form is loaded. That doesn't still seem to be the case. Since my resize event is filled with all the code I want that adjusts the size and placement of things, I decided to just call it from the end of the form's load event. That has no affect. I'm guessing that the form isn't actually shown until form_load is finished?
is there some other event that is fired when a form is shown, so I can call my resize code there?

The scrollbar that comes with the ListBox is too small for touch screens, so I use my own scrollbar instead. But when you do this on various forms you end up repeating a lot of code. So my solution was to create a custom scollbar that has a property I can set to the control I want it to be a scrollbar for. In vb6, I can use the withevents keyword to get access to the control's events so that all the scrollbar related code can be in the custom scrollbar object I created, except...I had to create a refresh method for the consuming code to use to let the scrollbar know when the number of items changes. The scrollbar doesn't need to be told how many items there are because it has access to the control, but for a listbox there is no event to tie into when an item is added/removed so not 100% of the scrollbar related code could be encapsulated.

I used to program with Visual Basic 6, so I have alot of old programs that I'm updating, plus I'm learning the new VB2008 methods. I'm writing a program that replaces the old "BitBlit" function which is no longer supported by Visual Basic 2008. It involves three picture boxes, one holds the sprite bitmap, a second holds the mask (silhouette) of the sprite bitmap, and a third has a background image.

I'm working on a design project where I have to use a Graphical User Interface that contains a drag and drop form. It consists of having a window dropped on a wall. Both of them are images to scale. I would like to know what kind of code I would have to use to show the x and y coordinates of one of the points of my window when dragged so when I drop it, I'm dropping in it on the desired coordinate of the wall.

So, basically, I need two instances of that class in my form, right?I manage to initialize two, alright. But, how exactly am I supposed tomanage drawing/graphics etc in a class, and the results to be displayed in my form?

I was wondering if I could elicit some tips on how to procede with an interface design approach. That is. What is a good way to go about establishing a "work area" where one can have multiple "floating forms" in this area. Can you have a form which occupies the entire windows desk top and the other forms "float" in this space? the "floating" forms would need to interact with each other where pressing buttons etc on them would affect other forms on the "workspace") Or what would be a good way to start accomplishing that? Or is there a better way to get the same effect?

I'm trying to make a .dll that contains a lot of basic functionality that a program can use. Currently i am trying to use interfaces to make a lot of this functionallity independend of the program using it but i hit a snag. The Basic idea is that a programmer will create his own object using the interface discribed in my .DLL file. Then implements those functions as he likes. He can then instanciate a controller (found in the same DLL) and sends his custom object implementing the interface to that Controller. The controller can then be started and will take over all the work. I do not know what type of object is send to the controller and idealy i want to program it in such a fashion that i shouldn't care as long as the object send implements that interface. In code I am trying to achieve the following: (quite simplyfied)
.Dll:
Code:
Public Interface MyInterface '<----Decleration of the interfaceFunction GetData() As Integer
Function SetData(Data As Integer)
end interface
[code]....
this propperly. I know that the second i set the interface adaptor in the Controller VS comes nagging that it can not be converted to a "MyInterface" Class. Obviously i am doing something wrong. I can change the datatype that the controller expects to the "MyController" type but that would completely ruin the whole idea of flexibillity. I am hoping someone sees what i am trying to do and can point out where i made the thinking error.

So I decided to make my famous tile selector project, but instead of drawing in a form's graphics, do it inside a tabpage.Well, I managed to get it working, but it seems to... flicker.Normally, setting the form's DoubleBuffered property to True would help a lot there, but apparently, the tabpage has no such property.
When I invalidate the tabpage, I draw two images and fill one rectangle.Following past advice, those two images were created before, just once, and are stored in a variable so I don't create them every time I invalidate the tabpage.

This little experiment was a test prompted by a previous thread to learn to work in a graphics object, then paint everything later to a picturebox (later, will be looking at building own custom control for the display), and save out the bitmap to a file on the HD.But weird things happen here. Nothing will display in the picturebox, and the saved bitmap is just a black box.The only partial success I had was replacing: e.Graphics.DrawImage(MyBitmap, 0, 0)
with,
PictureBox1.image = MyBitmap
inside the paint event handler, but that caused infinite recursion of the paint event. But at least I could see parts of the graphic for a fraction of a second before it was wiped clean, every time I clicked the "Go_cmd" button. But what is weird is that this partial success showed that the graphics object was copying successfully over to the bitmap image (because I could briefly see parts of it in the picturebox, but the saved file would still come out black, even though it was based on the same bitmap! The code is as follows.Above the form1 class
Imports System.Drawing.Imaging
The single declaration:
Public MyBitmap As Bitmap
The form_load procedure:[ code].....
The code in the version shown above would not even show a brief moment of the graphics in the picturebox, and the saved .bmp file is just a filled black box.

I load my picturebox with a jpeg. If I put my DrawObjects() sub into picturebox paint event. When ever a picturebox.refresh or picturebox.visible = true (vb.net seems to draw my DrawObjects() first, then load the jpeg Image over my drawing - erasing drawing) Is there a way to get the picturebox to redraw the jpg image first then draw on it, in picturebox paint event?
