VS 2008 UI Threading - Move/interact With Both Forms While The Loop Is Running ?

Oct 17, 2009

When it comes to threading. I've managed to adapt one of JMcIllhinney's backgroundworker codebank examples to somewhat suit my needs, but not completely. I have a main form, and a second form that appears while I'm running through a for loop. It informs the user what is currently happening. I set up a backgroundworker that allowed me to continue to use the main form during the for loop, but the other "status" form was completely frozen, and any labels or graphics were shown as white boxes. I am struggling to figure out how to be able to move/interact with both forms while the loop is running.

.net - Get Around Running Visual Studio As Administrator In Windows 7 To Interact With Internet Explorer

Jun 14, 2011

I'm using SHDocVw.InternetExplorerClass to scrape a webpage. It works fine in XP, but when I try to run it in windows 7 I get an error:The interface is unknown. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706B5)

When I run visual studio in administrator mode it works fine, but the published application has to be run in administrator mode too, which isn't acceptable.

Is there any way to get around running the application in administrator mode?

Forms :: Interact With Cmd.exe?

Mar 12, 2010

Have a Windows app that needs to interact with a stand alone program that is accessed using cmd.exe. From Windows app, I can execute cmd.exe but cannot interact with it. Tried SendKeys, but this only sends one key at a time (sometimes more, but inconsistent) with multiple cmd.exe windows opening. Need to be able to send a whole command (string) to only one cmd.exe window.

My question is, how do I get the radio to load one of the genres when clicked? The guide that I followed said that I can add a button to change stations and add this line to the button's code to make it change to that station.

Closing A Windows Forms Applications And Excel.exe Processes Interact (potentially Through The Garbage Collector)?

Mar 2, 2012

I may be the only person still automating excel this way and I am looking at doing it in ways that better handle COM objects and such, but for now I just importMicrosoft.Office.Interop.Excel and go for it. Something that gave me a lot of grief at first was hanging excel.exe processes, but there are tons of resources online for fixing that. At this point I am pretty confident in my abilities to handle it.One thing I did notice and was wondering about is how does closing a windows forms application interact with excel.exe running in the background and likely more specifically the garbage collector. I have written quite a few excel automation projects and noticed that after I run my program .exe and it has completed there is an excel.exe process that hangs on until I close the pop up window from the windows forms application. Why is that happening?

VS 2008 : Making 'main Window' Form Acting As A Container For The Other Forms?

Mar 17, 2009

Am devloping an application with multiple forms, which reside on top of a main form. i.e the main application window. The 'child' forms do not need to be linked in any way as they do not pass information to the parent form, as all the parent form does is act as main window. Now I would like to know what is the correct way for the 'main window' form acting as a container for the other forms? So that all the smaller secondary forms stay focused on top of the main application form, that when the main window is minimized, so these forms should do also etc..

I have read other posts and they mention, leaving all the forms standard i.e. IsMdiContainer = False and then using form.showDialog() to call the secondary forms. This did not work for me as what happens is that as soon as I give focus to the main app form, the secondary form disappears underneath.I tired making the main app form IsMdiContainer = True and when it loads calling:

frmMemberForm.MdiParent = Me

Now this works, because I can click off the form and minimize the app etc and the frmMemberForm doesn't disappear. However if i close the MemberForm and reopen it, it looses this property and once again when it looses focus, it will disappear.

VS 2008 Interact With A Service?

Jul 13, 2011

I have never interacted with Varbiles outside of the projject but now in need of it.I am developing a Windows Service Application that is multi-threaded. There is going to be a set of Global Varibles in the application that contain basic status information such as how many threads are currently running, What clients are currently connected etc.

Now I would like to develop another application as a monitor. This one would be a Windows Forms App and its sole purpose is to display to the user this information so that is can be monitored. Is there an easy way of doing this? If not I don't think I will bother as the Monitor is not essential.

I want to start building my first large program. I want to create scripts on their own and allow them to interact with my main sub. I guess if I need a "plane" in my application, that could become it's own class? If I wanted to calculate "purchases", "money" I could create a DLL? I don't want to have to change things and have to recompile my entire application every time I want to change how something works for example.

VS 2008 - Use An Icon In The System Tray To Let Interact With A Windows Service

Sep 24, 2009

I've seen loads of programs that use an icon in the system tray to let you interact with a windows service that is running on your machine but I am curious as to how this works. As I understand it, unless a service marks itself as 'interactive' then it has no way to communicate with the user's desktop and doing so is discouraged by MS (and even causes an alternate desktop to appear temporarily in Server 2008 in some cases). So I want to try and avoid doing this but I cant think how else I would do it, and even if I marked my service as interactive I'm not too sure how I could actually get it to show a notification icon in the system tray.

I assume I would have to use Windows APIs, unless just using the windows forms NotifyIcon class would work. I considered just having the system tray icon in a totally separate application that just communicates with the service via named pipes or TCP etc but I'm pretty sure this isnt how other programs do it because with most of them if you just kill the process that the service is running in then the icon disappears so it must actually be directly running from the service.

VS 2008 Develop A Web App That Can Interact With Websites And Carry Out Automatic Tasks?

Sep 7, 2009

I'm using Visual Studio 2008 on an XP machine and am trying to develop a web app that can interact with websites and carry out automatic tasks. One problem I have is trying to recreate the web requests for automatic interaction.

For example:I use a webBrowser control to allow me to surf a page manually. Then, once I am at a specific location, I'd like the automatic interaction to take over.Part of the website requires a log-in and exchanges cookie data. When I try to read the cookie info from the webbrowser control to build the subsequent automatic requests, the cookie content is incomplete.Upon further investigation, it appears that the site sets one of the cookies to "http only". This stops the value being visible to the webbrowser control. Is there another control or method I could use to retrieve this info?

Automation Of Internet Forms

Dec 7, 2009

I want to write an app which would automatically fill an internet form with different inputs, depending on its own input. The thing is, I have no idea how the VB-Web interface works. I have seen the inet controller, but the only use of it I've seen is retrieval of the data on the web page. What I actually need is:

a. VB to open a certain web page.
b. VB to choose an option from a drop-down list.
c. The page will change to another page (depending on the choice in b).
d. VB to fill a form consisting of drop-down lists, text boxes etc. After each of the fields is filled, the page refreshes itself.
e. After all fields are filled, VB should click on a link which would open a different part of the form.Follow steps d+e a couple more times, and then submit the form by clicking a certain button.

Forms :: Internet Cafe Management Software

Jan 27, 2011

I am trying to an Internet Cafe Management program, I have created a form with a start button for users to click, it starts the timers, and then a Finish button which clears the timers and brings the start button back up. That is as far as I have gotten.

What I am stuck on, is I want the timers and finish button to be constantly visible on their screen (Never behind any other windows they have open) and I also need to create the server application which when the finish button is pressed it sends the time to the server application and also calculates the price to charge the customer.

I preferably dont want to be given some source code to download and use that, I am wanting to make this as a learning experience for me.

Forms :: Using .net To Post To A Web Form In Internet Explorer?

Sep 28, 2011

I am trying to programmatically post to a textbox on a web form in IE - I have tried sendkeys - but I dont find them reliable or consistent - The code below is perfect - but only seems to work in a webbrowser control. How do I (click a button/select a radiobutton) send 'hello world' to a textbox on a webform in IE? By the way I would be happy to use the webbrowser control (so the code below would work) - but the webpage (which is not the one in the code below) runs locally on my machine (I dont have any control over it) and does not seem to work within a webbrowser control. PS go easy on me - I'm a Newbie/Thick Public Class Form1 Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

Making A Program That Has Two Forms?

Jan 27, 2010

I am making a program in vb.net (visual basic) that has two forms. I have one as a sort of "main" base which will be behind everything. Then I have another additional form which is suppose to go on top of the "main" form. Well I get this to work when I show both of the forms, but I want the smaller (additional) form to be centered onto the main form. If you want an easier sense of it, its a small box in a big box. (all centered and aligned). Does anyone know how to do this?

Forms :: Making A Spell Checker For Richtextbox Control

Apr 22, 2011

i'am having trouble in making a spell checker for vb.net richtextbox control.I have made a form with richtextbox control and a panel control. I have put a listbox control in the panel control and filled with certain words. What iam able to do is whenever i select a word and click a button the panel appears just below the word (using get position from char) and display the choice. What iam not able to do is:

1) Select each word one-by-one whenever i click a button say F1 - I know keypress event but how do i select the words through keypress. I know they are separated by spaces but iam not familiar as to how to take advantage of it. The major problem being that there can be 2-3 words together sometimes colored as red. Eg: What i want is when i press F1 first time "this" is selected, next time "is" is selected and next time "nice car color" is selected. The two things are spaces and red color but i don't get anything from it.

2) Display the panel correctly within the main form's border. Right now when i select the last word of the sentence some part of panel disappears as it hides behind the main form. Eg - only 1/4th appears and rest hides. I can't find a way to limit it from moving when it has reached the main form size. I want to constrain it between top-bottom and left-right border of main form.
