.net - VB 2010 Express: Debug.WriteLine Optimized Away Completely In Debug Version?
Aug 31, 2011Simple question that does not seem to be covered: If I use a lot of Debug.WriteLine statements in my code, will they be completely absent in my production version?
I mean: Is the compiler smart enough to not emit any code for those calls? Or would I have to surround them by #if DEBUG..#end if directives?
Unable To Debug After Publishing The First Time?
May 14, 2009I have been writing a program in vb(in visual studio 2008) for 5 months now. Today i went to publish it and went through the publish wizard. It worked fine but now i can't debug my program in visual studio. I hit the debug button it starts and completes the build and the does not do anything. Is their some thing that i may have unknowingly changed when i published the program? Or a setting that i need to change now that i have published the program?

Basically what I am trying to do is have my webpage project folder located directly on my local machine (ex. Local #1).Our database is located on a server (ex. Server #1). I am building my web applications on my local machine and then trying to debug them in Visual Studio 2008. Unable To Debug Web Service Project In Visual Studio 2008
May 19, 2009I've been assigned a web app written in VB using VStudio.net 2003. I am trying to configure the source on my localhost (VStudio 2008) so I can explore and learn about the current app (before I begin any real changes) and I cannot get debugging working for the web service project(s).
Symptom 1: "Unable to automatically step into the server. The remote procedure could not be debugged. This usually indicates that debugging has not been enabled on the server. See help for more information". This happens when I try to F11 (stepInto) the proxy class which invokes my actual web method.
Symptom 2: Pre-setting a breakpoint in my .asmx file code on the statement that will be invoked does not work (i.e. the debugger simply doesn't stop). Having described the situation, here's how my VStudio Solution is configured: Service1 - project created from the VB - WEB - ASP.NET Web Service Application template; this Service1 project contains my main .asmx source code I want to debug. Oct 19, 2011I upgraded to VB2010 from VB2008 early this year and have been working on a Windows Service which I am now debugging. When I was using VB2008 in Windows XP SP3 I would put a Stop statement in the code and when execution got to it a dialog would open asking if I wanted to debug it using a development environment listed in a provided list. The list contained the VB2008 VS IDE which I selected which would in turn transfer me to the IDE in debug mode. I was very happy with this setup.
Now I am using VB2010 with Windows 7 and when the execution reaches the Stop statement the service just stops. It no longer offers the choice and ability to "jump" into the development environment via the dialog that I mentioned.[code]...

Aug 17, 2010I've received a project from a friend and the Debug platform is set to "Active (Itanium)",so I changed it to x86, saved, closed the "My Project" window, and debugged. Same message:Error while trying to run project. Cannot start debugging. The assembly to be debugged was built with a platform incompatible with the current system." I went back into My Project > Debug and it's been set back to Active (Itanium). I tried everything and looked around Google, has no-one else had the same problem? How do I fix it?

Sep 8, 2011When i try to save my program an error pops up telling me that it cannot debug because some sort of file is missing... While my other projects just work, and while i repeat the same steps (placing an entity like a button, coding it), it just shows that error. Its really strange!

Sep 26, 2011I have an app I'm developing using vb/vs2010. It's an x86 app running on a 64 bit machine. It hangs when I run it in the debugger or the debug exe. When I run the Release exe, it runs fine. System memory doesn't seem to be a problem. I show 1.8 gig free after I load the Release version. I show a similar number when the debug is hanging. Just to make it all really mystifying, the debug version works if I step through it a line at a time.

May 1, 2012I am working on a project in Visual Basic .NET 2010 on Windows 7 SP1 that previously ran fine in Windows XP SP3 but has recently started crashing immediately upon running the executable. I have made several additions/changes since the last time it was tested on XP, so it is difficult to pinpoint what might be the problem. (I commented out all of the start form's _Load event, which causes the form to load with no events triggered in the IDE, but the program still crashes in XP, so I suspect it's something other than my code, though I don't know what else could have changed to trigger it.)

I place a break point on the enumerator = searcher.Get.GetEnumerator() line, and it exits and runs the app after moving past the While enumerator.MoveNext line (into the While loop). No code runs after this point.

Jun 30, 2011I'm getting the 403 Forbidden error while running a VS 2010 in debug mode. It gives me this error as it tries to read thru an XML File. See attachment. This is a web app and it's reading an XML file that retrieves the DB/Server information. It's not the Web.Config file but just a regular xml file. This file is read by every application in our system. Not sure why it suddenly started doing this. I've created the virtual directory on our IIS Server and set permissions on the C:inetpubwwwrootAppName directory of my C: drive where the app resides.
