I'm just starting out using vb.net and i am writing my first application. I have added some comboboxes at runtime to my form using the code below.[code]Now my question is now that i have these controls added to the form, how can i iterate through them all and collect the values for sql injection. I have given each combobox a specific name when it was created such as Ball1, Ball2, Ball3.[code]
View 4 RepliesI have created a datagrid of my own in vb dotnet and converted to dll. I add this dll to a project.i have 2 forms and i have added this control on 2 forms. When i run the project and open 2 forms simentaneously an error " reference not set to an instance of an object" occurs on acess of any property of that control.

View 1 RepliesPublic Class aaMyForm
Inherits Windows.Forms.Form
Added some controls. Build it, add the .DLL as reference to my other project.
In my other project:
Imports MyLib
Public Class XForm
Inherits aaMyForm
The events from aaMyForm execute correctly but the controls added to it are not shown on XForm. I have found some info about set Modifiers Protected in order to be able to change the functionality of the controls but havent found anything about why the controls aren display on the XForm.
My background is mostly Access VBA and I am having to learn VB.NET. I am trying to recreate an Access 2007 application I wrote into VB.Net. We are looking at using a hosted SQL Server so we do not have to worry about remote offices or replication. I am using VS 2008 and SS2008.My issue is that I need to create a login form in VB that with look at SQL Server DB and return a dataset record matching the username and password. There are many tutorials on here but do not match what I am looking for.I have a stored procedure with 2 parameters (@prmUser and @prmPassword) named spLogin.I need to call the sp and pass the parameters to SQL Server DB and return the complete row of data that is matched from the button_click event on my form.
In Access, I would have a form that would have the returned data and I would reference that information throughout the application by using the 'forms!frmName!txtValue' to populate forms, reports, and fields that would capture the user that created the record. What is the best practice for this?Next when the login credentials are correct then I need another form to open, which is my MDI form, if not correct then msgbox to try again.
I know when I draw to the form and add controls I get a flicker effect.If I draw to a picturebox on the form and add controls will the picturebox flicker?

I am a student and totally new to vb.net
i want to when in run time i resize the form manually all the controls in the form to resize automatically so how can i do that?
View 1 RepliesI have a form containing two panels. In both panels there are two labels and textboxes. I set the 'Center In Form' property of the labels and textboxes to 'Horizontally' and 'Vertically' in design time respectively. But as the form is resizable, when the size of the form is increased or decreased at runtime the controls are no longer center aligned in the panels. How can I handle this problem (provided the main form needs to remain sizable)?
View 2 RepliesHow to increase a forms opacity without increasing the opacity of the controls in the form?
View 1 RepliesIn my home form I have a splitcontainer and few buttons. When the buttons are clicked respective forms are opened in the splitcontainer. The splitcontainer is anchored- top, left, right, bottom so that when the home form is resized the splitcontainer resizes itself automatically. The controls within the other forms are also anchored properly to resize themselves accordingly. But the problem is when i open a form in the splitcontainer, even if I resize the home form, the controls in the form within the splitcontainer aren't resizing. The reason is when the home form is resized the splitcontainer is resizing itself accordingly but the form inside the splitcontainer isn't (as forms don't have anchor or dock properties so I couldn't set them). As a result though the controls in the sub form are anchored to resize themselves yet they aren't.

View 7 Repliesi have created a windows form that has some labels, lines , buttons and i have enabled autoscroll property to true. i am having trouble with relocating and resizing of the controls with resizing of form and change in screen resolution.i have used a code liike dim tmpctrl as control
for each tmpctrl in me.controls
tmpctrl.setbounds((tmpctrls.location.x/X)*me.width, (tmpctrls.location.y/Y)*me.height, (tmpctrls.size.width/X)*me.width,(tmpctrls.size.height/Y*me.height))

now as my form is a scrollable form.and the total window portion with respect to which i want to resize n relocate. m having trouble in choosing X , Y in the above code.
I am desinging a form with mutiple controls on a tab page control and was moving controls between tab pages by cutting and pasting them. The forms designer obviously got confused at some stage and I now have controls that are declared in the designer.vb but do not appear anywhere on the form.
I can't even rename the controls that are there which have been given generic names to the names I want because they apparently already exist. I realise I could edit the designer.vb and remove the references to these controls but that seems fraught with danger?
I have been searching for a solution to this but I can't find one. I have played with the anchor and dock properties but they are not doing what I want, so here goes... I would like to place and size all of my controls on my form and then when the form is re-sized during run time (different resolutions, full screen/windowed, etc), have everything just scale up or down accordingly. Anchoring the controls to all four sides of my form re-sizes the control properly but it doesn't move it's location in sync with the other control's size next to it, they begin to overlap each other. Am I going to have to code my own scaling code for each control in my program?
View 5 RepliesI understand the page lifecycle and how i need to add the dynamic controls on page_init if I want to take advantage of viewstate. Also I know that I should try to avoid dynamic controls when possible. The dynamic controls are created depending on an object that is created from custom event arguments sent from a custom treeview. Problem is I need viewstate so I need to create them in page_init but I don't have the event args to create the object that tell me what controls to add until later in the lifecycle.
Private Function GetEventArgs() As npTreeViewEventArgs
Dim control As Control = Nothing
Dim e As npTreeViewEventArgs = Nothing
[code]....
I use this in page_init to create my object and controls.
I have a custom control which I add a number of to a flowlayoutpanel:
Dim drive As New WindowsControlLibrary1.UserControl1()
drive.FileSystemlable = reader.GetString(2)
drive.AbalableSpaceLable = Convert.ToInt32(reader.GetString(4) / 1024)
drive.TotalSpaceLable = Convert.ToInt32(reader.GetString(5) / 1024)
drive.SetVolumeLable = reader.GetString(3)

I created a control so that I can add label, txtbox and checkbox during runtime. I was able to do this successfully but after this, I need to get the state of this checkboxes every time the user check it, RUNTIME.[code]...
View 2 RepliesHow do you refer to controls that are added at runtime e.g. I can add a combobox and a handler, but trying to reference the controls name in code gives an 'not defined', error so in my example, the control is visible, but I cant populate the combo box or use it in anyway.
View 2 RepliesI was trying to make my program see if facebook.com was running in internet explorer.
I added the following
Private Function isFaceBookOpen() As Boolean
For Each ie As SHDocVw.InternetExplorer In New SHDocVw.ShellWindows()
Dim filename As String = System.IO.Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(ie.FullName).ToLower()
If filename = "iexplore" Then
[code]...
And added reference; Microsoft Internet Controls (COM tab) but i also need to add this reference; Microsoft.mshtml (.NET tab)
Problem is that i can't find that reference. BTW, I want the function to be triggered by a timer.
I have a number of user control dynamically added to a page, and user interaction with these dynamically added user controls need to be handled by the control's parent. Is this what is referred to as "event bubbling"?How do I do that in VB?
View 3 RepliesI am currently wokring on a project, which is going to serve as an interface for accessing various documentation and reports. It is basically just a tabcontrol with a few pages that will be poppulated with buttons which will open the appropriate document.I am trying to allow administrative users the ability to add new, edit or remove buttons which all seems relatiively simple, but have run into the problem of how to persist the changes once they are made. I want the setting to be stored centrally, either in a SQL table or on a network share
View 1 RepliesI am creating a program which allows the user to add some buttons during runtime. Each button can be moved, sized and added to any tab on a tabcontrol. What I would really like to do is binary serialize a class that contains the properties of each button including which tab it's on.

View 2 RepliesI've dynamically added 20 pictureboxes to a panel and would like to see the panel scroll when I use the mouse wheel. To implement this I have tried to set the autoscroll to true on the panel control. Here is the code.
For i As Integer = 1 To 20:
Dim b As New PictureBox()
b.Image = Nothing
[Code]....
It works for "button" control, but not for the "picturebox" or "label" controls?
How can I implementthe scrolling affect using 'mousewheel'?
I am trying to make a small control that has a picturebox and a few labels that can be dragged on the form it is placed on. The control was easy, and I can drag it fine when the mouse is down on the control, where there are no other controls, like not over the picturebox or labels.
When i try to click and drag the user-control and the mouse is on the picture box or labels of the control the mouse down event is not detected. I am hoping someone can tell me how to pass the mouse-down event from the controls on the user-control so the form I place it on detects the mouse down even no matter where on the control i click.
