I some code that looks to see if a certain program is running when the form is open. If the program is open it puts Running in a label, if it isn't running it says not running.What I want to do is repeat this process every 5 or 10 seconds. I have never used a Timer before so not sure where to start.

Hoever, in my version i don't want any colors to repeat. I used the random function independently to get numbers from 1 to 6. Each number has a corresponding color. The problem, the values still repeat sometimes.

View 3 RepliesI am working on a poker game and I have the game setup the way I want it in terms of graphics and I have the code programed to deal the cards out exactly how I want them. Granted, the code is very simplistic, but functional for a new programmer like myself. I'm sure there are other more efficient ways to code my game, but I like mine so far because I can at least understand the majority of it. With that being said, here are a few problems and questions that I have.
1. How come when all 12 cards are dealt out I have some cards repeating in the game? For example, I get queen of diamonds in more than one picture box when I only want the card to be dealt once and then removed until the next game.
2. I was hoping to have a button 3 to clear all the boxes, basically resetting the game to the next game. When I hit button 3 it only clears the contents of picturebox 10 and 12.Other notes: I have the deal down the way I want it. It deals the first 10 picture boxes and a second button deals the 11 and 12 picture boxes.
3. I know this is my next step so I want to post it with the code I currently have. I want to start taking my project one step further by evalutating each of the three rows of cards (3 rows of 3 cards each - I'm not worried about the dealers hand (picture box 10, 11, 12 yet). So I want to evaluate a row of pictureboxes against a "pay scale" and display the win in a text box or label next to the 3 card hand. For example, Q of diamonds, Q of Clubs, Q of spades would win 15, etc. ( have a weird feeling I may have to change the names of the cards (I have them named card1, card2, etc. right now) to something that identifies them in order to evaluate the hands.

I am trying to implement a progress bar into my code but it seems to not run when another section of code is running. I set a timer to run when the ok button is clicked and it should then start the progress bar but also when clicking the ok button whatever radio button is selected also runs. The window is always on top of every other window, and is active even though it doesn't have focus. View 1 RepliesI have created a windows service and I have two different timer variables in there. 1st one fires off every 5 seconds and then does whats it is required to do. The second one fires every 30 seconds.
I make sure that when the function are getting executed I disable both the timers and enable once the function is complete.My problem is my second longer (30 second ) timer never fires only the first one is firing. I had created this service 3 months ago and it was working fine till now. But now I do not see the timers work properly in a simple windows app i created to test their workings.

The main problem with the plugin is that it uses web browser control and once it has filled a form it will need to navigate another form. The form can only be filled once it has completely been loaded.so my approach is
1. navigate to first site when form loads

3. this is the main step. you see when main form loads, i=1 so browser goes to google.com (first form), when form is completely loaded, itchecks for value of i. Since i=1, it fills google. After filling and continuing i=2 and browser goes to my personal account page. This means browser again loads the document. Now i=2, so it fills my personal detalis. Now the timer starts. Since i=3, browser navigates to second site and fills the details.

now the problem arises. The browser does not go to the third site. Once the timer has been stopped and started, the following code does not goto the elseif part (i.e. i=5) why is that so?
This timer code is for VB6 and worked fine, It's to change the timer seconds into minutes, I'm not sure how to make this work for 2008 though.

I am a new member that has just start coding. Im currently working on a small application for a desktop that will give me information from my system. I have code that works but might not be great. I have code that checks that the network is connected but need it to keep checking and updating. I Have tryed loops, goto and timers but not having any luck. I get like bunch of msgbox and when i break point the timer dosn't go to the end it just reach to the msgbx and then repeat again from the beginning , i dont know why, i removed the timer and made new one but still the same problem.
Out of curiosity, is there a way i can make a program stop or pause for a period of time (which i would choose) before continuing the code WITHOUT a timer.I think I've seen this done before, but I'm not positive.Also note that I'm talking about a forms application (not a console app if that would be any different.)

View 6 RepliesI need an accurate timer to interface a Windows application to a piece of lab equipment.I used System.Timers.Timer() to create a timer that ticks every 10 msec, but this clock runs slow. For example 1000 ticks with an interval of 10 msec should take 10 wall-clock seconds, but it actually takes more like 20 wall-clock sec (on my PC). I am guessing this is because System.Timers.Timer() is an interval timer that is reset every time it elapses. Since it will always take some time between when the timer elapses and when it is reset (to another 10msec) the clock will run slow. This probably fine if the interval is large (seconds or minutes) but unacceptable for very short intervals.Is there a function on Windows that will trigger a procedure every time the system clock crosses a 10 msec (or whatever) boundary?
UPDATE: System.Timers.Timer() is extremely inaccurate for small intervals.I wrote a simple program that counted 10 seconds several ways:
Interval=1, Count=10000, Run time = 160 sec, msec per interval=16
Interval=10, Count=1000, Run time = 16 sec, msec per interval=15
Interval=100, Count=100, Run time = 11 sec, msec per interval=110
Interval=1000, Count=10, Run time = 10 sec, msec per interval=1000
It seems like System.Timers.Timer() cannot tick faster that about 15 msec, regardless of the interval setting.Note that none of these tests seemed to use any measurable CPU time, so the limit is not the CPU, just a .net limitation (bug?)For now I think I can live with an inaccurate timer that triggers a routine every 15 msec or so and the routine gets an accurate system time. Kinda strange, but...I also found a shareware product ZylTimer.NET that claims to be a much more accurate .net timer (resolution of 1-2 msec). This may be what I need. If there is one product there are likely others.
I have a timer on a page in ASP.NET.
After a certain period of time elapses, I want to disable the timer.
I want to put a static variable in the timers tick event that will track how many seconds have elapsed.
My question is, will this work?
If user X and Y are viewing the page will they both have separate local static variables?
What is the best method of shutting down an ASP.NET timer after a certain elapsed time?
