how to add a MainMenu to a form in VB 2008 Express using the design window. I only see MenuStrip in the toolbox. I can add a MainMenu programatically, but not visually. The reason I need a MainMenu and not a MenuStrip is for owner-drawing. None of the MenuStrip items seem to have an OwnerDraw property.

I had saved a file in VB Express 2008, Windows 7, but when I opened it the next time, everything showed up, but Form.vb [design] wasn't there. I can't find it when I showed all files in the solution explorer, and there's no error in the code because the project can be debugged.
I have tried to see other solutions to this problem, but since I have tried those solutions as well without success, I made an account. Since I'm new to using VB, I think that I have accidentally pressed a wrong button, but I don't think there's a button that prevents your Form.vb [design] from showing up ;). I hope this is enough info and I have posted it into the right forum...
Design view shows an error message with projects that I open and with new projects. I can create or edit a project using code and properties. I just can't see anything but the error message in design. I can double click a label or text box and it will be added to the form, and I can edit it, just not see the form in design view.

I have a very large program I would like to write but think starting with a smaller test program would be a good idea. What I want to know is: I have a base Form from which a user clicks a button to answer a question (Answer A, B, C, or D) which if the answer is correct will pop up a "Correct! answer response in a separate window. This is ok for now, however, when the "proceed to next question" button is clicked, I would like the next question to appear in the original base form window.
Right now it pops up in a separate window and I'd rather not have 20 windows open at the end of the quiz. How do I load the next form in the same window!? Obviously it's possible and could be something I'm completely overlooking, and I've also read that I could replace all data with the next Form. I have searched "Visual Basic load form in same window" and came up with results, but none of what I'm looking for.
In debug mode is the command window option available in visual Basic express 2008?
View 1 RepliesI have both the VB and C# versions of Visual Studio 2008 Express. When I run a console application in either version, instead of the console opening in an old DOS style command window like it does in VS 2005, it actually blacks out both monitors attached to my computer and treats the entire screen real estate as the console.Anyone know how to get the app to run in a small command-type window when I run it? It's like the console is running Full Screen. If I set a break point, switch from the IDE t the console and then hit Alt+Enter it switches to the small window that I want, but I still can't figure out how to make the app start with the console that way.I could post a screenshot but it would look like a big black square...no window, no frame, just the inky blackness of frustration.

Let's say I created a simple form in the form designer before runtime containing a couple of buttons, text boxes and labels. While the program is running, I would like to change properties of these controls, while having the ability to move them around, along with the addition of newer controls, say a listbox.
After the form is 're-designed', I would like to save the new settings of my form, in either a database or settings file. Whats the best way to implement this?
I need some info how to design/code a form, that only refreshs some parts of the content. Like a frame inside a webpage, that's loaded with AJAX, and the rest of the page maintains the same aspect.I know an application that acts exact the same way that i'm trying to do, but i don't know if i can refer the name.I want my form splitted in three, the top (unchanged), the middle that changes with the options of the user, and the bottom.
View 1 RepliesI often get this problem. I open a form in design mode and the form is not in view and scrollers can't get to it. Sometimes it's cut in half and the other half is outside the window but there's no way to move the form inside the design space to see the form in full. Sounds like a lame problem but I can't find a way to properly open the form

View 8 RepliesI am using Visual studio express 2008. I was working on a VB project for a few hours. Then I did something,(I think I just double clicked the form ) and I cannot open it in design mode. By Design mode I mean so you can see the controls, and ad buttons and stuff. The form still runs, if I run it. I see the form in the Solution explorer. From solution explorer, if I show all Files , then open FrmMain.Designer.vb, I can see my code. If I go to the project menu item and insert New Windows Form the new form works like I expect it too, I can see it. I need to be able to see my form.
View 2 RepliesHow come when I design a form it isn't displayed properly on certain computers in the fact that buttons near the bottom go of the bottom of the window. I beleive this only happens with Windows XP however it might be due to screen resolution, I haven't troubleshooted it much.

View 4 RepliesIm having odd problems with how my form is displaying at runtime...if you look at the 2 attachments you can see at runtime the labels disappear under the check box's, but at design time they are positioned perfectly.

Simply enough, I closed a design window, and now I can't reopen it.Whenever I click on the form in the Solution Explorer, there is no option to show the design view, yet I know that there is one.When I go to the folder where the files are stored, there is a file there is supposedly the design of the form I closed, but when I open it, all that appears is another window of code.

I can set start position to manual but it wont drag and drop how do I move a form window in the design mode? added by TNT 1/24/09 I went back and checked VB5 the left and top positions were settable but only located the form during run time.

yes these are all things capable with the traditional windows form but i want something more my style. Also im creating a orb like thing in the top left and a minimize/maximize/close button at the top right. I was going to use just images...is this the best way or can i create better graphics in wpf or something like that? Some more things that i would like but dont nessarly need would be the capablity to make my form with the clear vista aero glass instead of a single static color...i dont know mutch about this but is there an easy way to extend the vista aero glass theme across forms and if so what would that look like on xp machines.
The VB2K8 Express IDE is hanging intermittantly when I click on the form's Design tab. The tab's work area goes blank and a wait cursor appears. I can't switch tabs or do anything else within the IDE at this point. I have to go to the Task Manager, end the VB taskk, and restart the IDE. VB is at SP 1 with .NET 3.5. I have no third party add-ins or controls except for the Visual Basic Power Packs which aren't being used. At this point it is annoying and I haven't lost anything yet but it is happening more frequently over time.

But when i run my program on the debugger, the changes i mkae, don't get saved, are lost...is this a charecteristic of debugger, or is my "saving code" wrong?

I have been working on a quite complex multiform solution.All of a sudden the start up form (in fact any form I designate to start up) loads, displays and operates fine.
But when I try and show a form using showdialog the form displays behind the original form and I can�t set focus to the ide to close it down. I have to use task manager or alt f4 while the form has the focus.
Calling different forms from this one gives the same result but other forms work fine. I don�t want to redo this form as Ive done a lot of work onit.The only thing I can think of that whist I was changing the startup form in the project propertied page (file>project>properties) I unchecked the �Enable applications framework checkbox.
I open the Playtime Solution file and clear the start window, I only get a gray background and no designer tab. I've tried every way i know how to open the designer window from the solution explorer window:
Right click>>View designer
No designer tab available
View Menu>>View Designer
Shft+F7 while highlighted
I've done 3 fresh re-installs of Microsoft's VB Express Edition 2008 and the same issue is appears every time. Also, I'm running Vista, but it works fine on my other Vista computers. How do i fix this?
I want it so when you click a button you have to select the window you want (A Temporary Red box appears round the window your currently selecting). Then when you click the final window decision then it will put a new form on then resize the form to the selected window!! how??
