Right, I'm making a program where the user enters a number in both boxes which is between -10 and +10, and when they press the = button, it adds the two numbers together. If the user enters a number which is not between -10 and +10, an error message appears which warns the user of this.At the moment, it's not quite working for me. If I enter a number outside of this range in either or both of the boxes, it brings up a warning box, but once I click 'OK' in that window, another window is brought up with the answer to the calculation. In fact, even if I enter a number which is between -10 and +10, the error message still appears when I click on the '=' button and then the other window has the answer to the calculation.[code]
I have my own control which inherit System.Windows.Forms.Control The only functionality that this control requires is the capability of losing and gaining focus. I learned this requires the control style of selectable to be applied which is descriptive as exactly what I'm in need of, "If true, the control can receive focus.".
However after applying this style in my code, the control still refuses to have anything to do with gaining or losing focus. Other styles I have applied to this particular control are as fallowed UserPaint, AllPaintingInWmPaint, and SupportsTransparentBackColor. I'm not sure but perhaps one of these other styles interferes with the one that's not working properly.
First of all i want to say i feel very rude as my current posts only consist of me asking questions and never posting to give answers. im still learning and do not want to give people diff advice and sending them down the wrong path.I am doing an assignment for my vb.net course and im having a problem with tabcontrol. I originally didnt do my code inside a tab control. Then i had to copy all the code and button etc over to the tab control then the code completely stopped working. I copied the code then deleted it and pasted it back into my project and it worked again. But it seems everytime i restart my laptop the code stops functioning and i need to copy delete then paste to get it working again!I need to hand this assignment in shortly and i dont want to if my code is working intermittantly..
I am making a program that NEEDS to be password protected, so i made a textbox with a code so that when the user enters the right password it lets you in. But if the user/person enters a wrong password 2X it will kick you out. So is there a way to keep the
I wrote this VB program to be able to throw a device we developed into programming mode where we use an ATMEL Flip installer to upload new firmware. I can program one device after another running the application off of Visual Studio Express 2010 or Visual Studio 2010, but when I go to publish this file and run it on another machine, it becomes unstable and crashes after each upload. On those same computers if I run the raw unpackaged program under Visual Studio Express, the system does not crash, and I can program devices repeatedly.
Dim IncomingCommand As String = e.CommandLine.Item(0).ToString
If IncomingCommand.Substring(0, 2) = "-1" Then
form1.close()
End If
End If
I am trying to make the program close if the -1 string is sent with the program. See my installer allows for me to run certain programs before it actually installs, but it doesn't shut down copies of the program itself. So I have a next startup instance set to shut the program down if the -1 is received. But if the program is not running it starts up instead. This is not desired. form1.close doesn't work. e.cancel = true doesn't work, etc etc. What can I do to make the program not start during this instance.
Ok major problem with a paint program i am making. When i have a window overlap or anything and move to side of screen and minimize and maximize i lose whats in the picturebox...Here is an example of the code I use to draw a line after click a button:

how i can write a program to create a shortcut in the startup folder of a different program. So i have one program on my computer that should run at startup, i just need another program to create a shortcut to it, and then copy this shortcut into the startup folder.
I've been working on a program that generates a batch file, then when you press a button, it executes that batch file. There are multiple batch files attached to each item in the list box.
[code]...
The only thing that it does when I press the button, is starts the batch file, then goes to function searchtitle, which executes the batch file again when it finds out it didn't work properly. The button text doesn't change, none of the items are being added to my first list box, and I can't do anything to the window after pressing the button. It constantly opens the batch file every 5 seconds or so.
How can you add a image where when you double click on the icon and the program starts it shows a picture before the program loads. Like Photoshop startup or the new 2010 visual Basic express start up
I have a procedure at the end of my console application that ask the user to either hit enter to end the program, or type s to perform another search. The issue I'm having is no matter what the user types in the program end. What I would like to happen is if the user types s, then the program starts over and lets the user perform another search. The program is procedural and I need to find a way to start back off at the top of the program which ask the user to type a name to search.
Anyway, I'm a teacher and am writing a program that simply shows kids a word on a flashcard. There are 2 buttons, 1 to read the word and 1 to go to a new work. There are going to be 300 words. Really I'm just testing it right here. What I want to know is should I be inputting all the words right into the code like I did with "hi" and "not 1" (Don't ask. those are just the 2 random words I picked to test this out with). OR is there a better way (maybe somehow to type all the words on a text file and have the program randomly pull one of them (I don't know how to do this).
Here is the code so far:
Public Class Form1 Dim word Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
In class i saved my program in with load of other test programs for the same assignment and got everything mixed up i finally figured out what was what and loaded the program in Visual Basic. Now my program doesn't recognize one of my forms when i try to access the design view of it. I hit run for the hell of it and the program runs with errors of course but the form1 "the missing one" shows up with all the buttons etc and i can use it.
I made vb.net program for 1440x900 resolution, if i run my program on 800x600 or 1024x768, my program's resolution is bigger then windows, so i have problem with resolution. Now i want to change my program's size and i am interested in, wich resolution is correct to make program, 800x600 such as minimum?
The program allows users to insert Documents along with a bunch of their attributes into the program. The documents are stored in a relational database. One of the required functionalities is allowing the user to look for such documents. The User normally search directly for the obvious attributes of the document, like a unique ID, or it's Title. The problem is that from the search parameters is not allways known which ones will the user fill. For example the user inserts the name and version of the deocument, another time the user enters part of the Title and the person that delivered the document, or might just enter the document number and nothing else. Some of the data might even be incomplete, like title, name of the person who created the document and so on. The idea from the person who designed the system (I'm only reimplementing it) was to allow easier searches for the user, and allowing the user to search for more parameters tod with the idea that "the more parameters, the more specific results", since the results are always group of documents instead of single documents.
I have a program where a lot of the required information for it is stored in text files. I simply read this information into large arrays. However, I don't think it's necessary to load all the information each time. Rather, it would be more efficient if I could simply search through a list of items to find the one I need and then use the data from it, or to find a similar name and use it elsewhere.
Would I be right in using a database? And is database programming done in SQL? I have a book on it telling me to use the SQL Server (IIRC), so I shouldn't be doing it in the VB.NET Express GUI?
Here's an example of what I would do:
Hex = 03 00 => dex number 003 Search in file Pokemon Dex Numbers 003 returns Bulbasaur Check Bulbasaur base stats in the base stats file etc
So basically I'm reusing a lot of information. I think a database would be best and it would all be internal right? I'm getting complaints about access denied to a text file (since it's stored in the program directory in the program files).
So to cap up the few questions I have:
-Databases are done in SQL and not inside the GUI? -Databases would load internally? -I could search a database without having to load it into like an array or something?
I am really confused! My program doesn't work if I don't have Visual Studio here in my PC. To test it I have uninstalled Visual Studio. But my program doesn't work though Flash Player is present there (I have used Flash animation in the first form).
To be more sure about it I have installed Flash. But it's not working! That means the Flash animation file (.swf) is not making a problem! It needs support from Visual Studio to start. Doesn't it mean that some files are not attached with a setup file as a result it needs Visual Studio to run? Let me tell you how I create a setup file of my program.

I am making a program which generates a random number between 1 and 10 and when 7 appears it is suppose to tell you how many tries it took to get the number 7 and then end the application. This is the code I have used:
