I have a form with several databound controls. Certain users will be able to change the data in these fields. Is there a way to check whether the data in any databound control has changed? I would like to do this so that I can enable an UPDATE button and flag a warning to the user that they must save their changes.
View 9 RepliesI have a tabcontrol and two tab pages on the tab control. There are some fields on the tab pages which are databound to access database table which are populated using dataadapter. There is functionality to calculate total of the fields on both the tab pages when I click a button. When I load the form the record is retrieved and all the fields are populated with data. when I click the button without navigating to the second tab page then the total is calculated only for the fields that are on the front (first) tab page. It does not include the fields on the second tab page in calculations. When I navigate on the second tab page and then hit the button then the calculations are correct.
I saw that, for the controls on the second tab page, databinding does not happen until I navigate to the tab page. When I navigate to the second tab page then only the controls get the data. And this makes the difference in calculations when I just load the data and hit the button. It thus takes only the fields from the first tab page in calculation as the fields on the second tab pages are still not populated with data. I want the fields on the second tab page also to get populated with data as soon as the data is loaded and not when I actully navigate to the tab page.
I have a MultiView with several Views within it. When the ActiveView changes I want to selectively databind a label that is in one of the views. Ideally, I don't want to do it every time the ActiveView changes, rather only when it is actually the view containing the label that is active.[code]...

But this method has a bad issue: The text property takes a while to "load up" plus getting its hash code adds to it. This code runs every time the Lines are needed (it is a property). So this

Takes ages to complete, because for every line it checks if the lines have changed.I am trying to evade using MyBase.Lines too much, since that REALLY takes ages to load.
- I can not use the modified property since it is unreliable (set to true if only a text color changes)
- Can't use the RTF since it changes without the text changing (coloring) and the hash code is slow as well.
- Can't use the TextChanged event, since it is sent after the SelectionChanged event (for some reason)
I am looking for some information on how to properly implement data binding on a user created control. My UserControl contains a Textbox, a Button, and a MonthCalendar. I am able to databind to the Textbox inside of my user control, however, I want to implement the databinding on the UserControl itself, and not reference to textbox inside the control. I've bound a lot of controls on a form to a Entity. Some of them update fine, the others are just jumping back to their original value as soon as it loses focus.The old data are loaded in all controls perfectly.

I have a pre-existing database which I am coding to, so I can't change the data stored in the SQL-Server 2005 database. My application uses the DataGridView to maintain the data. There is a yes/no field that I would like to bind a checkbox to. The field is a character field in the database, and holds either Y or N. So, here's the question. I know how to set the column to be a checkbox, I think, but I don't know how to map it so that it reads/stores a "Y" value as checked and a "N" value as unchecked.

i added a blank row in because if i bound without it then i was unable to add new row.
AllowUserToAddRows = True is set also
but when i populate the blank row and tab of it i would like another blank row to be created below but unsure where/how i go about this?basically im aiming for teh user to be able to edit or add numerous records to the datagridview then commit all changes on one click (Save) at the end.
here is the situation i am using the combobox with the databound dataset..i produce two combobox for that one field because i need to display the selected data in separate tabs... the combobox 1 is working perfectly i can select all data i want to but in the combobox 2 i can only see those data and when i select data on it, it will not display the selected data.. it still remain on the previous displayed data...

On the form load event i want to populate my ComboBox1 to display unique items directly from the DB. For that i have set the DataSource property of the ComboBox1 to the selected field. On the ComboBox1_SelectionChangeCommitted event i have set the filter for the DataSource which is working fine.
Now when i select an item from the ComboBox1 i get the filtered result in DataGridView but when i again drop down the combobox i see nothing other than the last selected item. Why is this happening? Is there a better way of populating ComboBox with the items directly from DB with default selected value as null?
I have a small piece of code that iterates through the controls collection on a panel (below) Everything works fine until I want to focus on a control that doesn't support the selectall method i.e. a datetimepicker. Is there any way of determining the type of control and not call the selectall method when the type is datetimepicker. All my other controls support it so that's the only one I need to exclude.

When I run this in my test app, Info is Nothing-but when I run it in the vendor's app Info is an Enumerated type. Why?
I've found a little more info, but it's still a mystery to me-and so far it appears to be a mystery to everybody else, too.
First, I noticed that I didn't mention that the Collection is a Hashtable. I don't know if that would make a difference, but it is something I forgot to mention.
Second, there's a 'regular' variable named ObjName that contains the value being returned by Info. My understanding is that there's no connection between these, e.g. Dim X as Integer = 1 doesn't change the type or value of the object of CommonArgs("X"). But that's what appears to be happening.
Any suggestion?
When my app closes, perform a checksum, digital signature, whatever on a data file, and save that in a text file.
When my app opens again, perform that same process on the file, and see if the new checksum matches the saved one, in order to determine if the file has been changed outside the application.

i created a custom control that accepts only datetime values. [url] but i'm having some issues with it when it is bound to a column and then i navigate through records. it seems to trigger a row-change to all navigated records even though i haven't manually change anything on these records.
this is affecting the last_update_date and last_updated_by fields of my tables. i need to only affect records that were manually changed. can anyone help me? also, any date field should be bound to the Value property of this control instead of Text. haven't figured out how to remove the Text from bindable properties yet.

I added the colLocation to dgv."descirption" contains Unicode characters. I can see the comboBox correctly and choose the item.The problem is when the comboBox lost the focus, the value is changed to first item of the comboBox.
Updated:I found out that the ComboBox doesn't change the data when the DisplayMember is in English characters. It changes only when the DisplayMember is in Unicode chracter.
Is there a way to get the program that is locking a file, in vb 2005?
For instance, when I try to open a file that is already opened by another program, can I get the name of the process/program that has locked this file?
I'm trying to use Adobe's command line parameters to launch a PDF file with a user's search term passed in automatically. Unfortunately, Adobe's syntax for this command requires me to start Acrobat.exe (or AcroRdr32.exe) and pass in parameters, including the PDF file name.I have users that might have any version of Adobe Acrobat from 5.0 up, or they might be using Adobe Reader version 5.0 and up. I know when I double-click a PDF file, Windows has an association with that file that points to wherever Acrobat.exe (etc...) is installed to launch the program. How can I get access to that information?I've looked in the registry at"HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.pdf", but don't see much in there that would lead me to "c:Program FilesAdobeAcrobat 8.0Acrobat.exe" or wherever the program is installed. Does anyone know how I can access this information?

View 8 RepliesI need to process a text file created by a Streamwriter. I have the Streamwriter object but the file location is determined by the user. The problem is, I need to process *the file* not the contents-so I need the location.
Steamwriter doesn't seem to have a Location or File property. Or am I just missing it? How can I tell what file a Streamwriter object is writing to?
I changed my Username on my computer from i.e. "xxxxxx x xxxxx" to "Dennis"

The file "VSProjectApplication.ico" is in 'C:UsersDennisAppDataRoamingMicrosoftVBExpress9.0'
Somewhere in the VB2008 "configuration" files I believe that I need to manually change the old path to the new path.
I found the old path in the ".suo" file. The ".suo" file is not a text file. How can I edit the .suo file, save it so that it will work?
