Is AES A Viable Solution For Creating A Hash Verification System

I am writing a program that and like to implement data verification system. It needs to return a unique string for any value entered. My question boils down to: is it possible for an AES function to return the same value for two different entries? The source values will becoming from data held on a magnetic stripe card.

I've been looking around the web and while reading Wikipedia's article on SHA, I see that SHA-2 (SHA-256/224, SHA-512/384) have no detected collisions (assuming the article is accurate/up-to-date). This is desirable. Any recommendations on what version of SHA-2 I should use?

I have implemented a function that calculates the hash value of important system processes. I have a question that if new memory pages are created in the memory space of certain system processes wont their hash value change. Cuz the previously calculated hash values and after the memory pages are created are exactly the same.

I thought I'd give VB a go after developing with C# for the past few months. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 and have imported the VB IDE settings. I'm going through the same steps in VB as I've gone through in C# to create my solution for an n-tiered ASP.NET web application, but the results are unexpected. Here's the steps:
1. File > New Project > Other Project Types > Visual Studio Solutions > Blank Solution .... name the solution & choose the location ...
2. At this point, I want to proceed to add projects as follows by right-click on the solution in solution explorer
a. Add > Visual Basic > Web > ASP.NET Web Application ... name / location of the Web Client
b. Add > Visual Basic > Windows > Class Library.. name / location of the Business Layer
c. Add > VB > Windows > Class Library ... name / location of the Data Access Layer
BUT, as soon as I complete step 2a, the solution disappears from solution explorer. "Show all files" is selected. This happens regardless of the project I create first.

I seem to have some finger trouble creating a new application, here is what I am trying to do: I am trying to create a new solution and under the solution an exe (console project and a set up / deployment project. I have done this in the past and cannot see to do that any more.
Steps:
1. Create a new solution, the solution show in the solution explorer (with 0 projects)
2. Using "add" I create a console application (under the solution) and it shows a module etc. So far fine.
3. At this point the solution explorer windows only shows the console project and the solution itself (that used to show on the top) is gone. Now I am not able to add another project to my solution. I close my screen and then try to open the solution again. It comes up with the console project.

I am need to create a several applications that have reports based on data from Oracle, I have been trying to use Visual Web Developer Express and Visual Studio Express and have run into some big hurdles with things the Express versions won't do very well.My question now is Visual Studio 2003 still a viable product to use? I own a copy of 2002 and a 2003 upgrade and it has Crystal reports in it.

I've started using the FormView control to enable two way databinding in asp.net webforms. I liked that it saved me the trouble of writing loadForm and unloadForm routines on every page. Maybe it's a simple quiestion but i realy don't know how to solve it... i've searched on google bu i did not find any clue how can i check the MaskedTextBox..I have put the mask "##/##/####" (to serve as a date input) and i dont know how can i check this do not be empty... i have tried "__/__/____" and also " / / " and "##/##/####" but nothings working.

I am just down right confused right now... I made a slight modification to my games saving system, and it worked before this modification... I only changed "one" thing in the saving and loading of the save file system.
now it went from working when trying to verify the save data, to throwing this error when I enter the username of "test" and the password of "test...
there is not a save file for that combination of data, and prior to the save/load system edits, it would realize that, and throw a message box error that I made for that senario... but now, it does this when trying to load the human class. that save file that it is trying to load and verify that does not exist is supposed to be "test the human"

it is supposed to throw my message box stating that there is no file in that combination, and the edits that I made only write a description of what each line of code is in the game... I had also made a variable called "nulldata" that takes those lines of text, and keeps them out of the games loaded data, so for each string of text that I added, it is basically rendered useless upon the save file being loaded...if you enter valid save information, then it loads just fine... so I am just plain confused right now.

I have just finished college and I am awaiting my exam date. I have created some desktop applications for my portfolio, but now I want to create a Point of Sales (POS) system to add to the list.I notice in supermarkets and various shops that POS systems use touch screen monitors to interact with the program.My first question is, do I need to use different code or controls in my applications so they can be used with touch screen monitors.I have created an application for hotels for booking rooms (not for a client, just as a demo project), but if there is anyone out there who could give me some pointers on how to create the POS system.I will be doing some research and I will start designing some controls over the next few days. I have a program that I have gotten as far as programming it to inform the user of updates, have them push a button to download it. The updated version of the exe will be downloaded into a subfolder called "Updates", where there is a program called "Updater.exe"This program is one form, with a progress bar and informs the user the program is being updated. Every time I run through it step by step it appears to work, but in a real environment the program stalls out. It doesn't crash, but the bar continues to move with no action being taken. I can not help but wonder what on earth must be going on in the code, which you can see is quite sloppy and rather unweildy:[code]And there is of course the issue of not being able to change data on the hard drive without administrator privileges as is being discussed here: url... When I finally get a manifest working for this program to require administrator access....how could that screw up this updating process...How can I better perform this, what seems to me, simple process of deleting the old file and replacing it with the update?
