I have a combo box on a form. I have a SelectedIndexChanged event, that displays a message box when the combo box has another item from it selected. This works fine. However when the form is loaded, I initially want to set the current drop down box item from the database, then AFTER I have set the current value, I want this event to work. Problem is from the get go when the form loads it asks me the question as its being changed from 'no data' to then be populated with a bunch of data and an item selected.

when the user clicks on the add button another form launches, which enables the user to add student info such as name, address, course, start date and end date, this information is then written to class when the ok button on that form is clicked, and then displays the data on the initial form in data grid. the user can add multiple entries and they are all displayed on the intial form and a the data grid is populatedwhen any of the rows in the displayed grid is selected, and the update button is clicked then the same form launches as the previous one and but this time its in the update mode and pre populates the form with the inital values.

View 1 RepliesI am coding a program for a movie trivia game that randomly shows a movie quote and the the user selects a movie name from a combo box that matches. I used a array for the movie quotes and a comboBox for the movie names. I have coded a portion of the program but I am stuck on how to compare the array quote being shown to what movie the user selects from the comboBox. I have tried numerous different things but none seem to work right. The way I have it coded now it shows that every movie I pick that it is right even if it is wrong. Alright, so I'm still working on the slot machine. I have three timers all independently going for my three "wheels" of the slot machine.
My issue, is that I'm trying to make a Stop button to stop each timer one at a time, and I'm not understanding why this code isn't working. The logic completely makes sense, and the first "wheel" stops when I click the button, however, it doesnt appear to stop the other two timers.

I have a class. In that class is a readonly property the returns a List(Of T) in the class. I dont want that list to be changed. I understand that readonly only actually applies to the pointer and not the object being pointed to. That's fine. But how do I stop people from changing the list?

I have datagridview with XSD as the binding source (i configured it with the smart tags). After build, the dgv change its columnIndex which surely result error of my code.
For example
columnIndex(0) = idEmployee (dataGridViewTextBoxColumn)
columnIndex(1) = name (dataGridViewTextBoxColumn)
columnIndex(2) = status (dataGridViewCheckBoxColumn)
suddenly, the columnIndex(2) moved into columnIndex(0)
i have problem for the drop down list in the grid view, it not fire the select index changed. I bind the data for the drop down list when the row databound. The code works until it gets to the last item if there is only one item in the dropdown box it does not populate the text boxes, if I loop through the code it is going to the droplist index change but it goes from dr.Read() and just jumps to dr.close() without populating the text boxes?
In vb.net using Data Reader while selecting an value in combobox should display an selected value record from the database into textbox.

When a user using my application clicks on a row in the grid, a triangle appears in a column on the left of the grid indicating the selected row. However, if the user does nothing, after several minutes, the selected row changes to the first row in the grid and the triangle indicating the selected row moves to the first row.

I am writing an application that on first time run checks if a user is in a database. If the user exists it closes itself.I was wondering if I could pre load in vb .net a current or up to date query from the database. That way I dont have to open that initial connection to the DB.

I'm thinking creating the basic building blocks in Word 2010 would be the easiest and it would also be easy to manage in the future. I would like to create a WinForm and use some check boxes to select which items to be in the document and then have a document created from that.
I would also add some specific text using bookmarks in Word (names, address, etc..). My general thought is create several word documents as the basic building blocks that would then be merged/combined/stitched into one single document (dependent upon what has been selected), that would then be saved as a .docx and/or a pdf.
The general format would be "blurb A - product 1, product 2, ect.. - system specs". I have 14 basic blocks of information with a title, paragraph, and image. Generally each product is about 1-5 paragraphs and takes up a whole page or half a page in Word. I have never worked with a Word document via VB.NET VS2010 Pro and Office 2010.

View model base has an ObservableCollection of tabs type ViewModelBase. The Tab Control itself is binding fine to these, displaying appropriate view models. I have 2 problems however, I want a "NotepadView" (Of type viewmodelbase) to be replicated numerous times (one view many view models).
At the minute, I have 4 views (NotePadViewModelx where x is 1-4) with corresponding viewmodels, this is because each view had the same text per tab. Now I have individual views per tab.
When I type into tab 1 and switch to tab 2, I lose what I typed in tab one when I click back.
I have a blank winform. A textbox control with name textbox1 being added to the winform. During the form load event, I retrieve 2 string values from database and store these values into TextboxName and TextboxValue variables of string type.
I use TextboxName variable to store that textbox control name (i.e. currently TextboxName = "textbox1") and TextboxValue variable to store that textbox's text (i.e. currently TextboxValue = "Hello world"). My question is how to set the textbox1.text property without have to resort to following code:

My vb.net app ORDER is at d:myapporder. I created a setup project named it as ordersetup in the same solution file. Once I moved ORDER to e:myapporder, ordersetup can not load any more. How to fix it?
