I have 6 different textboxes and 5 of them appear to update together. I have attached the project and was hoping that someone could look at it. Under the Event 1 Tab in the project I would like it to have 12 different buttons (6 Start Timers, and 6 Stop Timers) that control the time in the textbox. The program is meant to be a time trial keeper for qualification races.

I am using the read all lines to read all the contents of a file and store it in an array. I have used that data and display it to textboxes by splitting the lines. I want to now all if the user change the text in a text box, I want to write that updated information back to the file.

I want to take the values from textboxes on a windows form and then update the values in the sql server database...I want to update only those fields for which a value has been entered by the user and leave the database fields as it is (no change or updation) for which the textboxes are left empty by the user.....I opted for sql command and then i couldn't find out How can I generate the query dynamically for such a situation??? Like I intialize the string by str= " Update Bookings set " and then how i can alter it by considering the textbox values that have been changed....I couldn't find the way...I need shortest and optimized code for this situation....

This is the hardest part of LinqtoSql database handling operations in visual basic 2008 I ever encountered,w/c is the update operation cause Ive been posting this thread several times from the other forum site but noone yet was able to answer my question,examples were given but its not efficient cause it won't specify based on the codes i gave and i know its not easy but im still hoping that one of the answerers of this forum will be able to resolve this particular linqtosql operation codes. I used textboxes in manipulating all data into the database such as displaying records, adding records, & updating records, basically I used with textboxes in doing those database operations. I would like you to identify,differentiate, or troubleshoot the block of codes#3, or anyhow, why it has no progress at all or it won't edit and change the records but it runs and no error in regards with its code, and the other 2 blocks of codes were able to successfully do its operations.I was just wandering why only the block of codes#3 is not doing its operation successfully when you change the record being displayed in the textbox.Is there a possible way to edit records in the textboxes?If there is.... I have a connection string for my SQL database connection called my.settings.GCRConnectionString which was created when I created my dataset for the application. I want to change the value of the connection string but it give me an error saying it is ready only. Is there a way to update my connection string during the run-time?
View 4 RepliesI have an existing project written in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2005 communicating to a SQL Server 2005 database. The database was migrated to a sql server 2008 r2 on a different physical server so the dataset's server name needs to be updated. I do not have access to the database anymore. is there a way to just update the server name without invoking the dataset wizard and requiring a connection to the database?
UPDATE: I tried to created a new project with just a button with the command calling the following subroutine to test the connection from a windows app to the sql server database. here is the sub:

It seems like it should be pretty simple, I take in a file name as a parameter, create a new name for it, delete it, then try to copy it back from an older version of the same file, and update the connection string. However, it continually tells me that "The file 'filenamehere' already exists." If I set overwrite to true then it goes through just fine, except it doesn't actually copy the file. Obviously I also check the folder, and the file does in fact Not exist...I've also checked all the file paths and what-not, they are all accurate.

View 11 RepliesIn my form, A user can do some stuff on my program which will create a new tabpage with a text box on it. The user also selects the name of the tab, which is then the name of the textbox with a "2" on the end of it.
What I need to know is how to get the texts from however many tabpage's textboxes there are and combine them into one textbox, as a sort of receipt.

What I am trying to do is when the button is clicked, it takes an entered string from box one (which is validated to only accept numbers) adds 235 to it then converts it to hex and finally reverse the string and sets textbox two equal to that value. Note that the final string has to be eight digits so the string may needed to be padded with zeros before the string is reversed. With that said how could I go about doing this? Also I do plan to add 2 more textboxes and another button to undo this process but I am thinking if I can figure out do it one way writing the code to undo the process shouldn't be too hard.

I am using VB 2008 Express Edition. I made a little 3 form program to keep track of score while playing Gin. Now I'd like to make another score sheet application for a different card game with more people.I would like Form1 to have a textbox which the user may put a number in. Then on a button click that would take me to Form2 which would have the same amount of textboxes (name of player) as the user indicated on the first form.Eventually I'd like to build a UserControl (which would house the scoring for one player) and have Form3 populate with the same amount of UserControls as Form1.textbox indicates.

I've got a sub procedure to add the input to the list and clear the textboxes and enable another reset button.
So for the save button click event I run the sub procedure and I've written a for next loop to display the results from the list. The first name I enter is all good, but with the second name entry both the first and the second name gets listed as well as the first name that is already there. I thought about using the .clear function to clear the list after each input, but I also want to incorporate laptimes in the list and display the best time in a lable at the bottom of the form. Maybe also sort the list, so I need the data in the list to stay intact.

i've done some basic parsing with text files before.
Scenario is i have 4 textboxes String (which contains the string i'm wanting to parse) sub1, sub2, and sub3. so the string is ex. 500000-1-2
- is the char that is the seperator
so the aim here is to get
500000 into sub1
1 into sub2
2 into sub3
the real string i'm wanting to parse is much more complex, but i'm keeping it simple here for a jumping off point so i can figure the rest out.

I am having problems with creating this change problem. The idea is that the user puts the amount of money in the textbox and then in separate textboxes shows Dollars, Quarters, Dimes, Nickles and Pennies.
