VS 2010 - Debug - Code For A Payroll Calculator - Gives Me My Own Error Message Box
Feb 3, 2012
I have written the below code for a payroll calculator. When I run the program, it gives me my own error message box no matter if my number of hours fall within the 5-60 hours range as I have stipulated. Is there something wrong with my code? (well, obviously there is something wrong--I just cant find it!)
CODE:
'This program calculates the Gross and Net Pay as well as the Tax Deduction amount of an employee's wages when given the input of Employee Name, Tax Rate, Hours Worked, and Hourly Pay Rate.
I am trying to write code with IF statements for a payroll calculator. The first IF statement is getting a bit confusing. I have three text fields that I want to ensure have data before proceeding with the next set of code. This is the part I am not sure I am doing right.
IF IsNothing(txtHoursWorked.Text) OR IF IsNothing(txtEmpName.Text) OR IF IsNothing(txtHourlyPayRate.Text) Then
You need to design and create a program that accepts input of employee name, employee type, and the number of hours worked each week for two weeks. You must be able to select an employee type. An employee of type Trainee makes $10 per hour. An employee of type Regular makes $15 per hour. An employee of type Manager makes $20 per hour. The program should calculate the employees pay for the week. The employee should receive 1 times the regular pay for any hours worked over the prescribed 40 hours in a week. The program should output the following information:
Option Explicit On Public Class Form1 Private Sub GroupBox2_Enter(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
What code to use in a payroll calculator I am making. The requirements are 1. Name of employee. 2. number of hours worked 3. pay rate 4. percentage of state tax. 5. percentage of federal tax. 6. percentage of FICA tax. How I would go about this.
I posted this in the wrong part of the forums. Using visual basic 2008 and keep geting this message whenever I try and test this calculator program I've been mucking around with for the past 2 hours.
a. Level 1 - $10.00 b. Level 2 - $12.00 c. Level 3 - $14.00 d. Level 4 - $16.00 e. Benefit Deduction Rate - 0.10 f. Overtime Factor - 1.5
For ease of program maintenance, all of the above rates and factors must be stored in module level constants. All references to pay rates in the program must refer to the module level constants.
When the Calculate button is clicked:
a. The value in the Hours text box must be validated to insure that it is numeric value greater than zero.
1. If the value is not valid, a message box must appear as shown below and the user must be offered the option to continue processing or quit the program.
2. If the user chooses to continue processing, the focus must be set to the Hours text box.
3. If the user chooses to quit, the program must close immediately.
b. If the value is valid, the program must calculate and display the total pay in the Total Pay label.
1. The pay rate is determined by which Job Grade radio button is checked.
2. For hours less than or equal to 40, the total pay is the hours times the pay rate.
3. For hours greater than 40, the total pay is 40 hours times the pay rate plus the hours in excess of 40 hours times the pay rate times the Overtime Factor.
4. If the Full Time radio button is selected, the total pay must be reduced by the Benefit Deduction Rate.
5. The value displayed in the Total Pay label must be formatted with a dollar sign and with two decimal places.
6. The focus must be set to the Hours text box.
Why i get an error when i try to run this code
Code:
Also the message box, both yes and no close the program.....

The Problem that i am having right now is "Displaying " the overtime hours on my "FORM VIEW" i mean i did the math right its just when i type (lblOverHrs.Text = CDec(CDec(OvrHrsWrkWeek1.Text) + CDec(txtOvrHrsWrkWeek2.Text))
Its says the "OvrHrsWrkWeek1 and 2" are not Declared which are..im not really sure where i went wrong..
i am trying to indicate if the tax is at single rate (18%) or the family rate of (15%)This is what i got so far i could do the rest but just cant do the Mstatus part.
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim Name As String 'Name of employee Dim hrWage As Double 'Hourly wage Dim hrsWorked As Double'Hours worked this week
I am coding a simple calculator and I need the textbox to show the previous entries when I enter them. I hear the best way to do this is by Append Text? For example I click 3 Then + The textbox will show "3+" etcetera.
I'm having an issue trying to get a wage calculator to recognize an overtime formula. The calculator has to have the overall function of figuring the gross pay, Federal Tax Withheld (15%), and the net pay based on the hourly wage and hours worked for the week. The issue I am having is the wage * 1.5 entry (underlined) where it sates it is not an array or a method and cannot have an argument list. If anyone can take a look at this for me and guide me as to why this error keeps coming up and what I can do to make sure it doesn
When i try to save my program an error pops up telling me that it cannot debug because some sort of file is missing... While my other projects just work, and while i repeat the same steps (placing an entity like a button, coding it), it just shows that error. Its really strange!
I am working on a Visio Addin in VS2010 Professional and am looking for hot spots (specifically around a COM object) while debugging the application. I have found a number of profilers that can profile existing .NET applications, but none of which (that I have seen) support debugging. Further more, because this is a .NET add-in rather than a full standalone executable I'm not sure how they'd fair. [code] Has anyone found a profiler that can be used during a VS2010 debug session?
It's just a small calculator project so it's no big deal, but after I had built the project, I wanted to change the project name and all the file names that had that string in it (and all internal references to that string). I had played with this before and knew that it was asking for trouble but I thought, "What the hell, I'll try it again." feeling a bit brash.
Well, everything works fine in debug mode, but there is this DOS window that pops up just before the main form does, and it doesn't go away for the entire debugging session. I think I see that window pop up on all other projects too (if the main form doesn't cover it up completely), but normally, it's only there for a split second.
I'm getting the 403 Forbidden error while running a VS 2010 in debug mode. It gives me this error as it tries to read thru an XML File. See attachment. This is a web app and it's reading an XML file that retrieves the DB/Server information. It's not the Web.Config file but just a regular xml file. This file is read by every application in our system. Not sure why it suddenly started doing this. I've created the virtual directory on our IIS Server and set permissions on the C:inetpubwwwrootAppName directory of my C: drive where the app resides.
I've just installed Visual Studio 2010 Express on a new laptop running Windows 7 64 bit.
When I debug a VB project and an error is encountered a message is sent to the immediate window, but execution is not halted. This means I am unable to look at variables etc.
I am facing another error "An error occurred trying to load the page. Member not found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80020003 (DISP_E_MEMBERNOTFOUND) )" performing the following scenario:- Opened a sample VS 2010 WPF project that I receiveved from a co-worker (Project compiles, and run on his machine)I tried to open project properties (Project --> Properties)The project properties panel/window didn't open, all it had was an error symbol (red/white X) and the error message above(HRESULT: 0x80020003).I am unable to view niether the designer window nor the code window (no messages are reported) but the pane where the code/design shoud display is empty, all you can see is the background color.
Simple question that does not seem to be covered: If I use a lot of Debug.WriteLine statements in my code, will they be completely absent in my production version?
I mean: Is the compiler smart enough to not emit any code for those calls? Or would I have to surround them by #if DEBUG..#end if directives?
Im having an issue creating an error message for validation on a field. I have created the validation in Access and used ADO.net to connect to my VB form, but would like an error message to pop up when something is input incorrectly!

I have a functioning program that has been completed that based on miles and gallons used, both will display the individual MPG for each single entry as well as compile a total for the miles, gallons used and overall MPG at the bottom. My problem is that when 0 is entered for fuel, the MPG calculation says Infinity and 0 is placed in the gallonsUsedListBox.I've been trying to get the statement "Gallons must be greater than zero" into thegallonsUsedTextBox by utilizing an If..Then statement but to no avail. I'm not sure where to input it or if my avenue of using the If..Then statement is even on track. Here is the code I have:
Option Strict On ' MPG Average Public Class MPGAverage
