View 3 RepliesIn my application, i have put a question on form closing if the user wants to save the changes?. But right now, i have just put it in default whether they make changes or not.I thought of prompting it on text change.. but the text automatically changes on load as it retrieves data from sql server.
View 15 RepliesI'm using the FileSaveAs dialog control to allow the user to select a filename to save a file either as a doc file, an rtf file or a pdf file (that part was easy).However, after a bit of testing, it seems that the file extension doesn't automatically change when selecting the different file types.If the filename in the dialog is Foo.doc and I select FileType *.pdf and click "Save", my app still tries to save the file as a doc type.Virtually every other MS app automatically changes the extension to match a selected file type from the Office Suite to Paint. here's my code:
Dim dlg As New SaveFileDialog
dlg.InitialDirectory = m_sReportFolder
dlg.FileName = sProjectName & ".docx"[code]......
I want my app to load a .exe file specified by the user, crypt it then save the crypted .exe file on a path also specified by the user. I need some guidance on this. First of all, I am currently using IO.filestream to store the .exe file. When I save the completed file (so far in development, that means a copy of the file as I haven't added encryption yet) the .exe file appear there alright, but without the icon (it has the standard/no icon instead) and it does not work. I tried outputting it to a .txt for examination and it was a bunch of tokens as one would expect. Here is the statements:

I need to prompt the user to input a few key/value items.Instead of building a form with a bunch of label + textbox, I figured I could use a simple, unbound grid.
I know the ListView widget can be displayed as a grid, but it appears that some added code is needed to make it behave that way.If you've investigated the matter recently, which solution did you end up using?

I'd like for my application to prompt for user credentials as soon as it starts. The reason for this being that it is an app for our IT Helpdesk that will be run on user's machines, and I need to make sure it is always run with administrator credentials.
Is there a simple way to get the program to prompt for credentials on execution?

I'm trying to figure out how to prompt a user to enter a captcha. Some programs out there have a little popup with the captcha image and a textbox, the user then enters the characters from the image and the captcha is solved by the user of the application. When I try to request the image directly, it gives me a different image than the one currently in the webbrowser control. Any ideas how I can create the pop up of this captcha image for the user to enter?

I'm writing the following bits of code for a SaveFile Dialog box in Visual Basic 2010.NET. The code works well as the XLSX file is created and opens in Microsoft Excel. However, the problem that I am having is that if the program overwrites a file, the user is getting two prompts. One prompt is from the program's own SaveFile dialog confirming the choice. The other is from Microsoft Excel asking you the same. It's as if the program is running in the background. Does anyone know how I can write this code to save the file as an Excel file? [Code]
View 1 RepliesIf the user chooses to save over an existing file, I want to essentially delete the file first, then re-create it and save to it. Basically, I don't want to append to the file. I want to completely overwrite. However, I am just running into all these snags. It basially deletes the file as soon as the savefiledialog box opens. before, it would simply append. [code]

Is there any way to use a VB form to supply user credentials to the Runas command in command prompt? I basically need something exactly the same as the GUI for RunAs but just for Internet Explorer (yes I know you can right click and go RunAs but that cant be done in this case). So the user would open this VB form, type their username and password in, hit OK and it would open Internet Explorer with their credentials (they log in under a generic account used by many people).

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to create an app to launch at start up that will ask you what applications you want launching, or if you want all your favorite app's to start up etc. But before I go any further, I think its crucial to know how to save settings that a user has entered (such as program location and name in this case) so that he/she doesn't have to enter them every time at start up.
So far I have just made this, can anyone tell me how I would get it to save the settings entered?

Option Explicit On

I am trying to create a wpf program that allows the user to create custom shapes or pick premade shapes and that after making their selection, a canvas shows their shapes randomly sized, positioned, colored and copied in multiples. I am hoping that on click, the program will put its output on a time interval and that the user can click stop when they are satisfied with how everything looks. My issue is, I would like to also give the user an option to save their created artwork as a jpeg file. Also if I wanted to link this file to a web browser what will I have to do?

I'm trying to save an excel file:
vb.net
xlWBook.SaveAs("J:DOWNLOADS.xls")
xlWBook.Close()
xlApp.Quit()
If the file already exists excel will open an message box and ask if you want to overwrite. If I click yes, it works. If I click no or cancel, I get an error:
Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC
How can I tell what button the user clicked?
