I've noticed that in C# XML comments and code comments can have different colors by changing the settings in Tools > Options > Environment > Fonts and Colors > Display Items:
- Comment: controls code comments XML comment: controls XML comments
This works well in C# <summary>This XML comment is green</summary>

I am getting the following compilation errors from Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express on the first line of my code:
Error 1 Newline in constant C: cdotnetdevsrcvbmain estHelper.vb 1 1 Component Sources
Error 2 Too many characters in character literal C: cdotnetdevsrcvbmainRtestHelper.vb 1 1 Component Sources
The first line of my code is simply:
' Copyright 2011
It is generating the same compilation error for all my comments. Does anyone know why MS VB Express 2010 is acting this weird? Comments in visual basic are supposed to start with a single apostrophe so I don't understand this weird behavior.
I have been asked, at very short notice of course, to implement exception logging to the Windows Application event Log in one of our products (vb.Net, framework 3.5, WinForms) using EntLib 5. In and of itself this is fine - I can get that working. However, this is for a client who wants messages in Chinese. Certain parts of the app have language resource files and I found a couple of sentences in my MS EntLib Developers Guide book which suggested that I could use an external resource to provide a localised 'friendly' message in a wrap handler within the Exception Handling Block.Unfortunately there was no mention of how to actually achieve this but it seemed straightforward enough. I added a new resource to a resx file which lives at the project level for the project which is common to all areas of the application and re-built to project so that the satellite assemblies were built. I then specified the name of the resource in the 'Message Resource Name' field within the EntLib configuration console. the problem arises when I try and specify the 'Message Resource Type'.
I clicked on the search button and found the satellite assembly I needed, but it did not get added to the list of loaded assemblies and therefore I couldn't select it. The problem is that none of the places where I've seen this feature mentioned actually demonstrate how to get it working so I'm not sure where I'm going wrong. The search for the assembly will only let me select a dll or exe so I assume I am supposed to reference the satellite assembly somehow but how do I do this if it won't add it to the list of loaded assemblies?One point to note is that we have a main executable which then calls numerous class libraries to load areas of functionality as required, and the config file we use throughout is the one which belongs to the main executable. Is it the case that you can only use satellite assemblies which are related to the assembly that the config file belongs to?
I have an field, Address2, which is optional. Thus if it is null, no validation rules apply. However, if a value exists, its length cannot be greater that 255 characters.
I have been toying with:
<StringLengthValidator(0, RangeBoundaryType.Inclusive, 255, RangeBoundaryType.Inclusive, MessageTemplate:="Address 2 can be between 0 and 255 characters in length.", Ruleset:="MyRules")> _
But if it's not present, I still get an error.
I found the source of the issue i did not explain it very well. Basically i have a form with a compare validator that makes sure my txtstartdate is not less than my txtenddate. So these 2 text boxes have ajax calendar attached to it and when I select those 2 my compare validator appears and gives an error.

View 1 RepliesI have 3 different validation groups on my web page, but when I click submit I want all of the groups to validate? It seems to me like the causesValidation="true" of the button will not validate the validators that are in their own validation group. So right now I am calling a javascript function that manually validates the groups.
[Code]...
Now this works fine and dandy... But it seemed to me like before I had all the groups on the page the validators where much faster than how it has to validate them now. Is there something special i have to do to my button to get all of the groups to fire when it is clicked without the help of this javascript function?
I have a form to register new users for my site and their are required field validators on the page.
I want to include a cancel button that redirects the form to the main page but unless the required field validatiors are satisfied it will not run the code when the cancel button is hit.
How can I have the code for the cancel button run even if the form is not fully filled out?
I get #Error in reportviewer when I use the following expression:

IPmt(Fields!Annual_Interest_Rate.Value/1200,
Fields!Payment.Value,

Fields!Total_Amount_Financed.Value),0)
When I remove the IPmt() function and use some static value instead, it works. Is there a way to find out the exact error ?

But it is bugging out at hasroom.Any() saying, "Input string was not in a correct format." Any thoughts on why? This is returning a collection of rows just like where I use this same code elsewhere without issue?
I've spent 2 days to figure this out, but no luck. I have an IIF expression what shows the correct value when the condition goes true (IPmt calculated), but the else always returns #error, although it should be just 0. =IIf(Fields!PaymentNumber.Value<>0,

I've been trying to get the UNC path for a mapped drive in a web application written in VB.net 2005. I was able to get this code working[code]...
I tested this code out in a test application - just a simple web page. But when I plug the code into my actual project, it doesn't work. In my testing of other examples, I figured out that WNetGetConnection returns a system error of 487 - ERROR_INVALID_ADDRESS. But I don't understand why it would work in my test application but not my actual project application.
In our code base there is a function which should return either an object or nothing. The exact code is this : Return NothingThe calling method looks something like thismyObj = theClass.function()if myObj <> nothing then // fails

Ok, here is the problem,in vbscript, i was reading parts of streams
i.e.
teststrid = left (strLine,8)
teststrnm =rtrim( mid (strLine,15,30))
teststrx = mid (strLine,57,8)
teststr = left (strLine,3)
strFormcode = left (strLine, 10)
strSymmetrycode = left (strLine,14)
strSigncode = left (strLine, 10)
Even in cases that strLine length was less than the index used to split the string, the program kept running.Now i am trying to do the same in VB.net, but since the strLine is not always bigger than the index used to break the string, it ives an error.I do not want to use try catch, because i will have very dirty and uselless code.
I was thinking something like resume next, but i guess it doesnt exist anymore.
I have a page in which one chooses from a selection of dynamically generated buttons. The ASPX code is as follows:
<div>
<asp:Repeater ID="rptrHalls" runat="server" OnItemCommand="Choose_Hall">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Button ID="btnChooseHall" runat="server"
[code]....
When I first tried running the code I received an error message of "Invalid postback/callback argument". I set the ASPX page to have a enableEventValidation="false" property and tried running it again. It generates the page fine but when I click on a dynamically generated button it acts as if it is loading something and then just brings me back to select_hall.aspx (the page all this code is one), when (as you can see above) it should take me to select_room.aspx.
<p>I cannot for the life of me figure out why the below code works when I fire it from my localhost but does not work when I publish it. I am unable to remote Debug </p><p>but it seems that I am getting Error 2250... I've tried searching for it but its too damned generic a code?</p><p> </p><p>All I want is the UNC, why is everything in .NEt so damned difficult?
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to update an Access database by using an OLE connection, retrieving the information from textboxes where the user enters the new information.All the fields in my Access table are required fields, so I have validated that some info is entered in each one of the textboxes and that is the correct data type.But when I run the update query I get an error message saying something like values haven't been entered for some required parameters (my Visual Studio is the Spanish version, so I can't give the exact error message in English).The bit of code where the error occurs is inside the procedure called by my "Ok" button:
Dim campo1, campo2, campo3, campo4, campo5 As String
Dim campo6, campo7, campo8 As Double
Dim campo9, campo10 As Integer
[code]....
(I didn't post the whole code inside the procedure, but of course I'm creating the connection and everything)
The table has 10 fields, and the data is read from the textboxes and stored in variables (campo1, campo2, campo3, etc.), which I'm then using in the "set" query command.
"id" is the first field from the selected row in the datagrid, which I'm sending as a parameter to the procedure called by the "OK" button.The error message shows at runtime, so I'm guessing it's something in the query. Am I writing it correctly?
I need to open a *.py file in the shell (DOS) box, but it returns an error that no file was found at the specified path. But this path is completely correct. Unless Visual Basic are referencing to paths in another matter than C#? 'Cause I am developing in C# and referenced to VB to do this.

I have a custom validator in which the script validating the control is client-side javascript. In my VB code behind for the website I call Page.Validate("groupName") but my validation script is not fired at all. I placed a break point in my javascript, but it's not even touching my validation script. While when i use the same function on non-custom validators it works.
I am thinking that it is impossibly to call my client-side validation script in my VB behind code via Page.Validate("groupName"). Do I absolutely need a server-side validation function?

Dim blb = (From d In db.Data Where d.UID = myuid Select d).Single

I am not the original author of this software project and the code is poorly documented. I am mainly a Java/C++ developer.The program displays the tree structure and allows files and folder to be selected. The program is getting errors with FileSystemTreeView when trying to return nodes on a system with a reserved partition.Here is what is happening: tree.SelectedNode = tree.Nodes(0) 'returns error with system reserved partition.calling, GetDriveList() will properly return all the drive letters - and not throw an error. Only when trying to get a tree.Node() or tree.load() is the error occurring.
