Convert String To Integer With Variable Decimal Sign?

Nov 22, 2011

I am currently looking into the conversion of a string value to an integer. Obviously I will need to do some validation as to whether the passed value is in fact convertible to an integer.

At the heart of my question is this: the users' local is nl-BE (dutch (Belgium)), which means that we use a comma as decimal sign (and points as thousands separator); e.g. 123.456,78 would be a valid nl-BE number. Now, when using the numeric keypad, the
decimal key will yield a point, not a comma (weird huh!). So many user will enter 123456.12 and when converted to an Int, this should yield 123456.

The thing is that I want to cover all possible angles; both points and commas may be used as decimal sign by the users. So I wondering if anyone has written some code that deals with such a situation. I was thinking of an extension method that makes the
conversion based on whether a point or a comma is last used in the passed string (since no thousands separators should occur after the decimal sign).

Changing A Decimal Into A Whole Number?

Mar 31, 2011

I am attempting to take the decimal places of a given input, round it so there are only two decimal places, then change it to a whole number. So far I have been able to remove the integer part of the number, leaving only the decimal, but the other procedures are eluding me. Here's what I have so far: (VB 2008)

Private Function DecimalNumber(ByVal number As Double) As Double
Dim Input As Double
Dim SubtractNumber As Decimal

[Code]....

That code returns the decimal part of the input just fine, and I thought maybe multiplying it by 10 would work....but obviously you run into problems when there is more than one decimal place.

Combobox - .net Cascading ComboBoxes Connected To DataSet From Access - Changing Units And Decimal To Fractions?

Oct 2, 2011

I have a DataSet with a DataTable that has several numeric columns of Data. The numeric data is composed of distances given in U.S. Standard units. I currently have my ComboBoxes set up and working, but I need to expand on what I currently have in two ways.I need to be able to convert the Decimal numbers in my data column being displayed to Fractions, is there a way to do this and maintain databinding? In this case its the Display Member of the data source...I need to be able to display my drop down options in different sets of units... I've written Unit Conversion classes to help take care of this, but I don't know if I can somehow do this as well and maintain databinding? I'd like to convert the units on the display members as well...

Private Sub ComboBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles ComboBox1.SelectionChangeCommitted
Select Case ComboBox1.SelectedItem

[code]....

What is the best approach for using ComboBoxes when dealing with issues such as displaying fractions and units...

VS 2008 - Webclient Object And POST Data - Sign In Error

Oct 7, 2011

I've managed to narrow down my issue to a simple annoyance. I had a Webbrowser control mostly coded to navigate around an Oracle CRM On Demand site to generate metric reports, but then realized when I tried to build in the auto-download part, that the Webbrowser object wasn't going to give me the behind-the-scenes control I wanted. Searching online, it seems the Webclient control might be a better route. However I'm stuck trying to get by the login page so I can use the Download-File method to get my generated xls report. [Code] But every reply from the server has "Sign In Error: Both a user sign in ID and a password must be given." which tells me the form/post data isn't getting where it needs to go (It thinks the form is blank at [Code].

The above username and password are bogus of course, but once I can get a different reply then 'the fields are blank' I can worry about correct logon information. I'm just not sure what I'm not doing correctly or if I need to include something else. Since it's a publicly accessible site and I'm stuck getting something in the form to be 'seen', it should be easy for others to try and test.

Rounding Up Decimal Numbers To The Nearest 2 Decimal Places?

Apr 17, 2010

How would I go about rounding up decimal numbers to the nearest 2 decimal places? For example $7.0000032 would be $7.01 In theory, VB would make it $7.00 but if it is > $7.00, I want it to reflect that to the nearest penny... so $3.0000001 would be $3.01

Two Decimal And Three Decimal Rounded Numeric Value

VS 2008 Converting Hexadecimal To Decimal

Jul 7, 2009

This program, it reads in a file, and displays it in hexadecimal, like using a hex editor. It then goes to compare the strings and whatnot, and display certain values. During the program, there is a time where I need to display a set of offsets as decimal because that is the way that it is shown regularly.

Taking the two specific offsets and displaying them in hex ends up giving me something like "3039" or "000A", which should respectively convert to 12345 or 00010. This "ID" that I am converting, can be 00000 to 65535, which in hex is 0000 to FFFF. The current method I was given only works if the value is less than 512 or something like that.

VS 2008 Rounding To Two Decimal Places?

Jun 12, 2010

I have constructed my program. I had my price variable originally set to integer, but I found this was causing me errors as the numbers were just being rounded to the nearest 10 and not the exact decimal place.

I have since changed the variable to a decimal and now see this in the errors box, how do I elminate this error?"A first chance exception of type 'System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception' occurred in System.dll"

Secondly, it is producing the correct price but only to one decimal place. How do I get it so it displays the price to two decimal places?

1 - 6" section.

This initial value could be any number from 3-16, in .5 increments. (3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, etc.)
