What I'm trying to do is show a form while a background process is running. Similar to a progress bar but not a progress bar. We have a form that has an animated gif (customer request) and that's it. no other controls. They want this form to show while the processing in the background is running.

I want to run some dos commands (eg: a ROBOCOPY) and show the output from this realtime in a text window to show the user something is happening. The command may take a number of minutes so it's important the output is showing in the VB application realtime, and not just all at the end. Obviously the user will wonder what is happening during this time.

I am trying to run powershell script from VB and I want to see the output of the script as it is running inside a console application. With my script (shown below) when I run from powershell it shows "Command Sleep Starting" and then waits for 5 seconds and then displays the other text.
However, when I run from VB.NET program, the execution waits for 5 seconds and dumps all the text output at once. It doesn't execute first Write-Output command and then wait and then output as it should.[code]...

In Form1 there are a lot of boxes like checkbox, label....I want to show a processing message for opening serial port after program running. So I created Form2 specifically showing "Opening Port...". So in Form1_Load() I used Form2.Show(). However this message showed behind of Form1. I think this was executed before all the other tool boxes loading. So where should I put Form2.Show()?

I have developed a program with vb2010, created an installer with installaware and installed the program on my develop laptop and on my normal desktop pc (both win 7 64bits, but program runs on 32 bits). So on my laptop it run perfectly, but when I try to run it on my desktop pc, the only thing I see is the admin message (the program needs admin rights) and than nothing happends (even checked the taskmanager, it shows the program for a short while and closes it even as fast as it opens).I don't know what went wrong, the installer checks the framework which is needed (4.0), but I have that already installed on my desktop pc.

im v ery new to VB, im designing a game launcher within VB and everything is very simply done. I have 4 buttons currently, 3 of them link to websites and work a charm, but what i need is a 4th button to launch a game via a .cmd file. I tried by using simple commands like:
Shell("C:Program Files (x86)NCsoftAtomixatomix.cmd")and Process.Start("C:Program Files (x86)NCsoftAtomixatomix.cmd")
Both of these options worked in executing the .cmd but it caused an error within it. The cmd works perfectly fine when executed manually from its directory but when i try and execute it via the launcher i get an error.

Just tried it with a .bat file also getting the same issue of not being able to find the bin32

Basically what I have are two loops, one inside the other, that will run until the given condition is met. Exactly what I want. My problem is that I want to be able to use the controls, like buttons, while a loop is going on.
I originally did not think of this until I had built this part of my program, what I want to know is if there is a way to use controls while a loop is going on or if their is an alternative.
1)I know timers can be used to meet these goals, but they did not work out as I had hoped and using two timers (1 to represent each loop) I do not believe is efficient.
2)I have considered using recursion, but have found this may not be very efficient either and am not quite sure if this will do what I want.
These loops run as long as the number the user inputted. So it could theoretically run for 100,000+ times. I am not looking for speed, but it would be good if there were a faster method that allowed me to use controls while it loops.

I've just created a program in Visual Basic.NET 2010 Express Edition, and the program works great on my computer. Unfortunately, when I try running it on other computers, the process on the Task Manager for it comes up for literally 2 seconds and then goes away, and the program does not run. Basically, the program doesn't open. I'm not sure why this is happening, and I'm not getting any errors.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit, and I've tried getting it to work on two other computers, with no luck. The first one had Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit, and the second one had the same operating system as my computer. All computers have the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile installed, which is what my application is compiled to work with. I also tried compiling it to use .NET Framework 4 (without the Client Profile), and that didn't help.
If it helps, my References are as follows (which I believe are the defaults):
- Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks.Vs
- System
- System.Core

I have a form which has a menu bar. This bar then has sub-menus i.e. the top menu is passwords and the 2 sub menu's are change password and delete password. This works fine when the user selects the menu item by clicking with the mouse
Private Sub ChangePasswordToolStripMenuItem_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles ChangePasswordToolStripMenuItem.Click
PasswordForm.ShowDialog()
End Sub
What I want to do is under certain conditions run the menu item automatically from within the code.

Attached is a sample program which demonstrates the problem I am having.
When the user loads the program they are presented with Form1. If they press Button1 without ticking the checkbox they are presented with Form2 which contains a toolstripmenu.
When they select toolstripmenuitem1 Form3 then appears as a child form of Form2.
The problem comes when they tick the checkbox on Form1. It is meant to load Form2 then automatically select toolstripmenuitem1 to load Form3 but instead it only displays Form3.

I am attempting to complete an assignment for my Intro VB class and it is giving me a good bit of grief.
The assignment calls for at least 8 checkboxes with corresponding labels and one more label displaying the total amount due. I know that I am supposed to declare a form wide variable and then add/subtract from the variable within the even for the checkbox being checked.
I get the appropriate amounts to show in the corresponding labels but they wont add in the total due label.

I'm creating a 2D RPG game, the character moves by pressing the keys A (left) and D (right), this activates a timer that increments the x.position of the character by 1 pixel in case you press D, or decrements if you press A. The movement of the main character is always perfect and smooth and this is how I want to do it, but when I add other character and I animate them using the same method, they dont have a smooth movement, but if I press A or D these characters regain a smooth movement, so, basicly, the second timer (which is always enabled) only increments a value smoothly if the 1st timer (not enabled) is activated.

I want to expand it a little bit and add a second timer that runs parallel to the first timer, but is not affected in any way shape or form by the first timer.
I want the timers to run like this:
Time Timer1 Timer2
0 X X
1 X
2 X
3 X
4 X
5 X X
6 X
7 X
8 X
9 X
10 X X
Ive tried nesting the second loop in the first loop but the second loop takes 3 seconds to complete, so I found that it froze the first loop till the second loop finishes. I was reading about system threading (System.Timers.Timer) and it seems like that is the route I want to go.
I wrote this quick as an example:
This assumes that I added a windows timer control as timer1
vb
Option Strict On
Imports System
Imports System.Timers
