I need to create/get a simple program that opens up a webpage, writes to a log if it is successful or not, logs out and repeats 5 minutes later.I'm not a coder myself, and I have no coders available at my work, I do on the otherhand have access to Visual Basic .NET 2010.

I use the code [code] System.Diagnostics.Process.Start [URL] when a button is clicked, but when I add that code in without clicking a button, it does not work. I have tried to put it everywhere, but it just does not work. I have also looked it up.
I want to create a tiny program that writes itself. VB.
Basically, I start it off with the smallest coding possible. Then, I want it to be able to automatically generate buttons, forms, labels by itself. I want it to compile another version of itself, and to test if it worked. I want it to in someway to be able to ask the new application if it works, and if it does to close both and to run the newer variation, then to repeat this process. I guess this is kind of like a self-manifesting application that keeps growing; an AI perhaps. Is this possible?
I've had a search through a number of extremely useful articles on the forums, however rather than reinvent the wheel I thought I would ask if anyone already had what I am looking for..A simply little VB app that opens a session to a specific IP port and then writes to a test file everything it receives. If the connection drops, simply re-stablish it and keep listening for text to write to the file.

whether that particular program is allowed to be open and if so before the program can be opened a password dialog will appear asking the user to enter the defined password in order to continue opening the program. Is this possible? Also should the password entered not match up, the program/process will not be allowed to open and will be closed/cancelled.

Im learning Visual Basic 2010 on my programming class and we reached the part of file handling. Here i tried to make a simple program that can create a text file with the content of what i type on the textbox, basically i create the file if it doesn't exist, and if it already exists i append the content to it. Once the file is saved i can read it using the "Open" button. Unfortunataly, whenever i try to create the file, the compiler gives me an error saying that it cannot modify a closed file, although i've followed up the execution instruction by instruction and i can't find the error.

So I was looking around the forums for how to do a successful Winsock program but noticed that there is an alternative way of creating connections, using system.net.sockets. Would you guys say that system.net.sockets has replaced Winsock? Is there a particular one that is better than the other?
