I'm reading a folder to assess the width x height of jpeg's, to classify them in various ways. Opening each as a bitmap and reading the bitmap width and height works but of course is laborious and very slow .... I've read various JPEG file format papers but retrieving the image pixel width and height seems none too obvious. Is there a logical way in VB to get this info quickly? My jpeg's are bog-standard ones made using VB's "Bmap.Save(Fname, ImageFormat.Jpeg)".

I'm making a photo editor and the size of the image depends on the size of the window, like the Zoom mode in the BackgroundImageLayout property of a form. It works sometimes: when resized only a small amount, it does nothing, but when the image is resized more than that, it jumps to the right position.
vb.net
Private Function GetImageRect() As Rectangle
Dim r As New Rectangle()
If Me.ClientSize.Width > Me.ClientSize.Height Then

I have just found that if a DataGridView image column's size (height & width - in pixels) is smaller than the image's original size (in my case all images are exactly 180 x 180 pixels) at the time the cell is populated then the image is automatically being converted to a lower resolution I assume to fit the image completely within the size of the cell). How can I stop the automatic scaling of the image?
The image below show the same file displayed twice, both at 60x60 pixels ('Thumbnail' column) and a blowup of the image (PictureBox populated via the CellMouseEnter event) to it's right. You'll notice the resolution of the first blowup is far less the the second. so, what made the difference in the resolution of the blowups is? In the second blowup's case I'd first stretched the image column's width to ~180 pixels and set the row height to match (via the ColumnWidthChanged event) then populated the DataGridView then stretched the image column to 60 pixels (its minimum).

I'm upgrading my VB6 project to VB.NET and I found one of the problem below relating to dimensional array.Here's my VB6 coding :
Private Function ConvertMatrixToBase0(ByVal MyMat() As Double) As Double()
Dim i, j As Long
Dim ConvMat() As Double[code.]...
When i port it over to VB.NET, i encountered error message 'ReDim' cannot change the number of dimensions of an array. for the line highlighted in red. And I suspect that VB.NET need to always define the exact dimension of the array during the declaration. But for the function above, for the array of 'MyMat()', I do not know what is the exact dimension every time it runs, and that is why i need to check the dimension of the array.My question is do we have any solution in dealing unknown dimension array in VB.NET? As in VB6, we can just define Array() instead of Array (,) in VB.NET.

I'm writing a Cleint/Host program that sends a image over tcp (from printscreen, not a file) to the host. Everything seems to work fine and the image is transmitted and displayed in a picturebox plus saved to a folder. The problem is when the printscreen is bigger than 176040 B. First the limit was 128000B but after setting the sendbuffersize and recivebuffersize to 1000kb the limit is 176040 B. Could it be a limit in the tcp protocol?
Here's the client code
Code:Imports System.NetImports System.Net.SocketsImports System.IOImports System.DrawingImports System.Drawing.Imaging
Public Class capture

I've got an app where the user uploads an image and the app resizes the image three different ways based on different variables. They all use the same image. I can't check to see if it's done using the image so I wondered if there was a way to check to see if the file is writable. A small loop that exits once it becomes writable (or "deleteable"). Working out of VB.NET.

I have a form that starts at a specific point (the right side of the left screen on an extended desktop). I am trying to work with users with different resolution. Insteadof changing the resolution to match the application, I want to try and get the size of the desktop (1280 x 2 for an extended desktop, 800 x 2 for a different resolution) and set the form to the same point... the inside (right side) of the left screen on an extended desktop. Is there a way to tell how long the desktop is from left to right and top to bottom?

I have developed a system to update various programs. I put the programs updated into a particular folder of my site and Users can launch their update program to download and update their application.
The user interface has two progress bar, one for the single program in download and the second for the total download.
For calculating the total amount of bytes for the second progress bar I need to know the dimension in bytes of programs and files to be downloaded before start downloading. See the attached code.
For that I read, in remote mode, the size of all the files checked and I obtain the total amount of bytes.
All works fine with various type of files (.EXE - .DOC - .JPG - .TXT etc).
The problem arises with the Crystal Report file (.RPT).
The error 404 occurs but the file exists, the server WEB is active and the other files of the list are summed. If I compress the same file in .ZIP all works.[code]...

I am using this code which I am checking with the form width size that if they are greater than 672, then do something....
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
If Me.Size.Width >= 672 Then
MessageBox.Show("the form size is greater than 672")
Else
[code]...
When the width size is no greater than 672, the messagebox will display that it says "the form size is greater than 672" which it sound didn't looks right for me. What I am trying to do is to check the width size that if they are greater than 672 then display the messagebox that says "the form size is greater than 672", otherwise if the width size is no greater than 672 which is equal, then display the messagebox that says "the form size is no greater than 672".

I have a picturebox with a tiled background image (plane white bitmap), and an "image" resource centered in the middle of it, I would like to chance the size of this centered image within the picturebox.
I tried:
picScaledRepresentation.SizeMode = PictureBoxSizeMode.CenterImage
picScaledRepresentation.Size = New Size(Width, Height)
But this just changed the the size of the whole picturebox, rather than the image within it.

I'm currently working on a school project. And a part of the program is to 'change' the images. All images added are BMP-files. But the output has to be JPEG. Now there are 2 other problems:
- The width of the image should be between (70-165 ) Pixel and the height between (65-185 )Pixel
- The filesize of the image should be between (3-4 KB)
I know how to change the width/height, but it's hard to make the filesize between 3-4 KB.
