VS 2008 Reading SMBIOS -x64 Bit Version Of PCPBIOS And There Doesn't Appear?
Dec 12, 2008
We have an IT Management System that we built in house and it scans all of our computer to get hardware and software information.One of the key bits of information it used to report back was Computer Manufacture and Serial code (although didn't work on every machine). We achieved this by running an external utility (PCPBIOS.EXE) and reading in the results to get the information we required. However this tool does not run on x64 bit machines.
I tried searching for a x64 bit version of PCPBIOS and there doesn't appear to be one so I was wondering if anyone can point me in another direction. I know there is WMI but from what I have been reading online this does not provide the SMBIOS information correctly. If this is not the case I could get WMI working for that (we are already using WMI for other information).

I want to enable auto updating on my vb app.So I got Project--> Properties--> click the Application tab. Click the Assembly Information button --> Update the Assembly version. Then click ok.Then I build my app. Then I click the Publish Wizard. I specify the location to publish the app. It is an ftp folder.Then I click Next.It asks how will the user Install the app.I select FROM a CD-ROM.then I go next.It asks where will the app check for updates.I specify the same ftp folder.then I go finish. And it publishes to the ftp location.Then I get the setup file from that location and run it on my pc. It loads my app fine. then I build and publish again. But when I copen my app it doesn't update with the latest version.

I'm trying to add functionality to my application that will disable buttons and checkboxes depending on what version the OS is when the app is launched. I made a test app to test this but unfortunately I can not get it to work. Here is my code:
'OS Check
Dim osValue As Object
osValue =
My.Computer.Registry.GetValue("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrent Version", "CurrentVersion", "5.2")
[Code]...
*Note - 5.2 is Windows 2003, 6.0 is Vista, 5.1 is Windows XP

How they relate and differ from each? What are the best practices for version control? Is there a primer about publish online? Or a good book?
And is it possible to make ClickOnce and a msi in one solution of VS 2008? If so, is there any conflict or pitfall?
BTW I am using VB if that makes any difference.

Whenever I build my VB.Net project, the Assembly version does not automatically update as it is supposed to with the * in the third box in the Assembly Information. The only way I have found to (sometimes - it doesn't always work) get the version number to update is to Clean the Project, remove the *, Rebuild, reClean, put the * back in, and Rebuild again. What could be causing this issue to happen?
I should note that my coworker reports no such issue on his machine when Building the same Project; also, I must admit to some confusion on my part as to how this behavior is even possible, given that the error persists even if I remove every possible intermediate file I can think of that could possibly even be carrying the old version number, so how does it even know the old version number?

I'm attempting to create an app which uses a vendor-supplied Web Service. They provided sample code to show how to work with the Web Service, but all the code is in C#.. not a huge deal.I opened one of their demo projects and it compiles fine, works perfectly.
So, I open up MY project, drop in the converted code and... wait for it... ERROR!Here is the working C# code that IS working:
C#
private void DoSomethingWithTheAlarm(G4T.enAlarmAction action) { XML_AlarmClearRequest[] ClearRequest = new XML_AlarmClearRequest[lstAlarms.SelectedItems.Count]; int idx = 0; foreach (ListViewItem lvItem in lstAlarms.SelectedItems) { ClearRequest[idx] = new XML_AlarmClearRequest();

I have created a license system for my application with MySql about half a year ago. What it would do is take the serial number and send it to my server if the key was correct it would return a 0 if its wrong the return value would be a 1.The problem was that when the serial number was entered correctly my program would create a "fake file" for example vb.dll in the system.And on run time my program would check for that vb.dll if the file exist it would skip my trial program and run the app as a full version. Half year later i think creating a "fake file" and checking for it on start up is extremely wrong and that's not very good security.How can i check the difference between a full version and unregistered version?

This problem makes it so that when I view the data, any fields with text are blank - only integer values show.
Code:
Dim PathToCsvFiles As String = "\\umpqua\companies\shared\MLImports\"
Dim FileName As String = "Strategy.csv"
[CODE]...
Also it is pipe delimited so I have a Schema.ini
[Strategy.csv]
ColNameHeader=True
CharacterSet=ANSI
Format=Delimited(|)

And I want to insert the values of these into predefined bookmarks in a Word document. This works great if the key is there, but if it isn't, I want the code to skip that and continue trying the next one in the array. I've got the code that looks like this:

I would like my program to overwrite its previous version such that users don't have to uninstall the previous version before installing the new one.
I'm guessing it has something to do with setting Publish Version (Major, Minor, Build, Revision), Assembly Version or File Version.

I hope this is the right place to ask, because I can't seem to find an appropriate forum. The newgroups were so better organized and topic specific.I am running VS 2008 Pro SP1 on Windows 7 32-bit SP1. I am trying to get a simple VB Forms app to compile in Release mode rather than Debug. On Windows XP that worked fine for me. Now when I go into the Project Properties and set compile options to "Release" and click Save, when I close the properties page and re-open it reverts to Debug mode.

I need to detect if any version of the .NET framework is installed as we are deploying a .NET 2.0 app via logon script (ie XCOPY deployment) to all PCs in our network. The .NET app will be set to start when a user logs in, so we need to determine if .NET 2.0 (or higher) is installed before we deploy the app otherwise the user will get an error each time they log in. Is there any sure fire way to detect .NET via vbscript or batch file? All of the results I have found on google don't seem to be that reliable.
I have recently written a program that detects installed programs in the same way that Add/Remove Programs does but the problem with this is that even Add/Remove Programs does not seem to show the .NET framework on all PCs that have got it installed (like my home PC for example, definitely has .NET 3.5 installed but its not in the Add/Remove Programs list).

Is it possible to reduce the version of .net framework of my application. For example: Host using my application have .NET 2.0 I make changes in my app so that it always run as .NET 2.0 not the latest .NET 3.5
Or another idea i have is to deploy .NET 3.5 in installation package i.e. if he runs my app and it detects .NET version and if its not .NET 3.5 then .NET 3.5 installer should open else my app should run.
