Returning The Exact Date Difference Without Using DateDiff?

I need to return the exact difference between two dates in the form of a string. If the dates are 01-FEB-2012 and 01-FEB-2014, the function should return "2 years" If the dates are 01-FEB-2012 and 01-MAR-2014, the function should return "25 months". If the difference is not in exact years or months, it should return the difference in days. I do not want to use DateDiff from the Visual Basic namespace so the code is portable to C#.

Is it possible to use DateDiff to find the difference between time?I have two time periods i.e. 05:00 and 05:10pm so i would like to run some code if the time is between the two specified periods. Ive searched around and i think DateDiff could do this but unsure?

One of the problems with datediff function is that even if the two dates are 31-12-2011 and 01-01-2012,it will show the difference as 1 year.How to overcome this problem?

I'm using datediff to establish difference between two dates using datetimepicker.i.m nnot getting the right results. a one day difference returns a 0, a two day difference returns a 1 etc. the code I am using is posted below.

How can we handle the case where one date is blank in DateDiff method? Example:

I'm trying to get an If statement to check is the date picked from a datetimepicker is at least 3 days prior to the current date, I can get it to calculate the difference however if I chose a date that 4 days prior to the current date (i.e the result being -4), the else statement doesnt fire.is this something to do with the result being a negative value? I did try to assign the DateDiff result to a variable defined as a short and then used this variable in the If statement, but still get the same issue. Option Strict isn't showing any issues.

I want to make a little program that will count down the hours to a specific date. I.E. "Hours until: ##/##/##"
Like they do for new year and other big events in the world or whatever but I'm having big problems. I don't know how to use datediff to compare the difference in hours from 1 date to the next.

Let's say I have two date values, date1 and date2. date1 stores the date today, and date2 is the result when I subtract 7 days from the date today. Is there any function in VB that makes me get the exact date of the day after I subtract 7 days from it? (ex: if today is 1/22, the output once I subtract 7 days from the date today would be 1/15)

I am pulling a date value from my database:
Dim qfresho = From p In dbConfig.Configs _
Where p.Description = "FROD" _

Then comparing these date values to the current date:

But for some reason its always returning the Else condition - even though the values in the database should make the query true. I'm guessing for some reason its not pulling the results as a date?

I have a date value (e.g. 2011-04-11 07:45:00.000) which I am pulling from my database (via Entity Framework). I need to pull out only the hour from the original date value (e.g. 07:45:00), get the current time, and then subtract the current time from the database time value. Ok so i have a date time picker that holds a date that was entered by a user. My program works fine when ran on a computer using English(US) regional settings, but when i take it to a computer running any other regional settings, I.E. English(UK), which is the 2nd most common regional settings that will find its way to this program, I recieve an error because the Date format is backwards. What i'm curious about is how can i grab the system Regional Date format in order to rearrange my Date to fix its context?
I know that since the date is stored as a string i'm going to do something along the lines of this to break it apart:

inputarray(7) = temp(1) & "/" & temp(0) & "/" & temp(2)
i am almost 100% sure the above code will take a date in MM/DD/YYYY format and rearrange it to DD/MM/YYYY format.

In VB2005 I am trying to calculate the number of business days between two dates. I must also account for U.S. holidays (New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day/Friday after, Christmas Day). If a holiday falls on a Saturday, then the prior day (Friday) is assumed to be a holiday. Likewise, if the holiday falls on a Sunday then the following day (Monday) is assumed to be a holiday.
