Can't Add Reference Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback.dll
Oct 9, 2010
I'm trying to play a music file. When I went to add reference and clicked on Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback.dll, it won't load. How do I resolve this problem?
Is this the preferred method for playing audio files?

Currently using VS2010, DirectX 9, Winforms, .Net 3.5, VB.I'm creating an application that will play MP3 files through the left and right channels of a sound card. It will also need to play another MP3 file through the centre/rear channel when triggered.I'm currently using DirectX Audio class to play the MP3 files which works fine, but I can't see a way of selecting the device or channel that each sound stream is sent to.I've looked at a few libs such as OpenTK and BASS.Net. BASS.Net seems promising, but I need to try to avoid the license fee if possible.

I have a menu which reads file info, but for some reason, when I open a video that I KNOW is 1280x720, the width and height come up as 1292x758.
Edit:
When I open a video which is 640x480, it says it's 656x518
That, and an extra preview box pops up due to:
labFR.Text = "Frame rate: " & Strings.FormatNumber((1 / AudioVideoPlayback.Video.FromFile(labinput.text, True).AverageTimePerFrame), 3)
This needs to be playing so I can get the frame rate, but how to I close it once I have the frame rate?
Working in VB.NET Framework 4.0. (VS2010)

this error seems to be an error on Microsoft's part with Windows 7 and DirectX9. DirectX11 on Windows 7 should be able to run DirectX9, but it says it can't find the assembly called "Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D.dll". I know for a fact that he can play Assasins Creed on Windows 7 which uses DirectX9.. Why does that game work but not my application? I'm using VB.NET btw.

I've spent a long time bashing my head against my desk and an even longer time trying to get directX to work with vb.net. I've downloaded the June 2010 SDK and installed. I cannot import the directx reference, and it does not even show up in the add references popup. even when manually going into the c:program filesMicrosoft DirectX SDK (June 2010) and search every folder for the correct file it does not exist. What the hell. I'm running Visual Studio 2010 Pro. this is the most frustrating thing.

Okay normally this was easy to do, but now with IE9 Visual Studio 2010 hangs and crashes. The problem seems to be even worse because you can't build an Interop.mshtml.dll to match version 9. I've tried using the VS command prompt with no luck. Allegedly this is how it is done, but there are no known examples that actually work. If anyone has done this with success

I was trying to make my program see if facebook.com was running in internet explorer.
I added the following
Private Function isFaceBookOpen() As Boolean
For Each ie As SHDocVw.InternetExplorer In New SHDocVw.ShellWindows()
Dim filename As String = System.IO.Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(ie.FullName).ToLower()
If filename = "iexplore" Then
[code]...
And added reference; Microsoft Internet Controls (COM tab) but i also need to add this reference; Microsoft.mshtml (.NET tab)
Problem is that i can't find that reference. BTW, I want the function to be triggered by a timer.

I am using VB.NET 2002 and we have set up a test environment running SQL Server 2005. I am trying to add a reference to Microsoft.SQLServer.ManagedDTS.dll which is required to run a DTS/SSIS package from VB.NET. However the dll does not show in my add reference listing so when I select BROWSE and select the actual DLL I get a rather long error message telling me that only 'dll' and COM components can be referenced.
The exact message is: A reference to 'C:Programs FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90SDKAssembliesMicrosoft.SQLServer.ManagedDTS.dll' could not be added. This is not a valid assembly or COM component. Only assemblies with extension 'dll' and COM components can be referenced.make sure that the file is accessible, and that it is a valid assembly or COM component.

I have Visual Studio 2010 and a VB Project that had a reference to Microsoft.Interop.Excel 12.0. Well recently I changed the reference version to 14.0. That was actually a mistake and now I need to bump it back down to version 12.0. However I get this error in my project now...
Project 'MyProject' requires a reference to version '14.0.0.0' of assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel', but references version '12.0.0.0'
of assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel'.
I tried removing references and adding the com object to, but no avail.

AudioVideoPlayback works really .FromFile with jpg or mpg files. But I am trying to show a viewo stream from a video camera over the network. The camera feed is something like ... IP-ADDRESS/mjpg/video.cgi. AudioVideoPlayback .FromUrl seems to access the camera ( the camera then prompts for log on credentials) but it will not display the feed. My question is can AudioVideoPlayback display cgi files? My all is written in Visual Basic 2008, running on Win 7/64 and x86 based platforms as well.

I'm trying to upgrade a VB6 app to VB 2008. I have read the article in the tutors corner about automating Excel from VB but I cannot get it to work. Heres what I have done:
1) set a reference to the Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Library
2) Added "Imports Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel" to the top of the module
3) in a routine I have added: Dim X As New Excel.Application Here's where I get an error: Error 75 'Application' is ambiguous in the namespace 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel'.

I'm currently doing a project that includes access 2010 My question will be what driver can I use for an access 2010 *.accdb type file? For a *.mdb it works perfectly well with
ConnString ="Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq=" & Application.StartupPath & "\CITSDB.mdb;Uid=Admin;Pwd=123;"
But, when I changed the mbd to accdb:
ConnString ="Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.accdb)};Dbq=" & Application.StartupPath & "\CITSDB.accdb;Uid=Admin;Pwd=123;"
It resulted in errors:
ERROR[HY000][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]Could not find file '(unknown)'.
ERROR[IM006][Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager]SQLSetConnetAttr failed
ERROR[HY000][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]Could not find file '(unknown)'
And then it shows me that my code for
If dsLogin.Tables(0).Rows.Count = 1 Then
IndexOutOfRangeException was unhandled
Cannot find table 0
I knew it must be the driver but I don't know what accdb driver I can use for the connstring.

I am building a VB 2008 Express Edition application.I have built a database (with a single table) using SQL Server Compact 3.5 and have connected it to the project. I am able to view and edit the data using a DataGridView on a second form (tutorial made this very easy). I need to work with the data in the table within the application. how to easily load the entire table into an array or even read the table a row or cell at a time so that I can make all of the data available for manipulation within the application (the tutorials only seem to show how to display the data).

I have a quick question that needs answering. How can I use DirectX in my VB 2008 application? Most sites I've seen says to write Imports Microsoft.DirectX but it's apparently not there. I have downloaded the DirectX SDK (MArch 2009) but there are only C++ files in there. Can anyone provide insight as to how I could solve this?
