View 1 RepliesI have created a VB application with some web references created at design time. The URL property of each is set to Dynamic which has created a string value in My.Settings and in the app.config file.
During testing and debug the application uses one set of web services and when live it needs to use a different set of web references with a different URL. I thought I'd be able to change the values for these URL's in the MyApplication.exe.config file once installed on the PC but the application still sees the URL which was used to create the web reference at design time.
I've searched forums and this should be the way it works but I can't understand why it isn't picking up the URL for the web service from the exe.config file once I have installed the application.
So I get thrown an exception right when I try to create a new instance of my Web Service that says:
"Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'KBBVehicleService.IVehicleInformationService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element."
This is a web service that will connect to Kelley Blue Book. I know I need a new endpoint entry in my Web.Config, but what does this look like? The one I added looks like this:
<endpoint address="http://localhost:3300/KBB.svc" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="BasicHttpBinding_Default" contract="Services.Client.IVehicleInformationService"/>
But it doesn't work. Still throws the same exception at the same place.
Is it possible to set a timer for window service in app.config rather than giving a code behind code?

Steps to recreate:Open Visual Studio and load a solution (some files automatically opened) - this is when the problem occurs Close all open files Restart visual studio and load solution (no issues)Open Exactly the same files again, restart visual studio and load solution so files open automatically (problem occurs!)
However, when trying to narrow it down to a single file (that is automatically opened when the solution is loaded), I couldn't reproduce the problem. Now with all the files open again the problem doesn't occur!!! So it looks like it is fixed - though this happened before and eventually the issue came back.
I think it is to do with one of the user controls with DevExpress controls on it - when the error occurs, the designer displays the error. Though I can't reproduce it at the moment to confirm that.
I'm building a .NET component that will call an external web service. I used the "Add Service Reference" dialog to add the web service to my component, which generates the code needed to consume the service and adds the settings to the app.config file.I'm testing the component by adding a reference to its DLL from a Console application and calling the appropriate method that creates a new instance of the web service: ... = new MyServiceSoapClient(). However, when I do this, I get the following exception:

I have a WCF service with a setting I created in the WCF application property editor (settings tab).It has created something like the following property in MySettings class in the Settings.Designer.vb file. Notice the DefaultSettingValueAttribute is set to "This is the OLD value". That's my value for local testing.

The problem is after restarting the WCF service (rebooting the server machine completely), it never reads the new value. It continues to use the old value that was set as the default value in the designer file.I think this must have to do with file permissions, but I don't see anything in the event log that indicates a problem. It's like the WCF service isn't even trying to read the web.config file.Why isn't the service reading the settings value from the web.config file?
I changed config file of the windows many times. Before changing config file I stopped the service and after changing config file, started again. Every thing worked fine.
But last time when I made some changes in config file of the windows service and started it - It didnt worked, I even tried reinstalling the service but in vain.
As a last resort I rebuild the service with new config file and copied newly build files on the server and installed the service. To my surprise the Windows service worked perfectly this time.But I have only made changes to config file and the code of the windows service was untouched. My question is, do we need to rebuild the Window service if we change the config file many time?
I am creating a windows service in VS2010, and in order to store a user's input during installation I've been told to write it to a file called app.config.However i cannot find this app.config file? Does it create one in a windows service project? or just in a WCF windows service project?

I have created an application which will open a text file on the click of a button, when i am running the application in local, I am able to get the popup asking to open or save the text file, I uploaded the same code to live site there it is not displaying the popup to open or save the text file. It just flashes a window for fraction of seconds and then closes, user is not able to perform any action in that course of time. Text document which I am trying to open is available at both server and local, and path is also correct in both cases.

I have a VB2008 application which can control a windows service i.e. start, stop, pause etc. This runs ok on a Windows XP machine but not on a Win 7 machine (message is - Service error cannot open <service name> service on computer '.') View 6 RepliesI'm trying to connect to a remote server (from our customer) via HttpWebRequest.GetResponse but at the login page i'm always getting an exception: "The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error." In the response stream i see that i was redirected to the error-page. The code worked so far(HTTP status 200) with the old ASP-website but they'll migrate to ASP.NET soon. Im using httpWebRequest to get a response from a website.Ive created / creating a dvd manager for my dvds on disk. My method works fine if i double click a movie name. It will download the data into the correct directories. Im implementing a "process all titles" feature and im finding that around 15 titles im getting "internal Server error 500" or the program bombs out Could this error becoming from the poor internet speed (3G dongle) and the website rejecting my query because of slow downloading?Moved into a new house and ive no broadband in yet?

I am using MS Access -2007 on windows server -2003. on my one of the query I get "Internal OLE automation error" after it runs. It shows data for a moment then data gets deleted from query when I hit OK button on Internal OLE automation error.

Scenario: We have a website that is viewed both internally and externally. When an error occurs the users are displayed with a detailed error page(Stack trace etc). Problem: The external customers do not need that much information about the error. We are looking to have the external customers see a message instead. Ex. Please contact Administrator. Also if possible we would like to log this message in our SQL database.
Note: I'm assuming I make a custom error page like - Implementing a Custom Error page on an ASP.Net website. but how do I determine whether or not the user is internal/external? Also is this the best way to approach the problem?

How would I be able to prevent these errors?
My program takes user input, replaces all spaces with "+", then inserts it into a search url for a specified web host. For example, the user enters:"How long is a foot?"
The generated URL (in this case I'm using dogpile.com) is:
"http://www.dogpile.com/info.dogpl/search/web?&q=How+long+is+a+foot"
This method has worked before for me, but now I just get an Internal Server Error every time the code is executed.
This is a bit of unusual problem that I'm experiencing, but recently one of the users of a production application started reporting errors in the system. These were traced to a 503 Service Unavailable error when making a call to a web service used by the application.
Now here's the odd part, only the one user is affected by this issue. Other users of the application have not reported any errors. When the user logged on to a different machine that worked for another user, they still received the error.
