User Adding Row In DataGridView?

Dec 9, 2010

I'm having an incredibly frustrating problem with datagridview that seems like it should have a very simple solution, but I haven't been able to find it yet.I have a form with a datagridview on it that is only usually 1 to 2 rows long but can be much longer. So when the form loads it populates the datagridview with values for however many rows there should be, and there is a blank last row. On the column header on that last row is an asterisk. If you click on the asterisk or anywhere in the blank line, it adds a new row where you can enter data, however, the blank line with the asterisk does not move down to be under it. In fact the asterisk stays on that line, and if you click anywhere on that same line, it adds another row, placing it on top of the one that was just added, and this can happen forever. I have a sub that refreshes the whole table and repopulates, however I can't run it in the new line code with an "Operation is not valid because it results in a reentrant call to the SetCurrentCellAddressCore function." which I can't seem to get past. If I exit the form however and come back in (it runs the refresh on loading), now all the lines that were added show up, with a blank line with an asterisk at the bottom.

User Editing Of Datagridview?

Feb 5, 2010

I'm trying to add functionality to my DGV that enables the user to edit the cell data and then save it to the datasource but I'm not getting very far. Right now, I'm just concerned with the editing the DGV part.

What's the best way to do this taking into consideration: A column of type date in hh:mm format will not edit. At the moment this column won't display the new edit and if I attempt to enter and display a string instead of a hh:mm rime format, I get an error)I need to provide validation for the value that is entered.There are loads of events for DGV cells

DataGridView - New Columns To Be Resizable By User?

Jun 10, 2011

Recently I was working on a project that included several DataGridView objects. With one, I dynamically create columns based on the types of data being displayed. I established a baseline size (so each column would initially display the same width), and a minimum size. AutoSizeMode was set to None. I knew that I wanted the new column to be resizable by the user, so I put in code to that effect:
Resizable = True

When I tested the code, the columns were not resizable. I traced the code, looking for anything that would reset the property Resizable to False. Nothing. I commented out the line with the
Resizable = True command;
The columns were resizable after this. At this point, I remembered that Resizable is defaulted to true. But I still did not understand why the columns were not resizable after setting the property to True.

I did some experiments. If you create a new DatagridViewTextBoxColumn, add it to the
DatagridView, and then set the Resizable property to True, the result (via Watch) is False {2}. If you do the same, but set the Resizable property to False, the result is True {1}.

This is disturbing (and confusing) on at least two levels. The fact that the exact opposite boolean value is passed in. The fact that {2} is False. It was always my understanding that VB treated
{0} as False, and
Any other value as True.

DataGridView Properties Through User Control?

Sep 20, 2011

I've built a custom user control in VS2010, incorporating two datagridviews, and asplitpanel - The idea is that there is a "Main" datagridview control, and the second is an internally controlled grid that (when shown) displays the Columns which are set as invisible. This allows the user to drag the columns onto the main grid, in order to display the columns.This all works fairly well. I've set the modifiers property on the Main DataGridView to public, so that by and large, the developers can make use of the control just like a normal DGV (albeit with an extra level to the code).

I've also created dummy events for each of the events that the DGV normally raises, and pass them through the usercontrol, so that the developers can attach to the DGV events as normal. Again, this appears to work fine.Unfortunately, I've run into a problem. I'm trying to set the RowSizeMode to DisplayedCells (or indeed any value). If I try it in the designer, it appears to retain the change until I run the application, after which the property reverts back to normal.

Find User Input In Datagridview?

Oct 26, 2009

Probably I am asking something stupid. I have a datagridview in which I would like to be able to let the user change values of multiple columns by entering values (input 55.0) or additions(input +1.2)/decreases(input -1.2).How can I check what the exact input of the user is ?

At the moment I only use the input value (so for exampel 55.0) for which I use the DataGridView1.CurrentCell.Value which I put in all selected cells, but I would like to receive the exact user input (so eg '+1.2')

Inform User That A DataGridView Is Being Populated?

Oct 19, 2009

I am writing a program in VB.Net to manage text messages sent through an API. It allows you to view messages in a datagridview and filter by date, sent/unsent etc...

To load the messages I'm executing an SQL statement and retrieving a DataTable which then gets set as the DataSource for my DataGridView control.

The problem is that depending on the filters selected the user could be selecting a lot of records and it would take some time for the DataSource to update. I want to inform the user of this load time by providing a progress bar or label of some kind.

I have used progress bars before when looping through data but this is loading it all at once. I thought of displaying a label when the user clicks to load the data and then hiding it when the data is loaded. But this happens instantaneously even when the data is still loading.

Is there an event on the DataGridView I can use perhaps?

Datagridview - Formatting Don't Applies When User Manually Enter A Value

Nov 19, 2010

The situation: I have a datagridview with one column (col1). In the datagrid definition (design view), i have created this row, and set the formatting to C2 (or C0, or C - I tried them all). then, I load my datagrid view pro programmatically :

dbl_myValue as double
dbl_myValue = 6.99
datagridview1.item(0,0) =
dbl_myValue

The datagridView shows the data correctly : 6.99$. When I "spy" on the datagridview.item(0,0), the "Value" property is a Double.

the problem: It don't work if the user manually enter a value : click in the cell, enter a numeric value (let's say 100, without decimal to avoid complexity) and then LEAVE the cell (so no more in EDIT mode). The formating just don't applies. When I "spy" on the datagridview.item(0,0), the "value" property is a STRING. So I guess this is the problem, but how can i do?

Retain Row Attributes In A DataGridView When User Sorts By A Column?

Oct 20, 2010

I have a DataGridView, bound to a dataset. All the columns are sortable (.ColumnSortMode.Automatic). The user may change data in certain columns, although not the first ("key") column. When data gets changed on a row, I change the backcolor for that row (to show it as dirty). At some point, the user will do something with all of these changes.

My problem is that I still want the user to be able to resort the data by any of those columns. When it's sorted, though, I lose the backcolors that I changed. I do know which rows are dirty, this is just a cosmetic issue. Isn't there a way to retain those backcolors, or any other such row attribute?

Setup A Datagridview That Is Dynamic Based On User Input?

Feb 11, 2009

I am attempting to set up a datagridview that is dynamic based on user input. The user input is a start and end date. The start date defines the first column the next column is the next date... until the end date (x-axis). The y-axis is technicians and the fields will show the assignment for the technician on that date.

All the advise I am seeing on datagridviews is to create a property methods to provide the information for each column. for example:

Dim 12-Oct-2009 as string
Dim 13-Oct-2009 as string

[Code]...

How do I create a object data source that allows me to populate the data grid? I want the column headers to be included as a string in row 0 of the multidimensional array. The amount of columns will be dynamic with a minimum of 1 and maximum viewing of 100 days based on what dates are selected in the start date and end date fields.The input dates will be used to generate a query to a database that will populate the multidimensional array.One solution I see is pick a start date and have a set number of dates and code for set number of columns (100) in a row and then set the names of the columns dynamically...ahhhh code repetition!

I am not sure how else to do this but looking for a more suttle way.I am using this to create a simple scheduling tool to see resource schedules by date. There is an unmoveable end date so initially I will need to look ahead 100 days but as the end date gets closer, I will have fewer and fewer dates. So eventually the end date will be that start date.
