Prevent Graphics Drawn In Panel From Refreshing?
Mar 17, 2009
I'm making a plotting program. The panel (vs picturebox) is necessary because the data doesn't all fit into one screen so scrollbars are needed. I'm using graphics to draw the background layer and buttons for the data points.
When I scroll, the background is redrawn incorrectly since the top left corner of the panel is no longer the top left data point. Ideally, I'd like to prevent the background layer from redrawing entirely (after the initial draw). Alternatively, how do I take in consideration the new position of the scrolled panel in drawing the shapes & lines in the background layer?

the Datagridview is included in first tabpage. first tabpage is the search form and the second tabpage is the record detail view. user is switching and working between those two continuously.
The problem is that everytime user selects the tabpage1 the datagridview repaints itself. there is about 6000 rows in datagridview so it takes about 2-3 sec to paint itself. I know the delay is normal and can't avoid that. but it affects the tabpage selection. tabpage1 isn't selected completely until the Datagridview1 finishes it job. in this time the tabpage1 and tabpage2 gets combined and confused.
is there a way to put datagridview processing in backgroundworker or something that doesn't affect main UI ?

I draw some graphics on a picture box. However, I want to change the width and height of the picture box so that the drawn graphics fit exactly in the picture box (during run time, where graphics may change). How can I do this, or how can I get the region of the drawn graphics so that I can change the width and the height of the picture box manually.

I'm creating a custom form that is composed of a inner stroke, outer stroke, and rounded rectangular background. When the form is initially drawn its drawn fine without errors but once i re size it, the old form is still drawn and the new form is drawn below it but once i minimize the form and restore it, it goes back to normal (only the new form is being drawn).

I have a program where I use a picture box (pAudiogram) to display a template. Then I use Graphics (myLine) to plot things on this picture box. Some example code is below:
Dim myBluePen As New Pen(Color.Blue) : myBluePen.Width = 2
Dim myRedPen As New Pen(Color.Red) : myRedPen.Width = 2
Dim myLine As Graphics = pAudiogram.CreateGraphics

I have a TopBar, A LeftBar, A VScrollBar, A HScrollBar and a Panel inside a SplitContainer Panel. The issue I'm having is that when my SplitContainer Panel is small enough to enable one of the ScrollBars, I will slide the ScrollBar and then when I resize the Split Panel, my Panel1 is staying where I scrolled it too.I'm having troubles thinking of the correct code to fix this.

I wrote a piece of code that will create text boxes inside a flowlayout panel on a form using the number of records that are selected from the database as the loop counter. I can get the program to work the first time through but on the next attempt the text boxes that were displayed in the flowlayout panel are still there. I have tried using the clear property of the flowlayoutpanel but that did not work. I have also tried a new instance of the flp that did not work either.I have taken the code apart and all of the individual pieces work except for this part below. The way I tested this was to input a # and then run it again with another # and I want the # of boxes to change without closing the form.

I have an application that has a list of point and I can choose a tool and draw one image to different locations then remove them if I wish, and when I finish editing those images, I can then pick another tool . The images are supposed to go away that were drawn by e.graphics but they only do when I click in the picturebox. How can I hide the images or delete them from graphics when I choose another imageHere's the paint event alone

The program below works fine except for the problem for which The program below allows input of a volume and value which are both successfully drawn to the screen. I will be adding variables to retain the value of each new Volume and new Value input. However, I need code to delete the volume and value graphic numbers
drawn to screen when new volume and value's are input. At present new numbers are drawn on top of the existing graphics rather than replacing them. Every attempt to clear, draw over etc has failed. from a very grateful member about to go on holiday and I need this to work for use on hols.
The private sub resetting() does not work but I cannot see why.

How can I check if the data in a drag'n'drop event originates from the same component?I've created a component containing two ListViews and the ability to drag'ndrop between them. The problem occurs when a progrem uses more than one of these components, it is possible to drag from one component to another, I don't want that to be possible.[code]I thought the "And (m_DragSource Is lviewSelection Or m_DragSource Is lviewSelected)" in the first if would prevent dropping from other components but it doesn't. How to do this?

Im wondering how best to create my graphics device. It seems that traditionally in applications that use directx, the graphics device is almost always a new windows form (from the examples ive seen). However, im looking at something different in my application.I have a windows form with a ToolStripContainer that has been subdivided into several other panels using SplitContainer objects So as you can imagine, i have quite a lot of panels on the screen. I want to render my graphics in one of these SplitContainerPanels. My concern is whether this will result in poorer performance or excessive flickering etc.

I have a panel that has a BackgroundImage set to "zoom". Because of this, the image usually has some grey "letterboxing" showing the panel beneath the BackgroundImage. I want to paint on the Graphics Object of the Panel using its paint event handler. Is there a way to contrain my painting to just the image part of the panel? Is there a way to find the rectangle that the BackgroundImage is occupying within the panel?
P.S. I don't want to make a graphics object from the BackgroundImage because I'm already using that for some other "paint layers".

I need to disable a button after its pressed so the user does not have the ability to click it again as this would replicate the process in some cases. After alot of searching I found some tips - alot of code I found I could not understand. This is what I have come up with:
[code]...
I also read somewhere that I should use: System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000) to delay the process or something - not entirely sure why I would do this though.Although, the problem with my above code is that when the code behind page performs validation checks, it exits sub before executing my INSERT SQL code - so when it does this it also disables the button.I am not entirely sure if the above method is fool proof or whether it is a **** piece of code that won't work 100% of the time.On another website I found a script to put on the actual HTML page with <script> tags:
[code]...
But although this works, it does not execute my VB code in the code behind page so I am a little confused where to go here.

I've got an app that I want to have an MDI with. It functions fine, but there needs to be a control panel off to the side of it to drive the child documents' creation. I have two problems with this.
First, if I add the control panel to the side of the form, it just overlays the MDI portion of the form and the children will spawn behind it. I can more or less manage the positions of these children, but the problem comes when I want to minimize the children, they minimize behind the control panel and I don't know how to move them. So I need to shrink the area they can move around in. I've read in places that you can use the splitter object, but that never seems to cooperate with me and only wants to move to the extreme left or right of the parent form. How can I reduce the area the children get to interact with? I've tried creating a MDI Panel, but VS has a fit with that.
Second, I've got a datagridview holding the data that will spawn the child forms. This is working well, but even though I've set the rows to be not resizeable, I can still make them grow or shrink during run-time (not programmatically). How do I stop this?

I would like to add an effect where a panel sweeps out of the way to make room for another panel. This is sort of like a sliding effect, and I think at one point in time this could be seen on Apple's website under their product pages. I came up with some code, but it isn't working.

When a user is editing a given piece of data, they're allowed to add messages/comments. These are stored as child records in a SQL database. Clicking on the Add Message button brings up a panel (pnlMessage) courtesy of the AJAX ModalPopup Extender. This takes some input and, when the "Send Message" button in the panel is clicked (I learned the hard way to NOT make that the 'OkButton' property), the message is stored in the database and an email is sent to the intended recipients. No problem there.
However, I need to be able to allow the user to add new email addresses (so long as they are registered in our database). I have another ModalPopup / panel combo (pnlSearch) that's tied to a button on the previous panel (pnlMessage).
The user is supposed to be able to add an email or click on a search button to populate a list to choose from.
The pop-up panel (pnlSearch) comes up just fine, but clicking the "Lookup" button (which instigates the search and returns a collection of records that the user is supposed to pick from) closes the panel.
Previously, I ran into the problem of having the Button.Click event never firing when I put the Button into the "OkControlID" property (the CancelControlID works fine since I don't want to do anything). Removing the "OkControlID=Button" line allowed it to work perfectly with the Button.Click event firing as expected.
So now I have the Search panel with a button for "OK" and a button for "Search" - but the panel should stay up and visible after the Search.Click does it's thing. Am I missing some property that basically says "don't close the panel when this button is clicked"? Of course, if I bring up the panel again in the same session, the results from the previous effort are there (the search results).

I'm working on a visual studio 2008 VB.Net project (.net framework 2.0), and am having some trouble with the Panel control using a fixedsingle border. As a small example of the problem, suppose I have one Panel2 contained inside of Panel1. If the Left position of panel2 is set to 0 (meaning it's border is up against the left edge of Panel1), the left border will show as bold, and slightly indented.
<Global.Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.DesignerGenerated()> _
Partial Class Form1
Inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form[code].....
What I'd like to see is just a single line, not bold or indented, where the two panels borders are equal. Is there a property or custom paint technique I could use to achieve this behavior?

We have a GIS application that has some performance issues. It creates and sends an image to a web browser. We start with a Bing Maps imager, add complex polygons (complete with transparent fill), save the finished image as a PNG, and send it to the browser.
The idea has come up that we could possibly install a graphics card and use DirectX or OpenGL to improve performance. I believe this would be the case even though we ultimately generate an image instead of sending the data the the screen. I believe our processes could still make use of the API and the hardware acceleration it provides. Our process is not unlike what CGI film makers do to render individuals frames of a film, though we simply render a single image and send it, as opposed to the hundreds of thousands of images needed for a single CGI film.
So my question is: would a powerful graphics card and use of DirectDraw or OpenGL provide us a worthwhile performance boost? It can take us 20-30 seconds to render a more complex map. Which is a long time to wait on a web page...

I used to program with Visual Basic 6, so I have alot of old programs that I'm updating, plus I'm learning the new VB2008 methods. I'm writing a program that replaces the old "BitBlit" function which is no longer supported by Visual Basic 2008. It involves three picture boxes, one holds the sprite bitmap, a second holds the mask (silhouette) of the sprite bitmap, and a third has a background image.
