I am currently using vb2008 express, I want to have a database inside the finished application. Not one that connects to an external database or any outside connections but one so all the data is readable, writable, deletable from within the application itself.

Now they need me to add undo/redo functionality to the application and I just dont know where to start. I am looking first for a general tip on where to begin:
I have one form, for e.g., that manages their stores. Then another for catagories...now they need the undo for all this things and am not sure if it is even possible cos datas are related.
I would like the size of a label to be identical to the space used by the text inside. The height and width of a label does indeed change depending on its content (text property and its font), but there is a wide margin that I would like to remove.
View 1 RepliesI've made a user control and have added some internal labels inside it. In the User control class I'm trying to handle the mouse events so that: When the mouse enters the User-Control the background of the User-Control turns white - using MouseEnter event. When the mouse leaves the User-Control the background of the User-Control turns grey - using MouseLeave event. However as soon as I move the mouse over the internal labels it triggers the MouseLeave event. I don't want it to do that, because the mouse hasn't left the bounds of the User-Control! So, how do I get it to not trigger the MouseLeave event when the mouse is still internal to the User-Control?
View 9 RepliesHow can I call a function from inside another function and suspend the calling function until the called function is finished? I hope I can get some replies because I don't know how to ask the question and make sense:).
Anyway what I am trying to do in steps:
1. The user clicks button1 which triggers the click event.
2. From the click event I call a function
3. I then pop-up a form, that has instructions for the user to read.
4. After the user has read the form he will click the "Done" button and return to the calling function.
The problem is the the calling function continues to execute. I want to stop execution of the calling function until the users clicks the "Done" button on the instruction pop=up. I know I can use a msgbox but the instructions can be lengthly and does not look good in a msgbox.
I have tried the Call method with return in the "Done" button click but I can make that work. I also tried a goto statement but I can get that to work either. In the call statement I said call frmInstruction.show() and it got there but as I said the calling function continued to execute.
I am trying to compile my program, and each time i do the access database is outside the executable. I was wondering if it is possible to compile it and the database will be within the executable, or better still how do i make it an installer kind of application that sends all the files to the programes folder on the computer.

i'm working on a internet cache cleaner.. i load the cache files in a listbox and send them to the recycle bin. in this process, the app stalls until completion and the stall depends on how many files are in the cache.how can i do this and keep my app active, not stall?

Its an updater, so basically I want the form to hide until the download is finished, and then exit.I've tried to make a setting to tell the app when it is still downloading, and on form closing check this variable, but it won't work. View 5 RepliesI built a program in visual studio 2005 that access a Microsoft Access database. I need this program to be a standalone program on many machines. To do this, I need to install a copy of the database when the program installs. I tried including it in the application files part of the build, but the problem I am having is the connection strings dont update with the install. It still tries to point to the folder it is in on the comnputer i built the program.

View 11 RepliesI have recently finished a console application and deployed it to several computers on our network for testing. As it is just an EXE a copied to the hard drives of selected computers for now. When the app is launched it writes info to an sql DB so I always know which computers it is on.
During the past few weeks I have modified this app at least 6 times (improvements, adjustments, etc)
It is a paint to keep going back to the computers to update it with the new version, and getting mixed up which version i am on - LOL I am looking for advice on how I would go about doing this automatically, for example, it would be cool if I just had to put an updated file in a repositry and clients would use this to update.
In Visual Studio, when I view the properties of my application>assembly information - I can set a file version. Is it possible to extract this info and store it in a variable? I would like to dump the in my DB. Also I could then possibly compare the file version of the launched app against an updated file in a network share folder.
I want to be able to display information from my internal database into a list box. Elements older than X minutes shall be removed from the beginning of the list to free memory.
As far as i can understand will there be an internal (slow) redim when i add each element after i have reach the number defined with the Capasity metod. (I set that quite big from the start, but the data speed is unpredictable so it can be exceed)
What happens each time i remove and element from the beginning of the list , seems like it takes a lot of time, ? new redim ?
What is the most CPU fficient way of removing 1 or many elements from the beginning of such a list?

I have a form (check the img) where I have 2 panels inside of it. I have 2 labels in the first panel and in the second panel I have a custom control.
What I want to do: Detect when the mouse enters and leaves the form.I currently try to detect with the Form1_Enter event but that doesn't work since the objects in the form are positioned in such a way that the mouse never reaches the "Form" and thus only passes over the objects.
I could do something like Sub DetectEntrance() Handles Form1.Enter, Label1.Enter, Label2.Enter and such...
But that wouldn't work when detecting the mouse leaving the form. Because then the leave-sub/function would be activated as fast as the mouse leaves one of the objects and not the form itself.
Then I thought of using the Bounds.IntersectsWith function to see if the mouse is outside of the bounds but I'm not sure how to use it.
