If DDL Statement Fails Whole Transaction Is Rolled Back Sql Server?
Mar 24, 2009
I have a series of DML and DDL(Drop View only) statements that I need to execute under single transaction from VB.net app. I m using commandObj, and kept above all I kept beginTransaction statement. Everything is working fine expect when error is returned by Drop statement. If Drop statement returns error then whole transaction is rolledback. I do not want tthis. I want to continue even if Drop fails keeping the other DML statements that were executed before Drop.
I'm using an Entity Framework context, and sometimes would like to create a transaction so that the client can do multiple changes and then commit/rollback them all together.However, if many changes were made, and SaveChanges() was called multiple times, after which a rollback is called, entities that were commited already, will remain the way they were commited, and would not roll back.Here's how my transaction-relative functions look like:
Public Sub BeginTransaction() Dim context = HttpContext.Current.GetObjectContext() If Not context.Connection.State = ConnectionState.Open Then context.Connection.Open() End If
[Code]...
Not only does the test fail, but it also leave the ObjectContext in an unstable mode, because it still has invalid changes in it.
I have one multi-row INSERT statement (300 or so sets of values) that I would like to commit to the MySQL database in an all-or-nothing fashion. insert into table VALUES
(1, 2, 3), (4, 5, 6), (7, 8, 9);
In some cases, a set of values in the command will not meet the criteria of the table (duplicate key, for example). When that happens I do not want any of the previous sets added to the database. I've implemented this with the following code, however, my rollback command doesn't appear to be making a difference. I've used this documentation: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/es/connector-net-examples-mysqltransaction.html
Dim transaction As MySqlTransaction = sqlConnection.BeginTransaction() sqlCommand = New MySqlCommand(insertStr, sqlConnection, transaction) Try
[code]....
I get the DUPLICATE KEY exception thrown, no Rollback Exception thrown, and every set of values up to duplicate key committed to the database.
I'm building a dynamic query in my ASP.NET MVC project by the following: [code]Where basically the strWhere is a string that I build up a dynamic filter depending on what the user selects to search on.This works great until I need to add a date comparison to the date clause.[code]Which will end up as:"SELECT VALUE userInfos FROM MyDBEntities.UserInformations AS userInfos Where userInfos.BirthDate <= 10/09/1992"..But when i try to execute the query with the ToList whenever a date is in the where string i get the following error:The argument types 'Edm.DateTime' and 'Edm.Int32' are incompatible for this operation. Near WHERE predicate, line 1, column 103.
Office 2010; Windows7; Visual Studio Basic 2008 (VB.Net)
[Code]...
The following strSQL string is not working as expected when run in VB.Net Interop to Access: (NOTE: The line-feeds " _" are used below are for reading only - are not in actual code line)
I get this error at the Commit of a transaction in a desktop application:
This OleDbTransaction has completed; it is no longer usable.
Other posts I have seen with similar error suggests this can occur if it takes a long time, or contains large amounts of data. This is not the case here.Logging tells me it takes 140 ms from Begin to Commit and about 10 commands executed inside the transaction.It is using an Oracle database.This class is a simplified version of my database class:
Class MyDatabase Private mConnection AS OleDbConnection Private mTransaction AS OleDbTransaction
[code]....
Is it not allowed to run a select inside a transaction like this? Or can it be done by running the transaction in a specific isolation level (I see that the BeginTransaction method has an optional parameter for doing this) ? ..Or some other sollution..? In my case, it was not a problem to move the select to run before the transaction started, but what if you need to run selects that must run inside the transaction?
I've seen plenty of examples of transactions in the actual store procedure's SQL. But I'm wanting to do the transaction and keep track of it in code. I tried this but it says that my insertcommand's transaction object is null. How can I fix this?
vb Dim conn As SqlConnection = DBConnections.SQLServerConnection conn.Open() Dim params(1) As SqlParameter
After inserting into masterTable it returns an ID. With that ID I want to enter more than one row into a transaction table.
I am using two separate procedures. The problem is, after inserting the record into master, and while inserting into the transaction table, if any interruption occurs I want to abort the corresponding insert of the master table.
I am currently using the AsyncFileUpload in my VB.NET web app. Locally it works perfectly, however on the server it fails to upload a small file (<9k). I can't even seem to debug this as in JavaScript handlers I have no idea as to how to get the error reason.
function uploadError(sender,args) { $get("<%=LabelErr.ClientID%>").innerHTML = "Unable to Upload file for the following reason: ", "<span style='color:red;'>" + args.get_errorMessage() + "</span>";
Error : Execute requires the command to have a transaction object when the connection assigned to the command is in a pending local transaction. The transaction property of the command has not been initialized..
This one causes the error: Dim oOperation As COperationOutputTypeBS oOperation = COperationOutputTypeBS.GetOperationOutputType(txtOperationCode.Text)
I have a client/server application set up that the client sends a word file to the server and then the server converts that word file to a .TIF and sends the image back.The stuff I have now works.Say if I sent the size of the file and the actual file byte() to the server back to back, would the NetworkStream contain both back to back? This what I though would happen. So I implemented a kind of 'turn' based interaction during the duration of the conversion process.
I have a function that checks for wich dice have been rolled and scores them up in the correct boxes, now i want to be able to check the combined scores to see if they equal upto a full house. [code] and then listing every other possible combination, would there be a simpler way of doing it?
I've came across a little problem with my tcp / ip server. My client can connect to it with 127.0.0.1 ( localhost ), and 192.168.0.X, but every remote connection fails to connect.
Here's the connection rituals: Server listener = New System.Net.Sockets.TcpListener(System.Net.IPAddress.Any, Port) listener.Start() listenThread = New System.Threading.Thread(AddressOf doListen) listenThread.IsBackground = True listenThread.Start()
I am currently having a problem in my SQL Statement . I am creating a back and next button and about the Next Button it works just fine. But in previous button its kinda ok...but the problem it goes at the first row not the previous of the selected row.
Here is my SQL STATEMENT... "SELECT t1.* FROM (SELECT RecordID FROM tbl_assessment WHERE StudentNo LIKE '%" & txtstudentno.Text & "%')t2 CROSS APPLY (SELECT TOP 1 * FROM tbl_assessment WHERE RecordID < t2.RecordID ORDER BY RecordID ASC) t1"
I am trying to save a new object to the database using petapoco.I have an object that uses a Guid for the primary key.Here is an example of the objects primary key property.
<PetaPoco.Column()> _ Public ReadOnly Property Primkey() As Guid Implements IStandardDocument.Primkey Get
The sql that is generated is an update with a primkey of 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 instead of an insert. So new records are never inserted.If I have an existing object with a valid guid the update and delete all work correctly.
How can I kill the excel.exe process in SSIS during the data flow task when it fails? There could be multiple instances of Excel.exe running from other packages that are perfectly valid so I don't want to loop through all instances killing them.My problem is that during the data flow task the process will sometimes fail due to a sheet that is named incorrectly or missing columns. This keeps an instance of excel.exe running which is now an orphan task eating up resources so it needs to be killed.At the same time there are other SSIS packages running that are accessing their own excel.exe process and aren't having any issues. So how can I kill the orphan excel.exe process without impacting the other excel.exe process?
I have an application which connects to a database, retrieves a username from a user's table and matches it against the username retrieved with System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent.Name.On my localhost, everything works fine. The database exists on the development server but the application lies on my localhost. All of my authorization and authentication techniques are running smoothly.However, when I publish my application to the development server, I'm faced with the following error.Cannot open database requested in login 'databaseName'. Login fails.Login failed for user 'DevelopmentServerNameASPNET'.
I have a routine that has an if else statement at the else part it calls another routine. Within that routine it has a msgbox script. At the part that is actually is suppose to show the msgbox it goes back to the previous subroutine at the else statement and runs again but this time it displays. I have never seen this before.
THe code is posted below.
1 Else 2 Me.lblTurnsLeft.Text = Me.lblTurnsLeft.Text - 1 3 If Me.lbltimer.Text = "0" Then
I have created a database in SQL Server 2008 Express Edition. Can I write a program in VB.net express to take a daily backup at a specified time? What code do I need to write?
I have a project now where I will have a large chunk of CSV text, like 60 lines or more, and need to pass that from the client to the server. I know it would be weird with GET, but how would I store the multiline text so that I could later split it up, etc at my application?
I have an ASP application with Sql Server 2000 database. The application has a login page. It was working fine. But from past few days, some times login fails and some time it works. I looked into the procedure and ASP page but could not find any issue.
I need blog software for IIS7 and a SQL Server 2008 backend. I don't know if this is required, but the application (website) I'm hosting is in asp.net (vb.net). I checked out das blog, and graffiticms and they're very old.
this is the first time i am calling a stored procedure via vb.net and i would like to make sure i have everything correct before i execute it. This is my code:
[Code]...
The stored procedure returns 6 colums worth of data and i would like to add that data to a listview. I'm not sure i have the correct sytax for doing that but this is what i used in my previous sql code (running a query with, not a stored procedure). Also, i'm not sure how to go about getting data for the @xxx names above from a textbox? How do i pass the values into the @xxx names from the users textbox? The MS SQL mangement studio code is this for the the stored procedure:
