View 4 RepliesI am trying to have a visual indicator of battery life from data I receive over the networkMy issue right now is trying to find a way to have a progress bar that is smooth and looks like a battery. Additional to this, I want this to stand vertically.
View 1 RepliesCurrently, I've encountered a problem where I do not how I can store the variable of my battery level in a text file. I tried .xml and .txt file and it returns me text which can't be read.The code related:
vb.net
[code]Dim psBattery As PowerStatus = SystemInformation.PowerStatus
Dim perFull As Single = psBattery.BatteryLifePercent
[code]....
The place where I do not know what to insert is the "Insert Battery Percentage Here" part so I guess that's the problem.For your info, if you were to use a MsgBox to display, the code which displays that would be <MsgBox("Total battery power remaining: " & perFull * 100 & "%")>
I came across a problem in my program it takes too long to calculate the values needed (about 10 sec) .But thats not the problem you don't know when the program is working or not, as it just locks up until its finshed and I view that as a problem.
I need to be able to show the progress of this .I looked at using background Workers but I get exception "Object reference not set to an instance" I believe this is because the background worker cannot write values or something ,As it works will a normal handler.

how can i implement a progress bar in a program that copies files from one place to another
View 5 RepliesIm having some trouble with my progress bars in VB.Net. I am currently making a 2d game for a college assignment. The problem is i have one for health and one for reloading the reload bar works fine but when i try to code the health bar i think it conflicts with the other Progress bar [Code]
View 3 RepliesIve been trying to work with looping code and get messeges like this.
[Code]...
But that is not important this moment... How would I set a code too use the progress bar? So As it loops at a certain rate {Lets say 1000 (1 sec)} It would show the progress. Currently using it to 1 - 50. (Note: The rate is not important as I know how to set that) EDITEDITEDIT: Thanks for the info so far, But regarding my other thread about hotkeys that I marked "Resolved"

I had some trouble a while back with my progress bars exceeding their maximum sizes. I though I had fixed the problem but obviously I was wrong every time the maximum size is exeeded the application enteres debugging mode .... this is really frustrating as the progress bars are a major factor in the game...
What I have is one progress bar which is linked to a clock the clock which ticks up to 1:30 and the game then ends. I also have another progress bar showing the health of the shooter.
I have a series of collision codes set up which are linked to these progress bars, that add to them and take from them.
'Heath pick up collision code...
If (HPU.Top + HPU.Height >= Shooter.Top) And (HPU.Top <= Shooter.Top + Shooter.Height) And (HPU.Left + HPU.Width >= Shooter.Left) And (HPU.Left <= Shooter.Left + Shooter.Width) And HPU.Visible = True Then
[Code]....
I have tried re-routing the overload so that if it cannot add no more to the progress bars it adds nothing to them.
This is what I want, I have 12 progress bars and I want to run a background task to ping IPs and if it can ping them it starts a timer is this imposable to do?

View 4 RepliesTrying to find a code to display ' BatteryLifePercent' by itself on the screen of a gps unit running Windows CE Core 5.0. I have absolutely no experience in programming. Just piecing together things I find and slowly learning to make a working program. So if this is possible, could someone post a code for it? Ideally I'd want just the percentage showing on the main page with ability to size font and position somewhere on the screen. [Code]
View 4 RepliesI'm currently starting a new job in which I will be working on some coding in the future and need some advice on some good places to start so I can learn this correctly. Essentially we need to bring VB4 code over to the new VB.net language and I will be tasked with this. The project consists of a large battery of tests for psychiatric patients consisting of mostly multiple choice questions presented one at a time - since VB4 isn't very compatible, I think I will create a new battery from scratch while using the old code as a reference point.
I started creating the code this weekend for fun and am really enjoying it. However, a huge problem has been the abandonment of control arrays in the new language... by the time I got to creating my first questionnaire I'm stumped and can't follow the old code. Clearly I'm not ready to tackle such a large project with no experience and need to start from scratch; who would have thought .
The reason why I'm here is not to ask you to help me with my work. What I'm wondering is if any of you have any cool advice of great places to start learning the language (books, websites, etc). The amount of literature is very overwhelming so I thought I would ask some people with experience for tips. If any of you have stumbled across learning material with emphasis on coding that would be useful in the design of questionnaires or multiple choice exams, it would be particularly useful.
So far my starting place is Visual Basic 2010 Step by Step with Michael Halvorson, it seems good at a glance in the sense that it couples theory with practice but I'm already sure I'll need a little more.
I'm trying to make a little app that displays the battery life of a notebook, and also whether it is charging or not.I've got it displaying the battery percentage and if it is running via the cable or battery alone.My problem is that I have a timer constantly ticking to grab the latest information as to whether it is still chraging, what the battery % is like, however for some reason when it first runs it get's the info but then that's it, it won't refresh the info in real time. I'm confused because the battery can deplete but the program only displays what info it got when it was first ran but if I unplug the power cord or plug it back in it refreshes that info straight away. My code is:
Public Class Form1
Dim psBattery As PowerStatus = SystemInformation.PowerStatus
Dim perFull As Single = psBattery.BatteryLifePercent
Dim GraphicPercent As VariantType
[code]....
The bit I've highlighted in red in my code won't work either, basically I've shaped the two labels to look like a crude battery shape and label2's function is to represent the nobly bit at the top of the battery and I wan't that to change to Lime when the battery is 100%.why it won't refresh the graphical output to the screen?
Sub Main()
Dim totalmoneyspent, cost, intbars, intcoupons, barspercoup, coupused, coupleft, coupleftfrmint, addcoup, newcoup, addbars, remaincoup, totalbars As Double
Dim chocobarcounter, couponcounter As Integer
[CODE]...
i just added scroll bars to my windows design application but the funny thing is i have no idea of how to assign code to them. ps: the bars are vertical and horizontal.

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to make a menu based off of an asp.net sitemap. How do you nest the sitemap nodes so that they all appear on the same level. Here is what I have:
<siteMap xmlns="[URL]" >
<siteMapNode>
<siteMapNode url="~/Default.aspx" title="Home" description="link to Home" />
<siteMapNode url="~/about.aspx" title="About" description="abot" />
</siteMapNode></siteMap>
Here is what the code for the Menu control looks like:
<asp:Menu ID="Menu1" runat="server" BackColor="#E3EAEB"
DataSourceID="SiteMapDataSource1"
</asp:Menu>
They both appear as 2nd tier elements underneath an arrow.
The problem: A dialog's FormClosing() event is raised if it's a child, ie it's Owner property is set to the parent form, but NOT if it's a child-of-a-child. So closing the main form does not call the closing event on any grandchildren dialogs.
The Details: A dialog prompts to "Save Changes?", with YesNoCancel buttons, in the FormClosing() event. Clicking Cancel keeps the dialog open, ie cancel closing.
Private Sub Dialog_FormClosing(...) Handles Me.FormClosing
If MessageBox.Show("Save Changes?", YesNoCancel) = No Then
e.Cancel = True
[Code].....
Then the FormClosing() event on the child does not raise, if the top-most parent is closed.
Is this a know design limitation in the framework? Is there anything I should consider before I start hacking a nasty solution for this?
I'm looking for some code that will reload a form, so its like a Restart Level button which when clicked will reset the form to its original look.

Alas, they are not.
