Simple Boolean Function Which Checks If A Number Is Entered?
Jul 18, 2011
Simple code! where am I going wrong. I get end of statement expected in line 4 after valid.
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
If valid('0') Is True Then msgbox("HI")
End If
I've been trying to create a function that checks if a number is a prime. according to [URL]..I have created a function although It doesn't work as expected.
[Code]...
It sometimes returns true for composite numbers. oh and I know if you google it you get functions that do this, but most of them look inefficient so i'm trying to make my own.
First of all I'm trying to create a validator that checks to see that if both players have entered a nickname. If they don't then it should automatically close the form but instead the application hangs. If the first player uses three tries then it "should" automatically close. Here it is:
Sub getNickNames(ByVal Players() As String) erCount) 'Force Select Username. If More Than 3 Attempts Are Made The Game Will Exit To The Main Menu
I've got a basic logon form where if you enter the right password/username, it redirects you to the "MainMenu" Form How can I make a function called "checkLogon" that checks the username/password text to a variable in that function?
I am creating a 'generic input dialog': InputDialog(Of T).The idea is that I can create new instances of this dialog for different values of T. For example,I can create an InputDialog(Of String) and it displays a textbox.I create an InputDialog(Of Boolean) and it displays two radiobuttons (I could use a Checkbox, irrelevant).I create an InputDialog(Of Date) and it shows a DateTimePicker.
I do this by simply checking the type of T at run-time.In this way it is not really generic, as the dialog still has to know which type T is (which is usually not the case), but the generic is in the fact that the T can be multiple types that require a TextBox. For example, InputDialog(Of String), (Of Integer), (Of Single), (Of Double), etc, all simply display a TextBox (and it is validated later),so I still want to use generics as much as possible.Anyway, the result of the dialog is of course a property of type T. This property needs to return the value in the textbox, converted from string to T, OR the value in the DateTimePicker, converted from Date to T,OR the checked property of the 'Yes' radiobutton, converted from Boolean to T.In order to convert from any object to T I googled and found this
vb.net
Imports System.ComponentModel Public Class GenericTypeConverter Public Shared Function FromObject(Of T)(ByVal value As Object) As T Dim tc As TypeConverter = TypeDescriptor.GetConverter(GetType(T)) Return CType(tc.ConvertFrom(value), T) End Function End Class
I have to use this, I cannot simply CType a string to T since a String cannot be converted to any type T.So, my Result property looks like this at the moment:
vb.net
Public ReadOnly Property Result()[code].....
This actually works for Strings, Integers, Doubles, Singles, etc. I pass it the String in the textbox and it converts it to 'T'(note: T is then a String, Integer or Double!) just fine. So, it can convert a String to a String, Integer or Double without any problems (I am validating the text before using the Result property so it will always be a valid integer, double, etc). However, it does not work for a Boolean, nor for a DateTime. When I try that, it says "BooleanConverter cannot convert from System.Boolean" or "DateTimeConverter cannot convert from DateTime". I realize it is a bit of a strange thing, since the object already IS a Boolean or a Date(Time) so no conversion should be done at all, but this doesn't work in design-time because I need to return the objects as type T.I know that T will be Boolean when the value to be converted is a Boolean, and that T will be DateTime when the value to be converted is a DateTime, but the designer does not accept a simple CType. As I said, it does not accept this:
Return CType(rbYes.Checked, T) because 'Boolean cannot be converted to T'.
However, I did find a way to make it work, but it seems like a complete hack... I can assign the boolean to an Object and then convert that using CType:
Dim obj As Object obj = rbYes.Checked Return CType(obj, T)
This works, it's accepted during design-time, and it works during run-time, but it seems very wrong... Is there no better way to handle this?
I wanted to create a function that checks to see what button has been clicked on the windows form. For example If I had 10 generic buttons that open up different audio files. I would I create one Sub that can verify which button has been selected. I was either going to use a case statement or an if else. I did not want to create one sub for each button since it would be a lot of duplication in code.
I'm Trying to make a piece of software where You enter a number and the computer measures the length of the number, and then generates random numbers to match the human number. It will then count the number of guesses and the time taken. However it always comes up that there was a infinite loop "An unhandled exception of type 'System.StackOverflowException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll". I have searched up how to do this and I can't seem to find out how. I think I just put my wording wrong when looking it up. My Software Has Has 2 TextBox, 2 Buttons, 6 labels (4 just to make it user friendly) and a timer.
Here is the Code:
Public Class Form1 Dim TimeTaken As Integer Dim GuessesTaken As Integer
I have a class that needs to check for errors in the data contained in a object. The routines that will check for errors could be implemented in concrete interfaces of supertype IErrorCheck. That way error checks can be discrete and added or removed from the class that requests the error checks. Each IErrorCheck implementation would be programmed against the supertype IErrorCheck (Strategy). But it would be nice not to recompile when checks are added or removed. Is there an accepted procedure for abstracting the error checks all the way out of the program, such as to read the checks from a file?
Have a very nooby question here, textbox2 contains a number and if the number entered in textbox1 is higher than textbox2 i wish to display a message box but the following doesn't seem to be working properly?
Sometimes it lets the user enter a higher number, maybe I am doing this wrong?
Private Sub TextBox1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.TextChanged
I have a function that checks for wich dice have been rolled and scores them up in the correct boxes, now i want to be able to check the combined scores to see if they equal upto a full house. [code] and then listing every other possible combination, would there be a simpler way of doing it?
I wish to build and display a simple diagram that is built from data entered by the user. Because I can't post a picture of the types of diagrams here I'll use the following example. Image a picture of a house as a child might draw it a large square, with a triangle for a roof, a rectangle for a door, and two smaller squares for windows. Now I want to build an application that lets the user enter data and change that drawing according. For example, by entering the length and height of the house the size changes, change the number of windows, size of the door or height of the roof.
Now this may seem like a useless application but keep in mind the house is just an example the real purpose is different but should be as simply drawn. I'm looking for suggestions on make this work. Should I use a paint? or is something like this better done with a tie into the Visio references?
I'm making a class and I have a function in this class the is looking to see if a user account in enabled. Public Function IsEnable(byval user as string) as boolean 'if user is enables return true else return fulse end function What is it just does not find the user, how would I return an error that the person using the DLL could detect and catch?
This is just an efficiency question really.. I'm interested to know if there is a more efficient or logical way that people use to handle this sort of scenario.
In my asp.net application I am running a script to generate a new project my code at the top level looks like this:
Dim ok As Boolean = True ok = createFolderStructure() If ok Then ok = createMDB()
[Code]....
I create a boolean and each function returns a boolean result, the next function in this chain will only run if the previous one was successful. I do this because an asp.net application will continue to run through the page life cycle unless there is an unhandled exception and I don't want my whole application to be screwed up if something in the chain goes wrong (there is a lot of copying and deleting of files etc.. in this example).
Private Function CheckForNull(fieldvalue as string) as Boolean
That checks that all my fields are not empty? For example, say I have three fields txtFirstName, txtLastName, and txtAddress. How would I write the function above that would check that these fields were not left empty?
I have a math program that I am working on. One of the exercises has a random word and 6 radiobuttons. The user has to select the radiobutton that displays the exact number of letters in the random word. What I am having trouble with is creating a Public Function to check if the answer selected is the correct one. The radio buttons are within a groupbox. The Public Function returns a boolean True or False.
Imports System.Math Public Class Form1 Dim var_ghost As Object Dim var_number As Double Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load [Code] .....
My question is; when you enter a variable to inputbox like "100.5" it shall return a numeric value at line1 and "100,5" too. But when I need to check for entered value is a real number or not (Look line2) CDbl("100.5") returns 1005 CDbl("100,5") returns 100,5.
Here's my Module Module1 Dim Board(3, 3) As Char Dim PlayerOneName As String Dim PlayerTwoName As String Dim PlayerOneScore As Single [Code] ..... How can I make it come up with no error when no coordinate has been entered, basically instead of a number being enter, the return key is just pressed.
I have a HTTP class that gets content from URL's, POST's content to URL's etc and then returns the raw HTML content. In the function inside of the class it detects if there is a HTTP error and if so I would like to return false but will this work if I have declared the function to return a String?
Code Sample of what I am trying to do (Note the Return Content & Return False if a HTTP error code is detected)Public Function Get_URL(ByVal URL As String) As String
how to validate 4 textboxes so that only numbers 1 to 4 can be entered but no number can be repeated.i already have code but it only validates some of the boxes and allows numbers to be repeated in other
Public Class frmGrid Private Grid() As Short Private Const intDimension As Short = 3
I have made an countdown app that is working in a normal way (added picture of it). Now when I select a number in the numeric box and click start, it starts to count down from that many minutes, but what I want is the number I put in the box *3. So if I put in 3 (points) the counter will count down 9 minutes. If it is possible I want a counter at the bottom every 3 minutes the value of the 000 at the bottom of the image multiply by 1 (+1 for every 3 mins timer1 runs).
I am trying to program the hamming code in vb... theoretically i understand and know how to do everything, first problem I've encountered is dynamic arrays in vb.net ... is it possible to determine the length of an array from the number of items entered in it, since I have no means of figuring out an exact number or length prior to several mathematical function which outcome will be the data .. directly saved to the array !!
I have designed a form with textboxes for numerical entry. I need to validate each textbox so the number entered is an integer, and is between 0-1000. I am struggling to find how to validate the data entry.
