I have notice that when a module is running the screen does not update properly.For example if I change a label to read "Please Wait..." The second half of the label does not display until the program is idle.Can I get the screen to update while its running.
View 2 Repliesi have a screen capture running just as a picturebox on a winform updating with a timer... i have it so it shows my race in a game.... now all is running gr8 on my pc... im now looking to make it viewable to someone else thats connected to my chat server i have made a picturebox on the client form and have the capture code in my server im hosting on my pc...
so my question is how and what is the best/quickest way to do so? maybe memorystream? if so how do i go about that? how do i send a image over memory stream? or is there a better way?
Sometimes when updating the entire screen or moving around controls etc, there is some fairly bad screen flickering.

The problem is, even thouh with this, the CheckStatus function is supposed to be ran every 100ms (timer driven), the text of the button and the color of the panel does not update. If I close the app and run it again, it will be correct, though.
Windows Forms, VB application... Forgive me in advance for this very elementary question but I am overlooking something really simple here. I would like to have a label show the current value of a variable as the for each loop runs.. I created a very simple Button Click event to figure out where its failing. As it is right now the value does not display until after the for each loop finishes running, which it should actually display the counter value each time it runs through... I know this is possible and really simple because I did it years back but for the life of me cant figure out why I am missing the bar as it should constantly update the label to reflect that?Test Sub is as follows:

I have a program written in VB 2010 express under windows xp which does some heavy number crunching combined with serial communication. When it "gets too busy" it does not update the screen anymore (done simply with Textbox.text = "any text") and it does not respond to user input in any text box. Not even to a click on any text box. Is there a way I can get the program to do screen update and respond to user input while it is busy?

I can use VB but when I go to run program, it compiles, links, and executes, but the output screen just shows up for about 1 second. I have tried updating my computer and manually updating VB2005, with no luck.

I have recently started playing with sockets, so now i have set up an instant messaging app. it works like it's supposed to however, theres a slight problem. short of arranging for both parties to come online via email or something there's no way for the other person to know that someones waiting for them. So i'm basically looking for a way to send a pop-up message to tell the other dude to get his ass online,is there a way to display a message on a target pc's screen without a client application running and actively listening for an incoming command?

The program was written in VB, but I don't know which version. It was written around 1994. I need to update it to VB.NET 2008. I would normally just observe how it works and rewrite it, but in this case, there are special codes that are passed to and from the device it is communicating with, along with specific formats of data. All of this would be very difficult to decode using a scope or by capturing bytes. I believe I'd have much better luck looking at the source code. I have the source code, or so it is labeled. I have a number of files ending in .frm, .bas, .vbw and .mak. I've tried opening these in VB.NET, but all I get are numbers. MS Word just shows a few symbols. Are these source code extensions from early VB?

BTW this issue occurs in any MS office program when the VB.Net (or even VBA) is processing information.Example: In Excel, a worksheet is displayed on the screen. I start either, a VB.Net or VBA procedure and within 30 seconds the Excel worksheet (previously displayed) blanks out. In both VB.Net and VBA,ScreenUpdating = False. My expectation is that the previously displayed screen would stay static as if I left my desk to get a cup of coffee; came back and the same ole Excel worksheet was still there?Of course, setting VBA Screen Updating = False accomplishes two goals: 1) speeds up processing and 2) saves the user from seeing unnecessary "garbage-processing" steps.Why does VBA or VB.Net ScreenUpdating = False not freeze the screen at the time of its invoking?
View 11 RepliesI have a VS 2005 VB.NET Windows forms application that is exhibiting very strange behavior. I can add controls to any of my forms and see them at design time, however when I run the application, it resorts to "old" copies of the forms without the new modifications. Also, the application does not seem to be firiing the correct events - when I put a break on the Form_Load event of my main form - it never fires the event when the application runs. If I change the project settings to start with a new form - it does not recognize the change. Something strange is going on and I am quite frsutrated trying to figure it out.

View 1 RepliesI am having issues understanding why it is that a text box that has been bound to a dataset correctly updates that dataset when the text in the box is manually changed i.e. by changing it using the keyboard but the dataset does not recognise the change when I change it in code.Am I missing something obvious? The text is changed in code when the user clicks on a command button that copies the text from another textbox on the form to this textbox.

As i mentioned, manually it works fine but when I use the comman button to change the text it does not recognise that any changes have occured.
Is it possible to have code running in the background and still be able to use other parts of the program (i.e. firing other events).For example I have a instant messaging chat in my program and when the user has a new message then the display flashes from green to red as seen below
