VS 2010 - Results Coming Out Numbers Reversed

Feb 28, 2012

I've created a program that allows a user to input numbers and then outputs the highest and lowest number when the user is done (the user indicates this by using a sentinel value of -99). My only problem is that it keeps putting out the numbers reversed (largest as smallest and vice versa).

The code is below.
Module Module1
Sub Main()
'Declare Variables
Dim number, smallestNumber, largestNumber As Integer
'Get numbers from user
[Code] .....

Is it a no-no to have a module within a module like I do there? So far there is no mention of such in the book but I can't find an example of it happening yet either? The instructor wants modules to perform the input and return of information and the only way I could figure out it doing both of those things (rather than using the main module for user input) was to call the module that figures hi/lo within the module that asks for the numbers. I'm really unsure on this part.

Program To Randomly Select Numbers For A Bingo Caller - Prevent Reversed Numbers Being Selected

Mar 6, 2011

I have just about completed a .NET project to write a program to randomly select numbers for a Bingo caller. Over the last month or so Ive learned a lot about .NET but heres something that I consider to be odd and maybe one of you guys can offer an opinion.

One of the features of calling Bingo in a small local club is that callers often use little sayings to accompany certain numbers, I expect youve all heard of (say) All the sixes, clickety click for 66 or 5 and 9 the Brighton line for 59 etc. My little program gives an option to incorporate these with a prompt for the caller that can be edited outside of the program. One of these conventional sayings is used when a number is reversed 12 followed by 21 or 45 followed by 54 for example, when the caller might call (say) 1 and 2, one dozen, number 12 And the other way round 2 and 1, twenty one.

So, I programmed in a bit of code to detect this and to over-ride whatever might otherwise have been the quote with And the other way round and set about testing it. Ive been through literally dozens of full 90 calls watching for the occurrence of a reversed number, spent a few hours doing it, and not once has it occurred which is to say the least, unusual.

So, Im wondering about the Rand Function, could it be that it isnt possible for a reversed number to be selected? Just so you know, I randomly pre-select the order of all 90 numbers, I fill each of the 90 elements of an array with a random number first checking that the number selected hasnt already been stored, if it has, I just get the next random number (and check that too of course), but I cant see how that could prevent reversed numbers being selected, especially in light of the fact that frequently it's not the 'next' number that's used.

VS 2010 - How To Replace Html Entity Code Numbers In Source Results

how to replace the html code numbers with the correct ones? i would show you example of html output, but vbforum automatically converts the characters so no point. i wish the replace all the & #40; (without the space) and so on with their correct replacement eg, ( in this case. also would like a short way to do this as i will be using this multiple times. so basically i would like the source to be exactly as it would if you viewed source in firefox browser, not with all the special chars unformatted like visual studio does.

Random Numbers And Separating The Results?

Jul 30, 2009

What I am trying to figure out is a simple dice rolling program (I'm assuming it's simple anyway) that lets the user specify how many dice they want to roll and then after they click the roll button it separates the dice by what was rolled so they can see how many 1's was rolled, or how many 2's were rolled, so on and so forth for 6 sided dice.

Say the user wants to roll 6 dice, when the user clicks the roll button the results are 4,3,3,5,1,6. Obviously meaning they rolled two 4's two 3's one 5 and one 6. Now from that result I want to have separate labels that show how many of each number was rolled, so it would look something like this on the form (Except it would be horizontal instead of vertical, but it doesn't work on the forums)

1's: 1
2's: 0
3's: 2
4's: 1
5's: 1
6's: 1

That's just a basic example, of course if the user added more dice there would possibly be up to say 7 4's and 10 5's or whatever. There isn't really a limit to the results you can get.Now I found some code to do let the user specify how many dice to roll and have it roll that amount of dice, but I don't know how to separate the results like I want them above. Right now it just displays the results all in one line on a label.Here is the code that I am using

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim diceCount As Integer = TextBox1.Text
If diceCount = 0 Then MessageBox.Show("Please insert number of dice needed")[code]....

It works perfectly but how would I go about separating the results like how I was explaining? I'm sorta guessing I would use case statements or something of the sort but I'm not sure how to check the results of dices to be able to separate it.

Indicating Reversed Contents Of Array

Mar 14, 2011

In Mastering VB2010 on arrays, a command is show indicating the reversed contents of an array can be assigned to another array.
ReversedArray = System.Array.Reverse(ArrayName)

I can't get this to work and part of the problem is how to set up (dim) the ReversedArray. When I enter this I get a squiggly line under the right side of the equation and an error message saying no data is produced by the expression.

I get the same error with a copy command:
CopiedName = System.Array.Copy(Name, CopiedName, 10)
How do I set up working code to reverse or copy the contents of an array?

SSN Checking Entered Based On Reversed Range

Jan 13, 2009

I have a need to verify SSN's that are entered based on a reserved range (these are used for advertising and will never become valid). The input is from a masked text box formatted as 000-00-0000. I may be wrong, but I figured the most logical method would be to remove the hyphens and convert the string to an integer, then compare the starting point and end point of the range.

'Valid SSNs
'Currently, a valid SSN cannot have an area number between 734 and 749, or above 772, the highest area number which the Social Security Administration has allocated. This should not be confused with Tax Identification Numbers which include additional area numbers.

VS 2008 Reversed File Format (Java)

Jun 27, 2011

I discovered that java uses a reversed way of storing data. For example, the integer value 2 has the following byte values:

In "Windows" format:
[2] [0] [0] [0]
In "Java" format:
[0] [0] [0] [2]

The binary readers of both languages seem to use the same different format. Now my question: What is the easiest way to read binary values (Integer, Single, etc.) in VB .NET from a java formatted file? I already made functions like these:

This is the code i'm using but i'm not getting the correct result when results are actually returned. For instance, if the result of count is 1, i want "seq" to equal 1 and total (which represents the sequence # assigned to the next record which is entered with the same plan and date) would therefore be 2 which is the result of seq + 1 (i.e. 1 + 1)

VS 2010 Results Displayed After Checkbox + Date Range Entered?

Jun 3, 2012

I am trying to make a Windows Form in VS 2010 that is used to determine whether someone is entitled to a prize/medal/award whatever you want to call it. So basically if someone clicks on a check box to say they attended an event and they enter a date range between saying they attended the event between 01/01/2010 - 01/02/2010 and the requirement for the award is that they attended the event for more than 20 days then because the statement is true I would want a box to pop up and say person is entitled to receive a particular award. There are multiple awards available based on different conditions so to be eligible for so the result would be dependent upon which boxes and date ranges are selected.So For Award1 the logical argument is something along the lines of

IF Event1CheckBox = Checked AND
Attendance => 20
Result = Entitled to Receive Award1 Else = Not Entitled To Receive Award1

VB 2010 - Assignment - Text File - List All Of The Data From Results.txt In The Listbox

I'm studying VB 2010 at uni and struggling with this assignment, I'm stressing now with one week to go before its time to hand it in and still not knowing how to do it (even though i've read the whole textbook!)

I have copied the instructions and the files I have been given.

1 List all of the data from Teams.txt in a Listbox. Include suitable headings.

2 List all of the data from Results.txt in the Listbox (use the same Listbox as in 1 above). Include suitable headings. Note that you cannot assume that the file contains only results for the first 3 weeks of the season. Your program should be able to process a results file with more or fewer results.

3 List all of the data from Results.txt in the Listbox. However, in this case the actual team names should be output (your program will need to get this data from Teams.txt. The data should be formatted so that it is aligned correctly. Include suitable headings.

Using Search Server 2010 Express Web Service Results Are Returning .aspx Pages Instead Of Documents?

Feb 23, 2011

I have a Search web reference (from a Search Server 2010 express install) in a vb.net application that is utilizing the QueryService Class to search a production Sharepoint foundation 2010 site.At a previous point in time, we had created a proof of concept on an entirely test system that has since been turfed. From my recollection on this test system when documents were uploaded as a specific site content type (that inherits from document) and metadata was provided, we could search for specific metadata by making managed properties for each, and search results would be returned as documents (with the isdocument flag set to true). Viewing the document then became simple, as we could simply use the filename and path to display the stored file.Now we are developing a production system and we have encountered a new behavior, where these results now are returned as aspx results such as

[URL]

This of course makes it terribly difficult to locate and view the document, we can extract the Title which will then give us the name of the file with no extension, but that hardly helps, as the FileExtension data is aspx, not the documents file extension, so we don't have a full filename. We could display the page returned as a result, but would much prefer the document itself.

I've made a test document library, with just bare bones setup, (not using the site content type, or site columns) and uploaded some documents on the same site, and they are returned in the same fashion, so I don't believe the document library, or content type are the issue.

With a fairly limited understanding of both Sharepoint and Search Server, I don't know if this is a setup issue with the search service itself, with the site configuration, or with the querypacket I am sending. We also have a third party application (Knowledgelake) installed on the server that ties into sharepoint which could have changed configuration somewhere as well?

I don't think the query packet has changed since it was working in the proof of concept, other than the custom data column names. I will provide it here in case there is something glaringly obvious to an external reader.

<QueryPacket xmlns='urn:Microsoft.Search.Query.Document'>"
<Query>

<Format>urn:Microsoft.Search.Response</Format>
