Zip Code (Numbers Beginning With 0)?

Jun 7, 2011

All appears well, except for the zip codes that begin with a zero. I'm using a case statement to verify the zone, but VS2010, helpful as it is, removes the the lead zeros, after which said zip codes won't verify.strZip is put in through a text box, and a debug.writeline will tell me that VS stores it correctly, with the leading zeros. But when I get to the Case statement, it just will not let me look for a zero initiated number. I felt I was doing well by going with a string rather than something more numerical, but that apparently isn't enough.

Excerpt:
dim strZip as string
Select Case strZip[code]....

Ignoring Lines Containing Certain Numbers (Code Included)?

Dec 3, 2009

Basically I want to have a lines that contain certain numbers ignored. Where lines that do not contain those certain numbers show up in textbox1.text.For Instance.In the code I want it to ignore all lines that contain "1234" and "1645" when it reads Accessed.txt, and output every line that does not contain those numbers. So if a line contains "78910" it would output that line into textbox1.text.Here is what I have so far, and it works as long as I only have 1 if not contains statement. When I have more than one, it doesn't work at all and just outputs everything in the text file.

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) _

Dim r As New System.IO.StreamReader("S:accessed.txt")

Clean Up Code - Use A For...Next Loop So Can Fill A Text Box With Sequential Numbers

I've got Visual Studio 2010 and I am looking to clean up my code technique, since I've taught myself and now I'm taking classes.

I'm trying to use a For...Next Loop so that I can fill a text box with sequential numbers. For some reason, all I can get in the text box is the last number and I feel that at this point I'm probably overthinking it...

All I want is on the button push the text box shows:

Using 'magic Numbers' In Code Is Not Good Practice And Makes Maintenance Difficult

Feb 26, 2012

"First of all please TURN OPTION STRICT ON.I make no apology for the capitals - I consider it that important.When you do you will see that you are still using HorizontalAlignment instead of ContentAlignment.VB is converting from one to the other for you.Although that works fine here there are many cases when it will not be what you intended and can cause some very hard to find bugs.Under Tools | Options | Projects and Solutions | VB Defaults Set: Option Strict ON, Option Explicit ON, Option Infer OFF".I did do this but it showed no errors, so I placed 'Option Strict On' at the start of the code, it then showed HorizontalAlignment with the squiggly line. I did edit my code to show this but I think you must have read it before I did. All other suggestions I will note and from now try to implement.Using "magic numbers" in the code is not good practice and makes maintenance difficult.Declare all such numbers at the top and use the names in the code.Is this what you mean? Const SpinTime As Integer = 500

Now when ever I refer in code to SpinTime it will always be 500..Change the NumberOfBoxes to 10 and run the app.In mine, to change boxes to 10 I needed to alter the code in 5 places, in yours 1 place! Talk about proof of the pudding etc.Now to my question, in the program when the start button is clicked and the five random numbers are displayed I have to stop and restart the program to generate five more. So I thought I would create another button 'Reset' this I did and all worked but it seemed a waste so I then just kept the start button in place and changed the text to Reset eg [code] This is fine the one thing I can't figure is how to replace the five numbers that were removed so that it is picking 5 from 500 every time. Now I'm at the end of all this writing I have it! just comment out the line 'Numbers.Remove(Number).

"" & vbLf & "10.0.110.37" this is what I see when clicking on Edit Value in Quickwatch

Truncate The Beginning Of A Log File In .NET?

Feb 24, 2010

I have an VB.NET app that writes the status to a log file in text format. Over time, the file is getting large and I wanted to know if there is an efficient way to truncate the beginning of the file.

To make things easier, I am looking to specify a file size (say 2-3 mb) and I am writing the log using a StreamWriter:

Using strm As New IO.StreamWriter(filelocation.log, True)
strm.WriteLine("msg to write")
strm.Close()
End Using

I thought about using the strm.BaseStream.Length to determine how much of the file to cut off, but by using the .SetLength it would cut from the end - not the desired result.

Removing Part Of A String At Beginning?

Jun 25, 2010

program makes strings from webbrowser documenttext.For example

String1 = "<span class""long-title"" title"" Informations here"

Im trying to remove all text before "Informations here" this is what i currently have.

dim mychar as char () = {"<"c, "s"c, "p"c, "a"c, '....thatandlike20moretill.... "e"c, """"c}
string1 = string1.TrimStart(mychar)

(Note that each letter or symbol inbetween the quotations is a part of the string (span = "s" "p"...)Now this works. Not all the time though and its a pain in the .. having to do "letter"c, all the time.. (I got over 10 strings lol) Im wondering if theres a way easier method to remove part of string from the beginning, maybe like still a certen part of the length..
