Loading File Info Properly?
Dec 27, 2009I have setup a file that is comma delimited:
{object name,text,object name,text...}
I have loaded the file, split the delimited text into to separate arrays. One array is for the' object name', the other for its corresponding text.The text is no issue. My issue is that the 'object name' would look something like "form1.label1, form1.label2..." This loads fine, but I can not figure out how to get the 'object name' to be used as an object.I dimensioned the array for 'object name' as an object, but this won't work:
objectname(i).text = "..."
Looking at the values of the 'object name' array, after each listing it says {string}I need this to work this way because the file is loaded with the idea that it could be in any order, longer or shorter then another, etcetera.
VS 2008 - Loading Form With Some Info
Apr 16, 2009I want to create a form that, when starting, will display in a ListBox the content of a txt file. I know the file is read because I can display the content in a MsgBox. Here's a snippet of what I tried so far:

Feb 17, 2009I'm writing a program in VB.Net and loading the info into a SQL database. Debugging it works fine on my machine that I am programming it on, it connects to the database and runs through all the info perfectly. However trying to get it to run on another machine it will not connect to the database. I realize the reason for this is the connection string, it's looking specifically at the file directory for the database. How do I change this so that it will function on any machine. The program is only intended to run on one machine at a time and not over the internet.

Apr 27, 2010It has the ability to recursively grab all .wmv and .mp3 files in any chosen folder, and add them to a playlist.When opening the playlist, my program adds all the songs to an array, then starts adding the songs to a listview, categorizing them by song, artist, album, and genre, using a dll to access the ID3v1 tags on the .mp3 file.It can successfully create playlists of thousands of songs at a somewhat okay speed, the problem is loading that into the categorized listview.It used around 75% of my friend's CPU while loading his 5k+ song playlist into the listview, and it never finished after loading it in for a couple minutes (it auto updates as it loads, because it is done in a new thread.) It never finished because his OS has a bug where, if the CPU usage is over 100% for more then a few mins, it BSOD's, but that's beside the point.
His CPU, by the way, is a quad core 2.33 GHZ processor.The listview loads thousands of songs by using a lot of CPU [low amount of RAM, less then 40MB 99% of the time], and it does it slowly. [code]I've already redone the sub once or twice to speed it up, and at the moment it's 2-3.,

Apr 24, 2011For a class project I am thinking of doing a Spelling Bee game. I would like to have a button that will place the word in a sentence, and a button that will give the definition. Are there .txt dictionaries out there with this information? I've checked a few places like WordNet but I didn't see a dictionary that also includes sentence info. My other concern is using custom classes. I don't have a lot of experience creating classes, and I really want to become more familiar with them, so it is important that I integrate them into this project. What would be a logical way using classes in this project? Maybe a 'word' class?

Apr 6, 2010I have this program im making it is supposed to be a basketball game monitor. The user enters two teams and the 12 players on each team then it has you pick the 5 active players and takes you to the run form where you can start the game once started you can add things like fouls and baskets made and attempted if a player gets 5 fouls or you hit stop clock you change which players are active and its supposed to update the database through the dataset and dataadapter but it doesnt seem to update the database with the info put in the datagrid view.
Here is the code of the run form i will also attach source in zip file if needed to point out mess ups
Update: When you hit resume game after change of players is when it puts zero on everyone again.

Also creating a database.Example. The Database will contain a list of customers. Within each customer profile there could be any number of databases for just that customer. and with in each database there is a system to keep track of different things.
Main Database = List of different Customers
Customer Data Base = List of different key systems.
Customer database key systems = list of key generated and if the have used that number or not. (Along with other info)

Asp.net - Unable To Put Info Into To Save To The Database?

When I hit the edit button and my columns change into edit mode I can enter information just fine. But when I try to loop through the control to get the information it doesn't pick anything up?

I want it to be saved in a format that doesn't require the user to have Access or any other program, so that the only thing users need are the .exe and the database file. Another question about the datagridview: How do I access the content on specific rows and columns of the datagridview? If I want TextBox1.Text to be whatever is written on Row 4, Column 2, how do I access that information?

Game Programming :: Getting A Highscore To Save And Load Using My.Settings
May 20, 2011I've tried to implement this highscore saving feature, so that when my application closes, the highscore saves within the my.settings storage function, and when my program loads up again, the same highscore loads up from this file. atm, it works ONLY within the application (I can close forms and it's still there, but if i end the program it resets to 0 next time it's loaded).it's basically 2 lines of code..1 for saving and 1 for loading..is this the best way to save a highscore for a game? I was initially thinking of making a database and linking it to that, but apprantly it's easier with the My.settings. even thought of using stremawriter but it's more uneccessary work over my.settings.[code]

The files save fine, but when you go to save the file, if you hit the cancel button, it will overwrite the previous file you saved, because it's name was the same and it seems to save the previous file as the new name for your next file. Is there any way to catch if the user clicks cancel, and then exiting the sub if they did?
