I have a client that needs me to create an app that:Takes a list of text files from a checklistbox and inject a variable into each file then place the new text file into a seperate checklistbox and save each new text file as a new file name.
View 7 RepliesI found this code on here to open a text fille, do a find & replace then save the changes, and the code is in a loop that will do that to every file in a given folder. My question is I also have files in sub folders, and more sub folders, and i'm not sure how deep it goes. I want to recursivly go though all the sub folders and do this to all the files, not just the files directly in the main folder.

For instance Each Text file has my old company name and I want to be able enter my new name into the textbox and click the command button and the app will open each text file, find the text that I specify and replace it with my new name then save the file into a specified folder.What elements should I be studying to make this happen? So far this is what I've come up with:
OpenFileDialog - to open the file
StreamReader - to read the text files and find the text that I specified
**Not sure on the replace method**
StreamWriter - to write the text from the textbox to the new file
SaveFileDialog - to save the file to the specified location

I'm completely new to .NET and am trying as a first step to write a text processing program. The task is simple: I have a list of 10,000 text files stored in one folder, and I'm trying to read each one, store it as a string variable, then run it through a series of functions, then save the final output to another folder. So far I can only manage to manually input the file path like this (in VB.NET):

View 2 Repliesi can't edit my vb files. after having opened visual studio 2008, i open a project with the solution file. i can see, in the solution explorer window, my vb file. but if i double-click the vb file, i have the following error; there is no editor available for form1.vb. make sure the application for the file type (.vb) is installed. i have re-installed visual studio and still got the error. someone knows how to fix this?

i have tried itextsharp for putting watermark on pdfs. It worked fine. Now i am trying to edit existing Header on pdf file to desired header. Is it possible? if its possible then i have to try to use it on the bunch of pdf files in one single folder

View 1 RepliesI have two Windows 7 machines and for some reason one of them does not save the changes in the file on the local computer when I right click in the WebBrowser and choose View Source.
When I click on View Source in the WebBrowser, it opens the file but with [1] attached to the filename.
When I edit the Source, and save it and reload the webbrowser,the changes not saved.
There are 2 ways we can add .vb files.We can add them as a link and choose not to copy. Or we can add them and copy.The way I did it in vb.6 is equivalent with add them as link and choose not to copy.Also what's the point of copying to target folder anyway? I want the original linked file to be updated when I change the file during debuging.

Each question has an associated drop-down listbox that the user will eventually click on to enter his or her response. My client has now informed me that she wants to change the standard responses in each response box. There are well over 100 drop-down listboxes, all with the same items, and they all must be changed.
I originally inputted the items using design view. Would someone please tell me if it's possible to edit all of these boxes in the design view simultaneously? When I control + click on more than one box, the Edit Items option that is normally available disappears. Is there a way to do it in code in a manner that would save back into design view?

Those were found by trial and error and there are a few more on the net.

I have a SQL Server table with a list of files (path + filename), and a folder with multiple layers and files in each layer. I'm looking for a way to reconcile the two without having to process the list twice. Currently, I'm doing this:

Is there a better way to do this? I'd like to avoid converting all the matching files (of which most will be) to FileInfo objects twice. Since I'm a T-SQL developer first, I'm picturing something like an OUTER JOIN of the two lists where they don't match. Something LINQ-ish?

Im designing a program that will read from various text files (preferably RTF files) and then put them into the RTF box in the program when a button is clicked.
Here is the portion of my code that i am referring to.

Now heres the problem. In the file i have a few pictures and its formatted and what not. I thought since its a RTF file and the Box is RTF it would auto format.... but anyways. It appears like this in the RTF Box.

Ok so im not sure how i can read from a RTF file and put it in the RTF box with the right format....Ive been searching around for a while.
On a image file (PDF), the OCR has recognised the picture and text. However on Visual Basics, how do you search for a text on this image file? The primary goal is to allow a text search (i.e POxxxxx) on all the image files (PDFs). The returns of the search will be the assciated image files where the text (i.e POxxxxx) is found on.
