Package A Web User Control (.ascx) In A DLL For Use In Other Applications?
Jul 25, 2010
I have developed a paging control that I would like to use in a variety of applications, both C# and VB.NET.I'd like to package the entire thing, markup and all, into a DLL which I can add as a reference from my other applications' bin folders. If this is not possible, or is a very bad idea, what is the recommended method for deploying a web user control amongst multiple applications?(I like how easy it is to utilize Ajax Toolkit controls from a single DLL, although I'm not sure if those are custom controls or web user controls)
I use the same nemespace in both user controls. I create a class in one of them and I want to be able to call it from another class but it is not visible. It is public.I specify full namespace and can not see it. How do I do that?
I have an ASP.NET page (WebForm) on which I set the content of a central DIV by dynamically loading one of five user controls during Page_Load, dependant on the stage of the application.
One of the user controls contains radio buttons and a text box together with a submit button. What I want to do is process that information when the form is posted using the submit button.
I could do this with an AJAX call using jQuery, but I don't really want to do that, so I'm trying to access the form data on postback, but on page load following the postback the data is not present in the Request.Form object.
Looking at what I need to do it seems pretty simple and I'm sure is once you've got your head around it, but I can't find out how to carry this out. Some of the things I have read refer to event bubbling, but that doesn't make too much sense in this scenario.
EDIT: To clarify, I want to post the page back to itself to capture the values from the form elements via the Request object, store them in the database, and then display a confirmation message (or something else) on postback, and not re-display the same control again. So I won't be loading the same user control again.
I'm trying to find a label on an aspx page from a user control (ascx) on said aspx page. Obviously Page.FindControl("lablel1") is not working. Do I need to add in ClientID somewhere?
I'm finding a dropdown in an ascxcontrol on my aspx in the following way.
Dim cp As ContentPlaceHolder = DirectCast(Page.Form.FindControl("ContentPlaceHolder1"), ContentPlaceHolder) Dim ascx As UserControl = DirectCast(cp.FindControl("drpType"), UserControl) Dim drpType As DropDownList = DirectCast(ascx.FindControl("drpType"), DropDownList)
Is there a faster way without having to acces all the elements on the page?
I'm writing a Repeater Control in an ascx file which renders some info as a row that comes from a complex search. In an aspx file I have the query to retrieve a DataView that gives me the XML string with the info needed to feed the Repeater. The problem is that I don't know how can I pass the XML string (or the DataView or DataSet) from the aspx to the ascx file so as I can render the info.
If I set a .ascx control's visible attribute to true, what event is called? What method can I create in that control's codebehind to act on this event?
I have a UserControl that has a simple repeater inside. It has a property called data which when passed into the control populates the repeater using the standard databinding.
On a page I have a placeholder.
I have a loop which does the following
Dim qDetail As New UserControls_ReportDataTable qDetail = DirectCast(LoadControl("~/UserControls/ReportDataTable.ascx"), UserControls_ReportDataTable)
I have a user control that I'm adding to a webpage dynamically. The ascx has a couple of controls that I want to have access to at runtime. I can access the ascx itself, but none of the controls on the ascx are available. I have tried adding a simple public variable and also tried adding a public property to the ascx, but I am unable to get access to either of them at design time (compile errors). I added the following to the code-behind of the ascx control:
Public Property areaCode() As String Get Return iebEmpPhoneAreacode.Text End Get
I have written a web usercontrol (ascx). Inside, there is a Panel that I want to show/hide on click of a hyperlink inside the usercontrol. Normally, this is easy just by doing something like this (the onclick attribute is added to the hyperlink on prerender):
I am trying to run the application created in the example at [URL] The code errors at the line dtsDataReader = dtsCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.Default) the error is A requested parameter does not exist in the package. I have checked everything that i can think of in the package Also when I try to run the package using the dtexecui utility I two errors "Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PRODUCTLEVELTOLOW.
I am wanting to use an application to package all my files together into a setup package. I have tried InstallShield 2011, but when i click on Visual Basic .net wizard, it tells me I do not have Visual Studio.NET installed on my system. I am currently using VB2010 Express How can I fix this... or is there a better application available for packaging?
I have an application going here Form1 has a panel on it named TargetPnl. I need my TargetPnl to display my user control named Vviewer when I click my SearchBtn and also need it to disappear when I click another button.
I have been working on an activeX control which works on serial port communication. Now I have completed the project and created its setup.exe using Visual studio 6 -> Tools -> Package and Deployment Wizard. Then I installed the control in another PC and in a new project included the control using project -> components. But when I click on the control in the toolbox and then include on the form it gives the following error : delete current link ? and on clicking OK, nothing happens. I tried searching a lot on google but didnt find anything. Another problem is that I have created a string array as a global array which can be accessed by all the methods.I am able to include the same activex control in my own pc when I have created the project. Here it works fine, I am able to access all the methods that I coded in the control, but the String array mentioned above can be accessed in other project. I tried writing Public before the array declaration but it give me the compile error : "Constants. fixed length strings, arrays, user defined types and Declare statements not allowed as Public members of object module." [code]
how can i call a VB function - deleteevent() in usercontrol.ascx.vb from a javascript function in clickhandler(e) in usercontrol.ascx. The call should cause a postback because I need the usercontrol to display the changes.I am currently trying to do it by using a linkbutton with style display:none, and calling its click event from the javascript function. But i dunno how to call the click event.
i need an app that can download a table from the db, and when he click a button, i want to update the db with his "offline copy".
Problem is When i use DataAdapter.Update, it doesn't update all the rows. Now this is a problem, because even if his "offline copy" thinks that row 1 is "unedited", some other user may have edited row 1. so regardless of row state, i need to so called "replace" the entire "offline copy" with the database when the user clicks the button in a "last click overrides all" situation
I have an aspx page that has two different user controls. I want to find user control A and be able to set properties, etc., from user control B.
I was thinking I could do something like this:
Dim CMFilters As Control = Me.Parent.FindControl("CMFilters")
...but that doesnt work to be able to set properties and call methods. I somehow need to get the user control and and declare it as that user control type.
I am running a client-server application and am having problems with privileges (I assume). The application is developed using 2005 Express. The Client is running Win XP Home whilst the server is running Win 2003. When the user on the client has Admin rights on the local machine, everything is OK; however when the user has only User rights, an error occurs: VB will not run.
I have created a vb application connected to MS Database. I have used try..catch statements to trap exceptions and display messages on the error found, but the problem is that these messages are too technical for the end users to understand. Is there a way of retrieving the error number or code of that exceptions thrown so that i can customize the message for the users?
Need to install a font on all user's machines that will use the application I am writing which creates custom documents in Word. It's a barcode font.I've successfully added the font to my solution and set its build action to Embedded Resource and have also successfully written code to check if the font is already installed on the user's system.
how can I control and use already compiled console applications with VB.Net? I would like to be able to pass parameters to the console app, as well as be able to hide and close command prompt widow (as ordinary users would probably get scared/confused from seeing it). Perhaps it is possible to integrate the command application into my VB.Net executable?
I now realize that it is incorrect because the container's InitializeComponent property initializations have not run yet and they must be run prior to Refresh being called.
How (where) can I run Refreash after the container has initialized this user control.[cod]e...

I created a simple VB application in Visual Studio 2010.My computer, which I am using to create the program, is Windows 7 Pro, and SQL Server 2008 is running on a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, which I have full access to.
I want to click a button and have an SSIS package execute.I looked around on the Internet and found examples, but they do not seem to work for me.I try to add a reference, Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS.dll, as a few sites advise, but it is not listed when I go to PROJECT>ADD REFERENCE.
I also type:
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime but all I get is a squiggly green line, which when hovered over states "Namespace or type specified in the Imports 'Microsoft.SqlServer .Dts.Runtime' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found." Below is some code I copied from one of the websites and pasted in my button click event (the path is correct), but a get blue squiggly lines under "Package" and "DTSExecResult":
Dim pkgLocation As String Dim pkg As New Package[code]....
What can I do to make the SSIS package run when I click the button on the Windows application a created?
Ive been trying to replicate a listbox type control that ive seen on applications such as: Limewire, excel, etc where there is a Heading in limewires case lets say name, that you can resize to how ever big you want the colomn name to be (like a splitter) is there a control I can easily add or should I keep on working on buttons and resizing =)
I'm having difficulty figuring out how to run different programs with my VB program. Using Excel and other MS office programs is easy enough since I just add in the relevant COMs, but I can't for the life of me find out how to run other programs. I promise I spent many hours searching before bothering you kind folks here! I'd think this is a common issue so maybe I haven't been searching for the right thing.how to write code that will control and read data from applications.I know you can do "Process.Start" to open any application, and it looks like there are ways to determine the controls available on an open application, but I can't figure out how to do it. Is this possible? Or do I have to import a .dll file for every program I want to control? Or are both possible?
Is there a way to make long items wrap in a .net windows forms application, I have already got LabelWrap set to true, but it doesn't work, I am using Details View Type,
