VS 2008 Way Of Making Click Events For Individual Items Based On What Control Is Right Clicked?
May 28, 2009I want a context menu strip to have 4 specific items. For testing purposes, we call them Item1, Item2, Item3, and Item4.I've set up a context menu strip like this, and I am using it for about 20 different controls. I want these four items to do different things based on what control the user right clicks. The only way I could think of doing this, was to make 20 context menu strips and create a click event for each item. This obviously, seems like a really bad way of doing it.Does anyone have any suggestions or another way of making the click events for the individual Items based on what control is right clicked?

Dec 12, 2009I'm working with a connection to a Access db. I noticed that when the mdb file is not found in the location it should be, an exception OleDbException is thrown. I would like to create some kind of form where the user specify the new position of the Access mdb file to continue to work. Then, it would be useful to save the new location as well I suppose. But, where do I have to handle that exception?

Mar 29, 2012I recently upgraded my system to Windows 7 64bit and ever since then I have had nothing but issues with my code attempting to access an Oracle database. I was using msdaora for my connection string however that does not work in 64bit. I changed over to OraOLEDB.Oracle which everything I can find on Google says to use however it fails every time. I have installed Oracle 11g 2 times now and even tried reinstalling VB.net 2010 and still no luck.

The problem is that the data is spead out of multible columns and rows, looks like a crosstab query. I need to convert it back to its data. I could do it with UNION Queries but this would be unpractical due to the number of columns.I have created a public function in my module. But I am not sure on how to call it. I get the error:

Aug 12, 2009I have an MS Access database that has a field called DeletedDate. I want to use a Delete statement that will delete the record(s) when DeleteDate is 30 days old or older. I have tried several different Delete statements but none seem to work properly. They will always delete some of the records, but will leave some records where either DeleteDate is older than 30 days or will delete recored where DeleteDate is not yet 30 days old. I have tried these using DeleteDate as a Text field and as a Date/Time field. Which should I use? These are the Delete Statements that I have used:

Jun 29, 2011I have the membership provider setup and its currently pointing to a SQL database on my machine. The role based access works and I have a menu that is security trimmed. The user can only get to pages that they have access to.When an anonymous user tries to get to a page that they dont have access to it brings them to a login page so that they can login. That is fine. But when a logged in user tries to get to a page they dont have access to(Usually by typing in a URL) it brings them to the login page again asking them to login(except there already logged in. I'd like to either take them to a different page or somehow tell them they don't have access.

Dec 3, 2009I've been working on an application for awhile that, basically, allows the viewing and printing of a maintenance database. It allows the user to view basic information for the object and then view the maintenance history. My approach for the maintenance history is simply to have unique tables per object since a history has to be kept for each, however, I'm running into a problem in the application that allows the user to view the general information from one DB and the Maintenance history from the other DB.
Say you have Object ID BG1. I can enter the object ID into a search field, pull the data from the general DB and display the data, but I also need it to pull the information from the maintenance history and display. If maintenance history for this object is not found, then create a new table within the DB, fill the columns with the required fields and allow for the user to edit the history.
Set Up Different Levels Of Access In An Application Based On An SQL Table Of Usernames?
Sep 2, 2011I want to make different levels of access for a vb.net program i'm writing.I have a database called "stratocast". I want to show a specific form for entries in this table with "IsManager" checked and another specific form for those with "IsAdmin" checked.Im using MySql server and visual basic 2010 express
EDIT:To clear up any misconceptions about my post, ill explain further: In my vb.net application i have a login form with two textboxes; One for the username and one for password. I also have three other forms, one is called "frmAdmin", another called "frmManager" and another one called "frmEmployee".
On my database i have a table called "employee" with columns called "name", "title", "IsManager", "IsAdmin", "Username" and "Password".
IsManager and IsAdmin are both Boolean columns
This means that their values can only be 0 or 1 and the result is displayed as a checkbox.When the employee logs into this applcation i want it to check whether or not the employee is a manager, an administrator, or just a regular employee with no additional rights. If the employee is a manager, i want to show "frmManager". If the employee is an Administrator i want to show "frmAdmin". And if the employee has no additional rights then i want to show "frmEmployee".
I'd like to keep the configuration for access level checking confined to the one table but if it's better to have separate tables for each level of access (ie: tables called Admin,Manager, and Employee) then ill consider that too.
