I have been doing occassional VB.NET for a few years but never had the need to do something like this until today. My app creates a few comboboxes during runtime, and I need a way to assign the values of those textboxes at design time.
View 9 RepliesEDIT: See thread at [URL] I've had a look around and I can't quite make sense of trying to get the last write time of a registry key in vb.net. Im a bit of a beginner in vb.net but I really have done an exhaustive search and cant find anything I can make any sense of. I can open subkeys and get values using .GetValue("ValueName"), but as last write time isnt a value inside the key, this doesn't here.
I have had a look around and it seems in VB6 RegOpenKeyEx was used (to open the key and get a handle), then RegQueryInfoKey was used to get the last write time (of the subkey via its handle) BUT i cant get this to work. I have tried entering the following

I am trying to retrieve an excel chart (created out of .net), which i have earlier copied to the clipboard. As long as I work with type bitmap I can copy/retrieve it as follows:
Code:' copy to clipboard (in .net)charts.CopyPicture(Office.XlPictureAppearance.xlScreen, Office.XlCopyPictureFormat.xlBitmap)
' retrieve it againimgImage=Clipboard.GetDataObject.GetData(DataFormats.Bitmap)
Unfortunately, the quality of the bitmap is rather bad, thus I would like to copy it as a Metafile. The copying works, but the retrieving will only return Nothing.
Code:' copy to clipboard (in .net)charts.CopyPicture(Office.XlPictureAppearance.xlScreen, Office.XlCopyPictureFormat.xlPicture)
' retrieve it againimgImage=Clipboard.GetDataObject.GetData(DataFormats.MetaFilePict) ' returns Nothing!
I have checked if the object is available in the clipboard using GetDataPresent and it shows that there is a metafile available. Still, it returns nothing. On a side note: Is there a way to avoid using the clipboard? After all I am creating the charts in .NET and I need them there as well. Could I access the image of the chartobject directly?

I am able to add those originally on the form into the array very easily. But am unable to add the newly created textboxes into the array.
Here is my code so far below.

The code below is a very simplified version of what I'm trying to write in VB2010.BuildPictureBoxes() builds a column of 40 PictureBoxes at the left of Form1,while LoadPictureBoxes() fills the boxes with a set of green bars.if there are no other controls on Form1, the code does what I expect (builds and fills boxes). On the other hand, if I add, say, a TextBox at design time, then it throws an exception:[code]I understand what the exception means, but not the reason for it. Apparently, the way that I've set up the For loop in LoadPictures doesn't differentiate between a TextBox and a PictureBox. I don't understand why, nor do I understand how to code the loop.I've searched forums and tried any number of ways to write the loop, but nothing that I've tried is free of errors. Clearly, I'm overlooking something simple. I'm not asking for code, because I don't learn anything that way. [code]

I have a datetimepicker but the custom format is set to HH:mm tt so that I can get eg 11:20 AM
this value I have stored in database with the help of Label4.Text = DateTimePicker3.Value.ToShortTimeString.
In a typical session with the program I'm writing, the user needs to be able to access the data in 1 to 500 (maybe) tables (but always only one table at a time). Up to now I've been creating these single table datasets dynamically, as and when required.I've now come across the distinction between typed and untyped datasets (where typed seems to be the recommended option). It seems, though, that typed datasets are created at design time only and not dynamically. Is this correct? Are all of my dynamically created datasets therefore untyped?
