SQL Server Values Are Changed Only While Program Is Running?
Jun 18, 2012
im currently working with an SQL Server 2008 database and im trying to change values in the database usign visual basic. The following code runs correctly and I have tested changing passwords and have been able to logoff and then back on again using the new password. The problem i am facing is that as soon as the application exits the database returns to its origional values so the next time i run the program the passwords are back to the old values.

I'm basically trying to implement the functionality of the example here ax/grid/examples/dataediting/editondblclick/defaultvb.aspx) on my own site, but instead of using a data source control located in the page markup (like in the example: essionDataSource), I'm using a dataset that I get from some server code-behind. I am able to successfully get my double-clicked row into edit mode with my dropdowns successfully

I have a running program which is installed in the server side and this program is running 24hrs a day. Now I made some enhncements on this program and would like to publish it. I tried to publish first in my local disk but after publishing Im having some errors "Critical error: Required processing file is missing" after clicking the setup.exe file. Now Im thinking of publishing this directly to my server. If I publish it directly to my server would it disrupt the running program? is it safe to do that? or is there something that I need to do it first?

I'm basically putting some validation logic around an undo button on my form and i'd like to check whether any fields on the form have had their values changed so i can ask the question "abandon changes?". This seems like something pretty standard to me but I can not see how to check whether a value has had its contents changed (without recording a before value and comparing it to the after value which for large forms would be quite horrendous to code).
In the language i used to use we used to walk the object tree (so we dont have to specify each object individually like text box, combo box etc) and check any object that have value-changed = yes to indicate the validation was required.

I am using a class to track if a user cleared their personal information found within some text boxes on a form. In the button click event to clear the text boxes I am creating a new object to the class and assigning true to one property value. Sounds simple until I try and submit the form with a different button, and create a another object reference that I use in an IF statement to check the property value for true. Every time the statement fails because the value being returned from the getter in my class is false.

I am using oracle database and i already created a connection and retrieved data from my oracle DB to Datagridview using oledb commands, now my major challenge which has gotten me sick is to update any changes made in the datagridview to the oracle database. I tried using sqlcommandbuilder but failed. This code is what i used to retrieved the data from oracle and place it into the datagridview.
These are my declarations i made at the beginning of the form:
Private myDA As OleDbDataAdapter
Private myDataSet As DataSet
These are the codes inside the search button to load the retrieved data from oracle into the datagridview
Public con As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection("Provider=MSDAORA.1;User ID=SYSTEM; Password=simon; database=project")

I've been trying to make a login system for my application. Which seems to work, but when I try to connect to the database itself, it won't work. I used this code to check the exception:
Catch myex As MySqlException
MsgBox(myex.Message)
That gives this exception:
"Acces denied for user '[my db user]'@'[My IP-Address]' (Using Password: YES)"
The code I use for the connection is:
Dim Connection As New MySqlConnection("server=[The SERVER IP]; user id=[DATABASE USER]; password=[DB USER PW]; port=3306; database=[DB NAME]; pooling=false")
Connection.Open()
MsgBox("Connected")
As you can see, I've tried to change the 'server' part, but it won't affect anything. It will just say my ip address (localhost, I assume) in the exception. Telling me that it couldn't connect to it. Which is not even what I'm wanting to do.

I have been working on a project. In this project I wish to be able to create electronic signatures. I have perfected the signing routine and also creating the memory astream and saving and retrieving an image. The problem comes in when I retrieve the image from the database. The image being saved does not capture the signature (the changes I've made to the picturebox)
1. I load a small bmp as the template on where to sign with by setting the picturebox.imagelocation to a network share
2. Using mousemove and mouseclick, and draw events I draw a signature on top of the picture box
3. I picturebox.image.save(memorystream) the picture box to a sql server from a button click event.
4. When I retrieve the saved image there are no edits (No signature) only the original image. I am sure that the original image is going in and that it is coming out every time.
My question is thus: How can I capture the signature that I have edited into the picture box. I have tried picturebox.save like I mentioned above and I have tried picturebox.update() but without success. Does anyone know what I missing I think that the answer lies in refreshing or updating the picturebox, but I'm not sure how.

I work at a school that utilizes several servers in our network. I wrote a program for a class I was teaching and then they changed the servers so there is a new path to the different components. When I test each component it works correctly but when I try to utilize the menu it utilizes the old path and the programs wont operateSteve.

I have a strange problem that I can't seem to find any answers on. I wrote two programs in VB2010. Both work great, install and uninstall no problem and I have done this on 4-5 PC's and laptops, all running Win7. A friend saw them and asked if he could use the programs, but when he installed them neither of them would work. All the prereq's were there and he is also running Win7. For some reason all of a sudden his enlarged font reset itself and VIOLA! both programs started working. I have retested this and it fails/works every time.
So my question is, how do I fix this or is it fixable? Is there somewhere in VB where this has to be set to be 'flexible'??

I would like to make the option available that my program can be changed in another language.
A simple solution would be a checkbox on my form which you can click on to change to language X or Y.
Does anyone have the code for this or can point me in the right direction ?

I had every one of these words in arabic transcribed on a dictionary I made with visual basic. There was never a problem until I started using window vista. I had xp. You can see that the words arabic script is incorrect. Somehow the first and last position of the two symbols are reversed...How did this happen. My Arabic Dictionary was completed 3 years ago. I have never had a problem before with this program. Now I will have to do the entire program over agian. From scratch....

ﺮﻔﺻﺃ[aSfar] yellow

I changed my Username on my computer from i.e. "xxxxxx x xxxxx" to "Dennis"
VB 2008 during a compile gave me the following error: Error reading icon 'C:Usersxxxxxx x xxxxxAppDataRoamingMicrosoftVBExpress9.0VSProjectApplication.ico' -- The system cannot find the path specified.
The file "VSProjectApplication.ico" is in 'C:UsersDennisAppDataRoamingMicrosoftVBExpress9.0'
Somewhere in the VB2008 "configuration" files I believe that I need to manually change the old path to the new path.
I found the old path in the ".suo" file. The ".suo" file is not a text file. How can I edit the .suo file, save it so that it will work?

on my Form I have a DataViewGrid and some textboxes with a save button (they are filled with additional data of the selected row).Save is disabled first, when I change something in the textboxes the save button is enabled. When the user changes a gow in the grid, I want to ask before changing the grid row, if he wants to save (if the button is enabled).I am using RowEnter but this is too late, then the selected row already changed (and my textboxes already got new data)...What event can I use to ask if I should save stuff before the user changes a row?Something like BeforeRowChanging with a chance to cancel changing the row?

I wrote this VB program to be able to throw a device we developed into programming mode where we use an ATMEL Flip installer to upload new firmware. I can program one device after another running the application off of Visual Studio Express 2010 or Visual Studio 2010, but when I go to publish this file and run it on another machine, it becomes unstable and crashes after each upload. On those same computers if I run the raw unpackaged program under Visual Studio Express, the system does not crash, and I can program devices repeatedly.

I am using the BackgroundWorker to do the heavy tasks so the UI thread doesn't get blocked. While the BackgroundWorker can send values to the UI thread using the progress-scheme, how can the BackgroundWorker get some values FROM the UI thread?
Either by asking it or simply by the UI thread sending some values to the BackgroundWorker?
Just accessing a variable of the UI thread like UIForm.x within the BackgroundWorker does not work, it does not seem to have access to the UI variables?
