I can add new data to the database and have it saved and everything (though my method not be great, but it works) but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to edit existing data and save it. assume it would be better to have it check whether or not the row exists, and if it does, just update it rather than trying to insert new rows? I am trying to edit, add, and update my database. I have the code for updating and it updates fine (I can see the modified time on the file), but I was wondering why none of my changes were being saved when I closed the window. Then I realized I was an idiot and I don't have any code to actually accept edits on this form, I just have code for updating and adding new rows It wouldn't update without me telling it which rows have been edited and need updating, right I mean I can't just type a new value in the textbox, click save, and expect it to save the change.This is the update and new row code I'm using:

in my visual basic 2008 express edition project I have 2 forms (paxreportfrm,paxsearchfrm).I want to give inputs in paxreportfrm and save the record(which is working fine).then in paxsearchfrm i want to search depending on multiple criteria (working ok).when i click on the record which is in gridview in the search form,opens up the paxreportfrm again with all the details of that specific record (working fine). I have a workbook (Workbook1) that runs through some steps using visual basic, which ends up opening another workbook Workbook2). Once Workbook 2 is opened, I need to copy a section of data from it, into Workbook1 int a specific worksheet. I was able to do this by recording a macro, but the challange is, the name of Workbook 1, and Workbook 2, will vary by User. When I created the macro it uses the files as they are currently named. I'm having problems editing the text of a particular column in a datagridview from the front end. The text enters ok but as soon as the cell loses focus it goes back to the old value. The datagrid view readonly property is set to false and I don't have any problem writing to the other columns.

well this may be a simple question to some but for me, im not even sure where to start. I have never done a program in VB.NET yet that uses a MySQL database. So this should be a fun thing to learn. I looked at an example for access databases and it seemed pretty straight forward. But I must use MySQL as the database is on a Linux server in Ohio.
What I got so far is how to connect to the database using ADODB. Here the example I'm giving. You got 4 col's call AccountNum (primary key), Phone, Name, and Address. For each row is data of a client. What I'm trying to do: the program asks for the account number. You type in the account number of the client. It then compares it to the rows of AccountNum col till it finds a row with it. Then it asks if you'd like to change the phone number or address.

I've never used nested SELECTs in SQL before so I'm not sure if I did it right. Aside from that, this is all stuff I've done before so I'm relatively sure that it's all correct. Finally, there are no errors being reported when I debug, although the updates don't seem to be coming through from the text fields (txtContent.Text isn't changing to reflect the new value).

i am working on an application titled Asset Management for my b.tech major project.The company under which i am pursuing it only asked me to include sumitting asset information,,retrieving information and generating reports and editing of data with admin login.I made all that but my college faculty is not impressed with it.I will be if somebody can tell me what features do i add to it and how do i make it more interesting.
It seems like when there is only one row at the data grid view with a data source pointing to a data table, it's row state for the data table doesn't change when editing. It remained "unchanged" reguardless to how many columns I had entered. However,after editing, when you click on a different row or click on any of the column headers to change their sorting, the row's state from the data table then gets changed to "modified". I'm not sure why the data table's row states gets changed only when you do those things instead of finishing editing itself. Couldn't the data grid view be able to change the data table's row states when you finished editing a cell?
Ok so here's my problem. I am trying to make it so when you push a button it will add a new character to my listbox. Everytime I go to add a new character its data replaces the existing ones I have already added to the list. I know what's doing it because it's using ThisNewCharacter everytime the button is pushed, I do not know how to work around it tho! I want it so it will continue to add new characters to the list when the button is clicked that doesn't replace the other characters data.

I have my battle systems code set to (attempt) to replace the test enemies data with the data that I have saved into a text file every time you either kill the enemy, or you leave the battle and come back to it... or if youve run away from the enemy.ive got two functions in the battle page, one of which is an agressive attack, the other of which is the running away function, and both of them are supposed to run the function that resets and reloads the enemies data from a text file, yet none of them are doing what they are supposed to do...
the problem that I am having is that when I either run away, or I kill the enemy, its data is never reset to the baseline of 2000, it is always, in the case of running away, what it was when I ran away, or if I killed it, it is a random value less than 2000...

I've also created the Excel file and placed it on my C: drive, but the problem I'm having is trying to send the data from the VB form to the Excel file itself.
