I have my control here, and when the control isn't drawing selected, it has a random notch in the border(as illustrated in the attached photo). It uses a graphics path which is generally used all around so nothing changes there. Other than the fact the control is marked "selected"(which only effects the colors). Still working on a very simplistic poker game and I'm struggling with getting the code to show my cards in picture boxes. I currently have 12 picture boxes set up on my form and when clicking the "deal" button I created on the form, I would like a random number to be generated from 1-53 and based on the number returned I would like a picture of a playing card entered into the picturebox. I would like this to happen in 10 picture boxes. So playing cards will be shown in the picture box on 10 of them and a the card back on the picture box 11 and 12. After hitting a second button, I would like the 11th and 12th boxes to display a card from the deck.
With all that being said my questions are:
1. How do I associate the random numbers with my playing cards? (I have my card pictures in a file on my computer.)
2. How do I get the picture of the cards into the picture boxes? What would the code look like?
3. I have a button to clear all the cards, but how to I program it.
I have drawn (3) lines on a panel, each a diff color. I want user to muse click on a given line to bring up a label that will explane what the line is telling the user. There s/b no bit maps involved. I am using graphics to draw the panels and lines.

My code above will draw the line but i can not see how to use path to get a "hit" on mouse move for the line?I use private routines to draw many panels and assign pens to colors and panels. I must be able to connect panel and line ID to pen name to know the nature of the line to label it! I can see that path must be used; but how?
I want to write a vb program to allow user to draw rectangle. User can click on a point as starting position and drag on the screen. A rectangle is drawn with the current mouse position and the starting position. The user then release the mouse as end position. When the rectangle is drawn, user can resize the rectangle by drag the border of the rectangle.

I have a Custom Groupbox that overrides the OnPaint event to do some custom drawing, backgrounds, etc. The problem I have is that when I use it in an application and want to draw text on the control, it gets drawn first, then immediately afterwards the OnPaint from the control gets called and draws on top of the text. Is there any way to get the text drawn after the control's OnPaint?

I am trying to build a tournament bracket application. In order to build the application efficiently I would like to make a user control "GameControl" that represents a game and give it attributes that represent the names of the competitors "TeamNameA" and "TeamNameB" ,an attribute "Winner" to represent which team should move on, and an attribute "NextRoundGame" that assigns another instance of the user control so that it can assign the "winner" to one of the "TeamName" attributes of the next round in the competition. If the controls were native to VB I feel like I could do it easily (I have only spent about 30 hours self teaching/tutorial following) but I can't seem to find out how to pass values to custom attributes of custom user controls through code.

Im working on writing a program for doing standard deviation and as of right now im running into one slight issue with subtracting my mean from the original numbers. I will post most of my code so you can get an over view but i mostly just want help on this one little part for now. Im going to be making a website for school and put some programming stuff on it so i wanted to make just some random programs for it so this is school related but not really homework. It's line 26 and 27 that this is relating to. When i put a stop in my code and look at the result of arrayDifferences it gives me 0.0 when it should be -1. I know i can go this route and say arrayDifferences(1) = arrayDifferences(1) - arrayAvg but seeing as how i want this to be a random number of numbers input by the user i cant do that.

View 1 Repliesi've created a hangman game (Fully working) but since you can only "play" with one phrase (10 letters) it gets boring fast. Basic the current game works by on form load i define the slots (10 string which each hold a letter) and give them there letter. then the user type in a text box and if the textbox = any of the slots then the lbl repasenting that slots changes its text from "_" to the letter.
Anyway what I would like the button to do is when the user presses the start button a random number is generated. The program then looks into a textfile and based on which number is generated it takes a certain line (10 characters per line in a phrase) , moves them into the slots and the game starts. Is that possible to code or it too complicated. The textfile will be in the applications folder (words.txt).

i am having sum textboxes and combos which have been populated accordingly. as in the attchment i enter the data in the textboxes/select values 4m combo and when click on save button all the related text is added to the datagridview's respective col. as desired. the problem is now that if suppose a user enters a wrong data and wants to edit/update the record already added the he will select the desired record from datagrid, double click and all the related data appears again on the combos and textboxes. the user then edits and click on save so that the selected record gets updated

I am trying to use the Web Browser control in my vb .net user control. I am using VS 2008. Finally, I will be calling my assembly (.dll) from a web page. I wanted to display the usercontrol with the web browser control inside this web page. The problem is I cannot proceed since the Web browser control cannot be called from a partially trusted assembly. Using VS 2008 I have created a strong name for my class, also added the <Assembly: AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers()> to the AssemblyInfo. But still the web browser control cannot be seen in my web page. Do you how I can make my assembly fully trusted so that it can access web browser control? If you have used web browser control, can you confirm if this step is really required?!

Can a usercontrol inherate an application defined class ie.. could you inheritance a classic rect class into a user control to add the hight and width properties to the control without having to do all the coding all over again? Currently I just declair a private instance of the class within the control and then encapsalate. It would be nice if I could just inherit all the functionality of my classes into controls designed to implament the classes.

i have created a control as above, this control allows me to import a png with alpha channel and random shape. and then it can display on top of any other control, i.e. textbox, picturebox,etc. and the background should always show what right under it, instead of just show its parent control. it worked if it's static mode, ie stand still in the form. but when i tried to drag/move it, the control wouldn't render itself properly,and also goes underneath other controls.
