VS 2008 Draw Rectangles, Then Putting Them In VARIABLES?
May 16, 2009I don't really know how to explain this except that I want to draw a bunch of rectangles in a LOOP, then I want each rectangle to be put into an array. To be more specific as alot of people keep telling me to be....I am making a robot, that can move left or right from below the screen, the robot is a rectangle with a barrel in the middle of it. The robot can shoot bullets, but as I understand I have to draw the bullets from the code. So far I have the functions written down to get started and I have tried all the drawing methods, and none of them will do what I want.

VS 2008 Loading A Variables From A Structure In A File?
Apr 21, 2009Im trying to load a price of an item from a prices file (Items). The variable (ItemName) is taken from a listox populated from the file on another form. And (Item) is the structure which i saved the prices information for into (Items).
What im trying to do is take the string from the listbox and change the textbox (txtCurrentPrice) text into the price for the highlighted item, which is also the name of the (txtItem) textbox.
However i cant find a way to reference the Item.(ItemName) to get the correct price from within the file, as ItemName isnt a member of the Items structure Item instance.

ItemName holds the name of one of the variables saved in the structure. So say if ItemName was holding "IridescentRoll" As its string I would be trying to find Item.IridescentRoll, which would show me the price of IridescentRoll which im trying to put into the textbox. and As Item.IridescentRoll = 3.35 it would display 3.35 in the textbox.
As you have probably guessed, the Item.ItemName doesnt work ('ItemName is not a member of...'
Is there any way to write this without having to create a new record for each item? As that would take a while, and im not sure i have the time x.X

Dec 11, 2011Last year (2010) I came across a FANTASTIC command that allowed me to take a string of variables with a common delimiter and break it all back out into separate variables (possibly an array) with one statement.

As long as the delimiter was a unique specifiable character, this one-statement command could break it out into elements. my memory and point me in the right direction.
VS 2008 Saving And Loading Variables To And From A Text File?

I am pretty good with visual basic and visual studio, but the one problem I have is saving... I am currently creating a game, and it has a lot of variables, I want o be able to save all those variables to a text file and then re-open it later. When it is open, i want the variables to have the original value from the text document.
To sum it up: I need variables to be saved in a text file, and then be able to open the text file back and have the variables have the proper values from the text file.
I have been searching around google, and I found ideas, but I have no idea how to use them. Like using XML or saving a table with " TextFile.WriteFromTable" "TextFile.ReadToTable" but I don't exactly get how to use those (the posts weren't too clear)

So for example. (this is part of my script)

Putting Up Conditionals For Splitting A Text File?
Apr 27, 2009I have I text tab delimited file. in every line of that file at the same position in every row of the file I will have a bit that I would want to compare against 23 values (I will call them criteria). So if on every row the string I need matches one of tjhese values then that row will be written in File1.Txt if that value doesn`t match any of the criteria the whole row will be sent to File2.txt.
So far managed to get the original file written in the same format in a newly created file.
how to get the functionality I described working but am stuck with correct syntax.
Here is what I have so far:

If you look at the "For" line, you can see that pulling all files with an extension of .txt. There are some files that I need to pul with different extensions. I tried just doing "*.", and it would grab the files with not extension, but not the txt extension.
So, I wanted to know if there was some way to just pull all files or specify more than one extension.

Oct 13, 2009OK, SO i have this program that outputs all the servers on a specific game. It outputs it to a text file. HOWEVER, There is a lot of annoying spaces. This is kind of hard to explain, so ill try to explain it. This is what The text file looks like. [Code]
As you can see, they have these annoying spaces. What I want to do: 1. Get rid of the spaces, BUT KEEP A SPACE BETWEEN THE IP AND THE PORT. 2. After the spaces that are bad are gone, I want the program to output each single IP AND port To its own text Box. It doesn't matter is the textbox of the IP and Port are separated, It can just be one textbox with the IP and port, with a space between them. Thats about it. I have the GUI done, and the rest of the programming, all I need now is this. Reformat without spaces > output each separate line of text to a separate textbox > TYTYTYTY
PS, is there a way for VB to send a command to the command prompt? Say, I wanted it to open a CMD box and send ipconfig into that box, what would that be?

Private list1 as List(Of string)[code].....
But I found that after this form is closed, all above variables, var1, list1, list2 still exist in memory. I thought they should be collected by gc since the form is already disposed as I confirmed.
Add: I have monitored half an hour after the form is closed. But these variables are not collected by gc. I have an automatic update procedure on the form which uses above variables.Since the above variables still hold values, the automatic update procedure is always called which causes exception. (One quick fix is to check if form.isDisposed in update procedure. But I do not think this is elegeant. Besides, these variables occupy memory.)
